The Salvation Story in the Bible Adam and Eve

The Bible is the story about God working in the world to bring salvation to all peoples People can not go to heaven because we all have a problem. Sin is what separates us from God

So God worked to make the salvation story A way for people to have their sins forgiven and go to heaven forever God wants to save people from going to Hell God invites you to go to Heaven

I. Satan Tempts Adam and Eve to Sin Vss. 1-5

The Garden of Eden was a place on earth made by God for the 1st couple, Adam and Eve. It was a beautiful place, a perfect place that provided all the food they needed

Adam and Eve were to live in this garden forever, God gave them one command, don t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from that tree, you will die

Then Satan entered the garden and possessed the snake Satan talked to Eve, and Adam was there Satan 1st of all confused Eve Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?

God did say that if you eat of it you will diespiritually, physically Then the big lie came from Satan, you will not surely die Then the ½ truth, your eyes will be opened

Then another lie, you will be like God, that isn t true They wouldn t be like God, their relationship with God was broken Then another ½ truth knowing good from evil They would know good and evil, but not in a way that they wanted to know it.

Satan twisted the words of God and said that God was a liar Satan knew that if he could get Adam and Eve to disobey God, all people after them, all the human race would disobey God, we call it sin

II. The Bad Decision in the Garden Vs. 6

Would they trust God or would they trust Satan? Eve looked at the fruit and it looked good How could something so good be so bad? That s what many people today say about sin,

They doubted that God s Word was true They didn t trust God They trusted the words of a deceptive creature, Satan

III. The Effects of the Garden Decision Vss. 7-15

Innocence was gone, they realized they were naked, they tried to cover themselves I think it really was a deeper problem They realized that they sinned and they were trying to cover their sin. But it didn t work

They hid from God They knew they disobeyed God and they knew God knew. And they thought that by hiding that they would not be found

They blamed others for their sin Adam blamed God for giving him the woman Eve blamed the serpent, really Satan for deceiving her

And God made a promise in this 3:15 You-Satan and the woman, there will be enmity-fighting Between your seed and her seed-seed refers to a future child from a woman He will strike your head

The man that would one day be born of a woman is Jesus Christ Satan thought that he could kill the Son of God, Jesus on the cross But Jesus rose from the dead and defeated Satan

God made a way for mankind to go to heaven and have a restored relationship If you put your faith in Jesus as your Savior, you can have your sins forgiven You can go to heaven forever

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel Pondré enemistad entre tú y la mujer,y entre tu simiente y la de ella;su simiente te aplastará la cabeza, pero tú le morderás el talón nami nitaweka uadui kati yako na huyo mwanamke, na kati ya uzao wako na uzao wake; huo utakuponda kichwa, na wewe utamponda kisigino

The Salvation Story in the Bible Adam and Eve The Bible is the story about God working in the world to bring salvation to all peoples People can not go to heaven because we all have a problem Sin is what separates us from God And because we are sinful, we can not go before the perfect God So God worked to make the salvation story A way for people to have their sins forgiven and go to heaven forever God wants to save people from going to Hell God invites you to go to Heaven And God worked in people to make this salvation possible This is Good News for all peoples Many people are a part of the story And all the stories lead to Jesus Where does this story start? In the beginning I. Satan Tempts Adam and Eve to Sin Vss. 1-5 In the beginning, God made everything that we know The heavens and earth, animals and plants and man and woman The Garden of Eden was a place on earth made by God for the 1st couple, Adam and Eve. It was a beautiful place, a perfect place that provided all the food they needed They had to work and take care of the garden, but it was easy work Adam and Eve were to live in this garden forever, having a relationship with God God gave them one command, don t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from that tree, you will die Adam and Eve were created perfect with no sin Then Satan entered the garden and possessed the snake Satan talked to Eve and Adam was there Satan 1st of all confused Eve Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden? He was making her doubt and think about what God really said It threw her off balance, what? God didn t say that, what did God say? No, God said we can eat from the trees in the garden We can t eat from the one tree in the middle of the garden And she added, we can t even touch it As far as we know, God didn t say, you can t touch it That was a good idea, but it may have been the 1st man made rule Adding to the commands that God gave to us God did say that if you eat of it you will die-spiritually, physically Then the big lie came from Satan, you will not surely die Then the ½ truth, your eyes will be opened Their eyes were opened, but not in a good way, in an evil way They would see and know and experience evil Then another lie, you will be like God, that isn t true They wouldn t be like God, their relationship with God was broken Then another ½ truth knowing good from evil They would know good and evil, but not in a way that they wanted to know it. Because their innocence would be gone forever And they would know evil by committing sin, disobeying God Realize when Satan tempts you to sin, he will lie and give you ½ truths to convince you to disobey God. Satan will tell you that this sin will benefit you But Satan will not tell you the bad consequences of sin Realize also that Satan doesn t have to work that hard to get us to sin Because we have this sin nature in us, that is the desire to sin And when we want to sin, Satan just has to do a little persuading But when you know the right thing to do, obeying God That is when there is a struggle inside you The words of the snake-satan sounded good, but the intention was evil The words were not total lies, there was a little truth there And that is why it was so difficult for Adam and Eve to discern the truth Satan was cunning and shrewd in an evil way Satan twisted the words of God and said that God was a liar Satan knew that if he could get Adam and Eve to disobey God, all people after them, all the human race would disobey God, we call it sin That sin nature, the desire to sin was passed down to you and me

