The Missions search and committee, Service from the beginning, wanted someone to offer vision about Radical how Hospitality we could move with greater purpose and focus into the future. After We 6 months, reach in your through. deacon board and executive board have looked over the vision that has been drafted, offered Intentional some input, Spiritual and Transformation voted to move forward with our mission/vision process through having focus Sacrificial groups Care that can for One read Another about the vision and offer clarification and feedback. We do this so that the whole church can have ownership of the mission and vision of our congregation. What we do and how we do what we do moving into the future will be defined by our mission and vision. It will allow us to say yes to some great things, and to say no to other things that are good, but don t clearly fit God s call on our lives together. Before sharing the mission/vision proposal, a little background information on how this all came about. When I began as pastor here, our small groups and our sermons began with theme We are the church. This was not by accident. Our letterhead, our old bulletins, our website all placed the building we meet in front and center. A church isn t a building, it is a people. Our specific spiritual practices that guide our vision, our proposed vision declares that our faith is

Page 2 living and active. Even our mission, which is very much the same, proposes changing the preamble from the language of foundation (a building imagery) to the language of experiencing God (an image of active faith). Also, you will see that the proposed vision offers to have us move forward as an intergenerational community. If approved, we will seek to connect people across generations. We will attempt to value the old and the new, innovative ideas and historic traditions, youth and maturity, and to blend them together into a unique community that reflects God s value for all persons, and his willingness to use all ages for his glory. So, read below. Pray. Discern. Offer your input. And then, get on board as we move forward in our future together. Mission: At First Baptist Church, we exist to experience God through following Christ, becoming like Him, and committing to share God s love. Vision: To reach up, reach out, and reach in as an intergenerational community to share Christ s presence with everyone We reach up through. Passionate Extravagant Generosity We reach out through. Risk-Taking Missions and Service Radical Hospitality We reach in through. Intentional Spiritual Transformation Sacrificial Care for One Another **There will be a Mission/Vision focus group everyone is invited. The first meeting will be September 10 th immediately following worship, (Agape Room). The second meeting will be September 20 th - concurrent with the Wednesday supper. The proceeds will go to L2 for Kids L2 for Kids seeks to provide under privileged children with new clothes for school to help increase their self esteem and well being through the local churches in an effort to show them Christ s love. L2 for Kids has helped 211 children in North Platte and a total of 778 children obtain new clothing in the year 2016! What a great way to share our blessings with others! Financial Report The following are the First Baptist Church s financial figures for July 2017. General Fund $19,245.26 Other Missions/Special Offerings $0 Building Fund $7001.00 Global Missions $96.00 Please continue to prayerfully and generously support the ministry of our Church. Wednesday night suppers will be starting on September 13 th. This is a wonderful ministry and is appreciated by so many people. As always, though, we do need volunteers to cook! A sign-up sheet is in the back of the church for you to fill in your name on the date(s) you are available to do so. If for some reason a volunteer is not available for a certain Wednesday, there will not be a dinner served for that date. This is usually not a problem but it has happened in the past. If you have any questions about this ministry, you can talk with Peggy Conley or Denise Anderson. Thank you again for serving in this area!
