Processional hymn: 1 O God beyond all praising, We worship you today And sing the love amazing That songs cannot repay; For we can only wonder At every gift you send, At blessings without number And mercies without end: We lift our hearts before you And wait upon your word, We honour and adore you, Our great and mighty Lord. 2 Then hear, O gracious Saviour, Accept the love we bring, That we who know your favour May serve you as our king; And whether our tomorrows Services Today 8.30am Said Eucharist 10.00am Sung Eucharist Services this week Tuesday 10.15am Morning Prayer Thursday 10.00am Said Eucharist Coffee morning Tuesday 10.30-11.30am Memory Cafe Friday 2-4pm Next Sunday 24th March Third Sunday of Lent 8.30am Said Eucharist 10.00am Sung Eucharist Next Week s Readings Isaiah 55: 1-9; Psalm 63; 1 Cor. 10: 1-13; Luke 13: 1-9 Be filled with good or ill, We'll triumph through our sorrows And rise to bless you still: To marvel at your beauty And glory in your ways, And make a joyful duty Our sacrifice of praise. Michael Perry ( 1942-1996) AM743 COLLECT Almighty God, you show to those who are in error the light of your truth, that they may return to the way of righteousness: grant to all those who are admitted into the fellowship of Christ s religion, that they may reject those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same; through our 1

Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen OLD TESTAMENT READING Genesis 15: 1-12, 17-18 A reading from the book of Genesis. After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great. But Abram said, O Lord GOD, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir. But the word of the LORD came to him, This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir. He brought him outside and said, Look towards heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them. Then he said to him, So shall your descendants be. And he believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness. Then he said to him, I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess. But he said, O Lord GOD, how am I to know that I shall possess it? He said to him, Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon. He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire-pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, For the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Psalm 27 R The Lord is the strong hold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? R When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh-- my adversaries and foes-- they shall stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident. R One thing I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. R 2

For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. R Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. R Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! "Come," my heart says, "seek his face!" Your face, LORD, do I seek. R NEW TESTAMENT READING Philippians 3: 17-4.1 A reading from the letter of Paul to the Philippians. Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation so that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved. For the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gradual Hymn: 1 O for a closer walk with God, A calm and heavenly frame; A light to shine upon the road That leads me to the Lamb! 2 What peaceful hours I once enjoyed, How sweet their memory still! But they have left an aching void The world can never fill. 3 Return, O holy Dove, return, Sweet messenger of rest: I hate the sins that made thee mourn And drove thee from my breast. 4 The dearest idol I have known, Whate'er that idol be, Help me to tear it from thy throne And worship only thee. 5 So shall my walk be close with God, Calm and serene my frame; So purer light shall mark the road That leads me to the Lamb. William Cowper ( 1731-1800) AM131 GOSPEL READING Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The Lord be with you And also with you 3

Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (13: 31-35). Glory to you O Lord At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you. He said to them, Go and tell that fox for me, Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. This is the gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Offertory Hymn: 1 Rock of ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee; Let the water and the blood, From thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure: Cleanse me from its guilt and power. 2 Not the labours of my hands Can fulfil thy law's demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears for ever flow, All for sin could not atone: Thou must save, and thou alone. 3 Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to thy cross I cling; Naked, come to thee for dress; Helpless, look to thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Saviour, or I die. 4 While I draw this fleeting breath, When my eyelids close in death, When I soar through tracts unknown, See thee on thy judgement throne; Rock of ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee. Augustus Montague Toplady ( 1740-1778)* AM772 Communion Hymn: 1 Jesus Christ is waiting, waiting in the streets: No one is his neighbour, all alone he eats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I am lonely too; Make me, friend or stranger, fit to wait on you. 2 Jesus Christ is raging, raging in the streets, Where injustice spirals and real hope retreats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I am angry too; In the Kingdom's causes let me rage with you. 4

3 Jesus Christ is healing, healing in the streets, Curing those who suffer, touching those he greets. Listen, Lord Jesus, I have pity too; Let my care be active, healing, just like you. 4 Jesus Christ is dancing, dancing in the streets, Where each sign of hatred he, with love, defeats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I should triumph too; Where good conquers evil, let me dance with you. 5 Jesus Christ is calling, calling in the streets, 'Who will join my journey? I will guide their feet.' Listen, Lord Jesus, let my fears be few: Walk one step before me, I will follow you. John L. Bell (b.1949) and Graham Maule (b.1958) AM563 POST COMMUNION PRAYER Almighty God, you see that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Recessional Hymn: 1 I bind unto myself today The strong name of the Trinity, By invocation of the same, The Three in One, and One in Three. 2 I bind unto myself today The virtues of the star-lit heaven, The glorious sun's life-giving ray, The whiteness of the moon at even, The flashing of the lightning free, The whirling wind's tempestuous shocks, The stable earth, the deep salt sea Around the old eternal rocks. 3 I bind unto myself today The power of God to hold and lead, His eye to watch, his might to stay, His ear to hearken to my need; The wisdom of my God to teach, His hand to guide, his shield to ward, The word of God to give me speech, His heavenly host to be my guard. 5 I bind unto myself the name, The strong name of the Trinity, By invocation of the same, The Three in One, and One in Three, Of whom all nature hath creation, Eternal Father, Spirit, Word. Praise to the Lord of my salvation: Salvation is of Christ the Lord. attributed to StPatrick\fs12 (372-466) tr. by Cecil Frances Alexander\fs12 (1818-1895) AM277 CCL 424001 Dated 17.03.19 5