II. The Bad Decision in the Garden Vs. 6 Adam and Eve had a decision to make Would they trust God or would they trust Satan? Eve looked at the fruit and it looked good How could something so good be so bad? That s what many people today say about sin, And she desired the fruit and the benefits She thought she would get wisdom This fruit-sin is beneficial, it will help me, not hurt me, she thought And they believed the lie of Satan They doubted that God s Word was true They didn t trust God They trusted the words of a deceptive creature, Satan And the rest is history Mankind has been paying for that decision ever since then III. The Effects of the Garden Decision Vss. 7-15 Innocence was gone, they realized they were naked, they tried to cover themselves But it was almost funny making clothes from fig leaves You can t make clothes out of leaves from a tree, but they tried I think it really was a deeper problem They realized that they sinned and they were trying to cover their sin But it didn t work They hid from God They knew they disobeyed God and they knew God knew And they thought that by hiding that they would not be found Have you ever had a child do something wrong and then he hides? You know they did it and you call to them and you probably know where the child is hiding. You call to see if the child will answer. And many times the child does answer, but will they confess? Or will they make excuses? Will they blame others? God knew where Adam and Eve were hiding, He is all knowing But He calls to them to see if they would answer and they did answer But they were lost, lost spiritually and no fig leaves or trees would hide their sin from God They blamed others for their sin Adam blamed God for giving him the woman That is bold and stupid at the same time Eve was a helper, an equal with him, his companion Eve blamed the serpent, really Satan for deceiving her Yes, it is true that the Satan deceived her but she disobeyed God There were consequences for the disobedience Interesting that God does curse the serpent We don t know what snakes looked like before this, but from this moment on, all snakes would crawl along the ground The snake is a sign of God s curse on Satan And God made a promise in this 3:15 You-Satan and the woman there will be enmity-fighting Between your seed and her seed-seed refers to a future child from a woman He will strike your head, there would come a man one day that would defeat Satan and the sin problem that he gave to man on that day You, Satan will bruise his heel, You Satan will only wound the man but he will defeat you The man that would one day be born of a woman is Jesus Christ Satan thought that he could kill the Son of God, Jesus on the cross But Jesus rose from the dead and defeated Satan Satan only bruised Jesus heel, but Jesus crushed Satan s head With Jesus going to the cross, dying and rising from the dead, God made a way for mankind to go to heaven and have a restored relationship If you put your faith in Jesus as your Savior, you can have your sins forgiven You can go to heaven forever, you can live in the presence of God just as Adam and Eve did in the garden. This is the beginning of the salvation story Adam and Eve disobeyed God and started sin in mankind Sin was then passed to every person in the world And there was nothing that Adam and Eve or any man could do to fix the problem. It was too big to fix. The failure of Adam and Eve was fixed by God when he sent Jesus Christ to this world to be the Savior of the world
