Diwali Program at Jain Center (Tue Nov 10 th -Thu Nov 12 th, 2015) Diwali is one single festival which is celebrated on exactly same day by different religions and faiths for various reasons specific to that religion. Jains celebrate Diwali to celebrate The Nirwan of Bhagvan Mahavir. We will celebrate Diwali at Jain Center as per the program below: Day/Date Time Program Tue, 10 th Nov, 2015 Aso Vad 14-Kali Chaudus Wed, 11 th Nov, 2015 Aso Vad 15-Diwali Mahavirswami Nirvan Din Thu, 12 th Nov, 2015 Kartik Sud 1-New Year 5:30 PM Pratikraman in Aradhana Hall 7:30-9:30 AM 7:30-9:30 PM 10:00 PM-12 AM 4:00 AM onwards 6:30 AM 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 9:30 AM 8:00-10:00 AM Laddu puja followed by Abhishek and different pujas in Derasar Bhakti Bhavna,Aarti & Mangal Divo in Derasar Mahavirswami Nirvan Jaap in Aradhana Hall Gautamswami Kevalgyan Jaap in Aradhana Hall Dwar Opening Manglik in Cultural Hall Asthprakari Puja-one puja for each idol-total 5 All Panchdhatu Pratima Puja Snatrapuja,Aarti,Mangal Divo,Shanti Kalash,Gautamswami Aarti Sadharmik Bhakti-Navkarshi by sponsorship with nakro of $2,001(including food), $201(excluding food). Please note: Aadesh for Gheebolis of New Year (Nov 12) will be given on Wed (Nov 11) during Bhavna Bhakti. Gyan Panchmi Program (Monday, Nov 16 th, 2015) Gyan Panchmi is celebrated 5 days after Diwali and is also known as Laabh Pancham. It is the day of appreciating acquired/collected knowledge in every form and holy books. A lot of people also observe fast by keeping silence (Maun). This is an auspicious day for those who want to start Pancham with Fasting. This year Gyan Panchmi is on Monday, Nov 16 th, 2015. We will have Gyan Pujan and Gautam swami Sthapana at Derasar at 9:30 AM for anyone who wishes to perform puja. Dev vandan will follow after puja. Kartiki Punam & Pat Darshan (actual-wed Nov 25 th, 2015, observed-sun Nov 29 th, 2015) Kartiki Punam night is considered as the brightest full moon night in the whole year as the rainy season is supposed to end and night sky is all clear. This is the day to resolve to free oneself of basic instincts. In the rainy/monsoon season, all Acharya Bhagvants, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Munis etc stay at one place and do not travel for four months. This starts from Aso Sud Chaturdashi and ends on Kartik Sud Punam. After Kartik Punam, their vihar starts again to spread the knowledge of Principles of Jainism such as Truth, Ahimsa, and Compassion etc. Thus, Kartiki Punam has a big significance for all Jains. We will have Kartiki Punam Celebration on two days as below: Day/Date Time Program Wednesday, 25 th Nov, 2015 (Kartiki Punam actual day) Sunday, 29 th Nov, 2015 (Kartiki Punam observed) 9:30 AM Pat Darshan in Aradhana hall 9:30 AM 11:00 AM Pat Darshan with Khamasna and Chaitya vandan General Body Meeting - in Cultural hall, followed by Swamivatsalya Lunch

For details, please contact Dr. Mahendra Shah by phone (714) 369-8701 or email mahendra.shah@jaincenter.net JCYC Info and Calendar JCYC Teachers Training JCYC is always striving to improve our Pathshala. Our focus is children and we are trying to make our teaching process kidsfriendly without compromising our Jain curriculum. We are employing new technology and implementing modern proven methods of teaching. We listen to our teachers, children, parents and community for ideas to make our Pathshala better so children want to come on their own, not forced to come by others. We invited a professional versed in effective teaching methods and had a one day session with our JCYC teachers. More than 40 teachers from religion and language classes participated in this one day training program in September. All the participants had a very positive response. Please contact Sailes Jain or Poorvi Parekh for details. 2015 Paryusan and JCYC children Several JCYC children participated in Tapasya during Paryusan. Tapasya included Ekasan, Attahi and more. More than one child did complete fasting for 16 days. We are proud of them and honor them for their Tapasya. Several JCYC children participated in cultural program on Mahavir Jaynti and provided excellent entertainment to our community. We appreciate their talent and beautiful performances. We were happy to see that JCYC children were provided with opportunity to perform Aarti in the temple in evenings during Paryusan Mahaparv. JCYC Diwali and Halloween Celebration JCYC committee is organizing Diwali and Halloween celebration for all the children combined with Back to Pathshala on November 1 st 9:00 AM and onward in main cultural hall. This will be a fun event for children of all ages.

Volunteers give their time and effort year after year without expectation of reward. We know their dedication and we appreciate that. Every year we offer them a token gift of appreciation. Even though they work as a team, they have their assigned duties and some of them never met others. This year we thought of honoring them with a special program and invited them to a dinner with festivity and music at Jain Center in May. It was a nice social event where they got to mingle with each other and got to know them better. Please contact any JCYC teacher or volunteer for details. JAYA Update The Jain Association of Young Adults (JAYA) was formed in 2012 with the simple mission of connecting young adults (Ages 25-50) through cultural, religious, and community wide programs so that they may build deep bonds to the community. After all, the future and continued success of our most cherished Jain Center of Southern California will largely be dependent on the younger adults. They will move our Sangh forward by bringing new ideas and a fresh perspective that only they can provide. JAYA accomplishes its mission by planning various social, temple-related, and community service events. We have highlighted a few of them below. It has been said that service brings people together and nowhere is this more evident than in the following events. JAYA committee members helped facilitate the Swapna ceremony at the Jain Center during Paryushan. Additionally, JAYA members had previously organized fund raisers for animals and less privileged children. $1,164 were collected and donated to Akshaya Patra childrens. JAYA members got together for an afternoon hike in Peters Canyon Regional Park. Equipped with snacks, water bottles, and cutie-tangerines, members began their cardio workout and experienced some breathtaking views. Other events enjoyed by the group were Desi Dhamal, bowling, etc. JAYA is planning to get together to feed homeless people in December. It would not have been a successful year without the cornerstone event, the annual picnic. This year s picnic was held at the Yorba Regional Park where members socialized, played games, and ate delicious made to order sandwiches. With the guidance of JCSC, the tireless efforts of JAYA committee members, and the enthusiastic participation of its members, JAYA will continue to fulfill its mission and build a strong foundation for the future of our Sangh.
