Circular No. SHCS/02/2018 10.08.2018 Dear Parents/Guardians/Students Of all knowledge, the wise and good seek most know themselves, says Shakespeare. One of the greatest and best ways of coming a correct self-awareness and self discovery is listening the opinions, remarks, suggestions and criticisms that come from other persons. Enemies will criticise you discredit you, Friends will point out defects in order help you improve yourselves. If you close these channels of information about yourselves, you are losing a precious chance of knowing and improving yourselves. Many things in your behavior which you are not aware of or have never noticed, others will notice. Sincere and honest friends will point out you your defects and shortcomings. Listen them and learn about yourself. Do not react, oppose or defend yourself against such remarks. Rather, study them, evaluate them and see if what they say is true. If it is true, take it and work on it for your self improvement. If you honestly believe, after sincere and serious consideration, that it is not true, just ignore it, do not react. But always be thankful those who try help you in knowing and bettering yourself. Everyone has inside himself/herself a piece of good news! The good news is that you really don t know how great you can be, what you can accomplish, what your potential is. Without realising our potential for greatness, we get lost in closed-circuit thinking, drowned in our petty world, immersed in our petty quarrels and jealousies. Instead let us awake, arise and aim at the stature we are capable of arriving at. Shakespeare says, To thine own self be true. I must be myself. That is authenticity; that is integrity; that is sincerity. To know who I am, I must pay attention what I enjoy, what I indulge in, when nobody watches me, when I am not under pressure of standards, when I am free from the public eye, when I am all by myself. That is the time the real self beautiful or ugly comes surface without fear, without shame and without mask. Self knowledge is our pathway our God, ourselves and our fellow beings. We come know many things about other persons in our interaction with them. Their observations, remarks, attitudes and approach wards us reveal what they feel about us. That is a valuable key our self knowledge. Dear students, life is precious. It is not meant be wasted. It is worth living, and living meaningfully. That is why time and again ask these questions. What do I want out of life? What do I want make of myself? What contribution do I want make society? How do I want my people remember me? Study your leading desires and tendencies and be an earnest student of yourself.
