Lighting of Candle ** Entry of the Bible Welcome and Intimations INTROIT Call to Worship Minister : Let us come to worship God, All : in whom we place our trust. Minister : Let us come and raise our voices in praise All : to the God of all that is old and new. Minister : Let us come as one people All : united in faith and community. Minister : Let us come whether young or old All : knowing that we are each precious and loved. Minister : Let us come together All : and praise the Lord! Minister : LET US WORSHIP GOD! ** Hymn God of generations, we are all your children... God of generations, we are all your children; to your church we bring our gifts, our worship and our song. Young and old we follow, hand in hand together: in your great love, together we are strong. Christ, you welcomed children, called us to be like them, and received a boy s small gift to feed a hungry crowd. In our church s children, may we see you working: more than our future! They are faithful now. Spirit, freely moving, giving youth a vision, by your grace young Jeremiah heard your loving call; Mary was a young one when she learned her mission: through faithful youth, you offer truth to all. Prayers of Intercession Offering Prayer of Dedication ** Hymn 512 To God be the glory, great things he hath done To God be the glory! great things he hath done; so loved he the world that he gave us his son; who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice! Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son and give him the glory! Great things he hath done! O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! to every believer the promise of God; for every offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. Praise the Lord!... Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our joy and our wonder, when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord!... (Fanny Jane Crosby, 1820-1915) God of men and women, Helper on our journey, you have called us in our faith to grow and to mature. May we keep on learning, worshiping and praying, that each new day, we ll serve you all the more. ( 1998 Carolyn Winfrey Gillette) 2 ** BENEDICTION ** Threefold Amen ** Bible taken out of the church 7
Bible Readings Galatians 4 : 8-9 (N.T. Pg. 237 approx.) Luke 5 : 33-39 (N.T. Pg. 81 approx.) Opening Prayer ** Hymn 214 New every morning New every morning is the love our wakening and uprising prove, through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life, and power, and thought. New mercies, each returning day, hover around us while we pray, - new perils past, new sins forgiven new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven. If, on our daily course, our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice. The trivial round, the common task, will furnish all we ought to ask, - room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God. Only, O Lord, in thy dear love, fit us for perfect rest above; and help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray. (John Keble, 1792-1866) SERMON ** Sung Response (Sung twice, seated) Love, I will love you, Lord Love, I will love you, Lord, with all my heart. O God, I will tell the wonders of your ways, and glorify your name. Love, I will love you, Lord, with all my heart. In you I will find the source of all my joy. Alleluia! (Claude Fraysse, 1941-) ( 1997 Claude Fraysse) 6 ** Hymn 688 By cool Siloam s shady rill By cool Siloam s shady rill how sweet the lily grows! How sweet the breath, beneath the hill, of Sharon s dewy rose! Lo! such a child whose early feet the paths of peace have trod, whose secret heart with influence sweet is upward drawn to God. O thou whose infant feet were found within thy Father s shrine, whose years, with changeless virtue crowned, were all alike divine. Dependent on thy bounteous breath, we seek thy grace alone, through every stage of life, and death, to keep us still thine own. (Reginald Heber, 1783-1826) SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Preamble Minister : Do you present Jack for baptism, desiring that he might be grafted into Christ as a member of his body the Church? Answer : I do. Minister : Do you believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and do you confess Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? Answer : I do. 3
Minister : Let us stand to affirm our faith... ** All : I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayer Declaration Baptism ** Aaronic Blessing The Lord bless you, and keep you: the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN. Minister : Will you, depending on the grace of God, teach Jack the truths and duties of the Christian faith; and by prayer and example bring him up in the life and worship of the Church? Answer : With God s help we will. Charge to the Congregation Minister : I charge you, the people of this congregation, to maintain the life of worship and service, that Jack and all the children among you may grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the knowledge of the love of God. All : With God s help, we will live out our baptism as a loving community in Christ: nurturing one another in faith, upholding one another in prayer, and encouraging one another in service. Presentation of Certificate and Cradle Cross Prayer and Lord s Prayer OUR FATHER, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. ** Hymn (Sung twice) Come on and celebrate Come on and celebrate! His gift of love we will celebrate - the Son of God, who loved us and gave us life. We ll shout your praise, O King: you give us joy nothing else can bring; we ll give to you our offering in celebration praise. Come on and celebrate, celebrate, celebrate and sing, celebrate and sing to the King: come on and celebrate, celebrate, celebrate and sing, celebrate and sing to the King!
