CONNECT TIME Is there something you once thought was impossible for you to do, but now you can do it? e.g. Playing a certain musical piece, reaching a high level in a computer game. THE BIG QUESTION (To discuss in your KDG s) 1. Why did God send the Holy Spirit? God sent His Holy Spirit to enable us to know Christ through salvation and to give us the power to live the life Jesus promised to all who trust and obey Him. 2. How can the Holy Spirit help us every day? It is as simple as asking for help. He is there at all times to guide and lead and comfort us. The Holy Spirit helps us to live for Jesus and is with us all the time. Whenever we need to help, He is there. God knows what you are going through at every moment and He wants to help you. 3. What are some things you have learned about the Holy Spirit today? The Holy Spirit can transform our lives and help us live a life for Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a person. The Holy Spirit is invisible but powerful, we can feel and see the effect of Holy Spirit. ACTIVITY SHEETS Children complete the Activity Sheets in this time.
THE BIG ACTIVITY Purpose: To show that with some help we can do things that we thought were impossible. Supplies Needed: Regular sized sheet of paper, scissors, pencils. Directions: Give each child a sheet of regular sized paper. Ask them if they think they could fit their whole body through the paper, ask if they think they could they climb through the paper. Today let s try this experiment and see if we can! Instruct the children to fold the sheet of paper in half lengthways. Next, keeping the paper folded cut it from alternate sides, but not right across as shown in the diagram. Mark the top and bottom of the fold about 2.5cm from the edge. Unfold the paper, and cut along the fold between the marks you have made leaving the two ends joined. Then carefully open the paper - and you will discover you have made a ring big enough to climb through! Explanation: In our own strength, power and understanding we can only do so much. We might have thought that going through a sheet of paper was impossible but when we have help and a new understanding we found out that we could do it. With the Holy Spirit to help us, empower us and be our guide things we thought were impossible can happen. THE BIG WORD Supplies Needed: Scissors, Big Word Page printed from print material disc, coloured pencils, envelope for each child. This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us. So we should give our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16 (NCV) Give each child a Big Word Puzzle Page from the printed from the print material disc. Children can colour in their page using coloured pencils. Once decorated they can cut their page into pieces to make a puzzle. Children can put all the pieces of their puzzle into an envelope to take home and challenge their family and friends to see how quickly they can put it together. GAME Supplies Needed: A key or another small object. Hunt the key - Ask the children to sit in a tight circle and choose one child to be the key hunter. The key hunter stands in the middle of the circle and with, their eyes closed, counts aloud to ten. While the key hunter is counting the other players begin passing the key around the circle keeping it hidden. When the player in the middle reaches 10, and opens their eyes, they must try and figure out who has the key. The key can continue to be passed around and players can be pretending to pass
the key attempting to trick the key hunter. The hunter watches and tries to guess who has the key. They have 5 chances to guess who has it and if they don t get it right start the game again and another player can have a turn. Or, when they have found the key they can choose someone else to be the hunter. PRAYER Dear God, Thank you that we are not alone, Thank you that you have given us your Holy Spirit to guide us and be our helper. Help us to hear the Holy Spirit and to live a life for you. In Jesus name, Amen.
