During the month of August, we are encouraged to pray so that any far-reaching decisions of economists and politicians may protect the family as one of the treasures of humanity. I asked myself, How can family be one of the treasures of humanity? What are people s thoughts about family and family values? These questions let me to search for other people s opinions. My favorite quotes on family so far are: Family likes branches on the tree. We all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. - Unknown. MĐB MANA Issue 100 2 When I was home visiting my family, I was able to view The Incredibles 1 and The Greatest Showman with my nieces and nephew. Interestingly enough, these two movies depict valuable lessons about family. It was a significant moment when Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, honestly acknowledged to his wife, Helen, Elastigirl, that he was not strong enough to face the Omnidroid, a fearsome robot created by Syndrome. However, Elastigirl did not skip a beat but offered her assistance to her husband to face the enemy with the support of their children, Violet and Dash. Omnidroid and Syndrome were stopped by the whole superhero Parr family. This is a great example of family sticking together through the ups and downs of life. In The Greatest Showman, Mrs. Barnum decided to forgive her husband, and made their family whole again after Mr. Barnum sought her out and apologized for his mistakes. Because of her family values, Mrs. Barnum not only lived out the meaning of family, but also gave their daughters an example of forgiveness and love. Have you watched any movie that promotes and supports family values lately? Have you experienced forgiveness in your family? Now that we have some ideas about our own family values, let s take a closer look at the intention that Pope Francis asked us to pray for in August. You may say that you don t know any economists and politicians, or that they are so out of your reach. This may be true, but don t forget about the power of prayer. Even though we might not meet any economists and politicians now, we do know and want to protect family values. Therefore, we can 1. Pray for economists/politicians and those who are in authority, who have responsibilities and power to make important decisions, that their decisions will promote and protect family values. 2. As members of TNTT, we can promote and live out the family values in our own families, in our classrooms, chapters, parishes, and community. Pope Francis once said at the World Family Meetings, Family is the foundation of the society, and the most beautiful thing God made is FAMILY. Therefore, let us unite our prayers with people around the world to pray that any farreaching decisions of economists and politicians may protect the family as one of the treasures of humanity, especially those who are being separated because of political reasons.
