BUILDING TRADITIONAL TEMPLES The design of traditional Kadampa Temples is based on the mandala palace of Buddha Heruka. There are presently four such Temples, with the fifth scheduled to open in September 2019 in Arizona. Each year there are three International Festivals: Spring, Summer and Fall. Of these the first two are held at Manjushri KMC in the UK, the mother centre of modern Kadampa Buddhism. International Kadampa Retreat Center Grand Canyon, USA In 2017, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche established International Kadampa Retreat Center Grand Canyon (IKRC Grand Canyon) for local, national and international benefit. Located in the beautiful mountainous region of northern Arizona, the centre is less than an hour from the Grand Canyon, an area of Arizona Temple under construction the US known for its extraordinary natural beauty. Formerly a hotel on Historic Route 66 with seventy en-suite rooms, the centre is being made ready to host the 2019 Fall Festival. Temple Opening - 26 September 2019 with Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong Within the tranquil grounds of the centre the fifth traditional Kadampa Temple is presently under construction. It will open at the beginning of the Fall Festival, which will be held in this auspicious place. The official opening and blessing ceremony will be conducted by Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong on September 26, the day before the Festival begins.

New City Temples in 2019 In response to the growing needs of modern people for places where they can train in developing inner peace, the International Temples Project oversees an ongoing programme of new centre development. Many are City Temples, which transform ordinary commercial spaces into sacred places of meditation. This programme of urban temples is part of Venerable Geshe-la s vision to bring modern Kadampa Buddhism to all people where they live and work. Each new centre has a qualified shrine, bookstore, social area and other facilities to provide local people with a place where they can meet with like-minded people and follow a modern path of transformation.
