Volume: 8 Issue: 27 www.balliangeastps.vic.edu.au Balliang East Primary School Newsletter 23rd August, 2016 Be PREPared: Last Thursday we had our first of 8 Transition mornings for our 2017 Preps. Ten potential Preps came along and spent the morning in the classroom with Miss Rees. Thank you to the PA for organising morning tea for our Prep mums. This Thursday will be our second session. If you know anyone who might like to attend a session please suggest that they contact our school. Thank you: Last week I asked if anyone could spare a few hours mowing our front grass before our Transition Day. A huge thank you to Grant Williams for coming to the school early Wednesday morning and doing this for us. Premiers Reading Challenge: The Challenge ends on the 9 th September. I have been adding as many books to the students list as I can so that they complete the Challenge. If your child s name is still on the Incomplete list then I have not been able to record any more Challenge Books against their name. Most readers come under Choice Books. Please help them complete the Challenge by encouraging them to read extra books at home. Literacy Trail: A reminder to parents that this year s Literacy Trail will be in Bacchus Marsh on Thursday 8 th September. As always, we are asking that our students dress up as book characters, just to add to the fun and atmosphere of the day. Students may need to start planning their outfit soon in order to have something to wear as it is only 3 weeks away. Footy Tipping: This year s Tipping winners will be announced at the end of Round 23. Olivia Newton John Raffle: If you are interested in purchasing a $2.00 raffle ticket to support Cancer Research, please see Mrs D. There are twenty five tickets available to purchase at the office. Father s Day Donations: Please send your donation for the Father s Day Hamper into the General Office. Father s Day Cards: Father s Day cards are for sale for $2.00. They are displayed in the office foyer. International Food Day: A note has been sent home today asking if your child is participating in the special lunch next Monday. A few weeks ago we sent home a note asking families to prepare a meal to share. So far 14 families have indicated that they will be sending something along. There will be no charge to those families who donate a dish. If you are unable to send something along but your child still wishes to participate, there will be a charge of $5:00 per student. Please return today s note ASAP indicating whether or not your child/ren are participating.

Big Write Stories Exploring Space One day I was playing football and when I looked up in the sky a ladder came down and hit me on the head and I said to myself, if I climb the ladder my mum will be scared. So I climbed it anyway. I wanted to climb it because I wanted to touch the moon. On my way up I felt weird and scared and the ladder was wobbling. On my way I saw Mars, Pluto and everything on Earth. I saw stars sparkling and the sun crackling and when I got to the moon I saw an alien with 140 eyes. By Zayne.

The Moon I woke up hearing a bang. I looked out my window and then I saw a long ladder leading up to the moon. I said, Why is there a ladder? I felt like I was dreaming but when I touched it, it was real. I climbed it and when I got to the top I saw aliens so I ran away. I was lucky that I did not get hit. Then I ran into a cheese stand but when I looked up I saw an alien selling space cheese so I bought it. It was good. When I was walking around I saw Neil Armstrong and the space station. Then when I was finished at the moon the ladder was gone. So I used the ship to get there. It took a long time to get back on Earth. After an hour I made it back home then I said, I am never, ever going on the moon ever again. By Ethan
