Thereafter the blessed one self-existent and unmanifest, having become visible, dispelling the darkness everywhere, created waters. He placed a seed in those waters. Thereafter that seed became a golden egg. In that egg Brahmā, the grandsire of all worlds, was born. There, the blessed one, having stayed for a full year, by himself alone though his own meditation, made the egg into two. He formed the heaven and earth from the two halves of the egg. 11. यद Çनक -न Éन अBसर शकiHतल म ऋ:षण :वÖ मY`ण अज जनत जन c-aor III/1 तद स प7न Mवगfम आrहत आ-rहv P aor III/1 When the apsaras who had the name Menakā bore Śakuntalā by the sage Viśvāmitra, then she ascended to heaven again.

N Oष# अन -उ/PQ- BV6 मन स#Oष# /वगत- BV5 1पRह व त- BV5 र ग-भय-T ध म#/न 1थत- BV6 ध उLयM He whose mind is unperturbed in sorrows and from whom desire is gone in pleasures, from whom longing, fear, and anger are gone, he is called a sage whose attitude is well established. 57. य सव$U अन - BV6 अ भV=ह, तत तत शभ#-अश#भW 6 Xय, न अ भनYद/त न P= K, त1य 67 6/त Zत He who has no desire anywhere, who, having gotten this or that good or bad fortune, neither delights nor loathes, his attitude is well established. 58. यद च अयW, क[म$ इव अWग /न, इ Y]य-अथ^_य इ Y]य ण सव$श सWहरM, त1य 67 6/त Zत And when he, like a tortoise his limbs, entirely withdraws his senses from the objects of the senses, his attitude is well established. 59. /नर -आह र1य a/हन /वषय रस-वजb0 /व/नवत$YM परW दRKc अ1य रस अ/प /नवत$M For the individual who refrains from food, objects turn away except for taste. Having seen the highest, even taste turns away for him.

60. क YMय, 6म थ /न /ह इ Y]य ण यतत यत 1P PrAP 6/1 /वप eत प#fष1य अ/प मन 6सभW हर Yत O Kaunteya, for the agitating senses forcibly take away the mind of even a striving learned person. 61. त /न सवF ण सWयgय य#hत मत - BV6 पर आस त आस 2A opt III/1 य1य /ह इ Y]य ण वi, त1य 67 6/त Zत Having restrained them all, one should sit engaged and intent upon me. For he whose senses are in control, his attitude is well established. 62. /वषय न jय यत jय 4P PrAP 6/1 प#Wस 6/1 Mष# सWग ज यM सWग त क म सWज यM, क म त T ध अ भज यM For a person meditating on objects, attachment in them arises. From attachment arises desire, from desire arises anger. 63. T ध त सgम ह भव/त, सgम ह त 1मR/त-/वkम 1मR/त-kWश त ब# m-न श, ब# m-न श त 6णnय/त From anger is infatuation, from infatuation confusion of memory. From confusion of memory, the destruction of attitude, due to destruction of attitude he is ruined. 64. र ग-P=ष- TP5 /वय#hतo त# आIम- TP6 वnयo इ Y]यo /वषय न चरन चर 1P PrAP 1/1 /वध=य- BV6 आIम 6स दम अ/धगLछ/त But one acting on objects with senses devoid of longing and hatred and under one s control, having an obedient mind, attains serenity. 65. 6स a अ1य सव$-N ख नr ह /न उपज यM 6सYन- BV6 sतस /ह ब# m आश# पय$व/तZM In serenity, the abandonment of all his sorrows arises. For intellect quickly becomes steady for one whose mind is serene. 66. अय#hत1य ब# m न अ 1त, न च अय#hत1य भ वन न च अभ वयत भt c-prap 6/1 श Yत, अश Yत1य स#खW कuत There is no intellect for one not engaged, and no cultivation for one not engaged. And for one not cultivating himself there is no peace, and whence is happiness for one without peace?

67. यद मन /ह चरतr चर 1P PrAP 6/+ इ Y]य णr अन#/वध यM अन#-/व-ध p-pres III/1, तद अ1य 67r हर/त, व य# इव अgभ/स न वम 2/1 For the mind that yields the wandering senses, it takes away his attitude, like the wind a boat in water. 68. मह ब ह, त1म त य1य इ Y]य ण इ Y]य-अथ^_य सव$श /नगRह त /न, त1य 67 6/त Zत O one with great arms, therefore he whose senses are entirely kept away from the objects of senses, his attitude is well established. 69. य सव$भtत नr /नश त1यr सWयम ज गvत ज गR 2P pres III/1 य1यr भtत /न ज w/तज गR 2P pres III/ +, स पnयत म#x /नश What is night for all beings, in that the one who is controlled is awake. In which beings are awake, that is night for the seeing sage. 70. यPत आप आपtय$म णम पR PrPP 2/1 अचल- BV6 6/तZW सम#]W 6/वश Yत, तPत सव^ क म यW 6/वश Yत, स श Yतम आXन /त, न क म- TP6 क म Just as waters enter the ocean being filled, whose stability is unwavering, like that the one whom all desires enter, he attains peace, not one who desires desires. 71. य प#म न सवFन क म न /वह य /न 1पRह /नम$म /नरहWक र चर/त, स श Yतम अ/धगLछ/त The man who, having given up all desires, wanders with no longing, no possessiveness, and no ego, he attains peace. 72. प थ$, एष z { 1थ/त, एनr 2/1 6 Xय न /वम# /त अ1य म अYत-क } अ/प 1थIव z{-/नवfणम ऋLछ/त O Partha, this is the Brahmic state, having attained it one is not confused. Having stayed in it even at the final time, one attains brahma-nirvāṇa.
