Saviour, teach me day by day, Love s sweet lesson to obey, sweeter lesson cannot be, Loving Him who first loved me. 2. With a child s glad heart of love, At Thy bidding may I move, Prompt to serve and follow Thee, Loving Him who first loved me. Hymn #193 Savior, Teach Me 3. Teach me I am not my own, I am Thine, and Thine alone; Thine to keep, to rule, to save from all sin that would enslave. 4. Love in loving finds employ, In obedience all her joy; Ever new that joy will be, Loving Him who first loved me. 5. Teach me thus Thy steps to trace, Strong to follow in Thy grace. Learning how to love from Thee, Loving Him who first loved me. Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #178: The First Evangelists Part 6 Matthew 10:32 (KJV) Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. This Sabbath boys and girls, we will end with Part 6 of our lesson entitle, The First Evangelists in our study book Desire of Ages! Matthew 10:34 (KJV) Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:35 (KJV) For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. Matthew 10:36 (KJV) And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household. Matthew 10:37 (KJV) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:38 (KJV) And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:40 (KJV) He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. Matthew 10:42 (KJV) And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Luke 4:18 (KJV) The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, Luke 4:19 (KJV) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #37, pages 357-358 Jesus continues: As you confess Me before men, so I will confess you before God and the holy angels. You are to be My witnesses upon earth, channels through which My grace can flow for the healing of the world. So I will be your representative in heaven. The Father beholds not your faulty character, but He sees you as clothed in My perfection. I am the medium through which Heaven's blessings shall come to you. And everyone who confesses Me by sharing My sacrifice for the lost shall be confessed as a sharer in the glory and joy of the redeemed. {DA 357.1} Question: What are we to be for Jesus upon the earth? And, what shall be shared by everyone who confesses Jesus for the lost? Answer: You are to be My witnesses upon earth, channels through which My grace can flow for the healing of the world. And, by sharing My sacrifice for the lost shall be confessed as a sharer in the glory and joy of the redeemed. Song: Let s learn our first scripture song together dear one from the book of 1 John! 1 John 3:1-3 (KJV) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: (2 xs) therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. it knew him not. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (2 xs) The 1 John 3:1-3 He who would confess Christ must have Christ abiding in him. He cannot communicate that which he has not received. The disciples might speak fluently on doctrines, they might repeat the words of Christ Himself; but unless they possessed Christlike meekness and love, they were not confessing Him. Continuing: A spirit contrary to the spirit of Christ would deny Him, whatever the profession. Men may deny Christ by evilspeaking, by foolish talking, by words that are untruthful or unkind. They may deny Him by shunning life's burdens, by the pursuit of sinful pleasure. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#178 (5.14.16) Page 2

Question: What type of spirit would deny Christ? And, describe how men may deny Him? Answer: A spirit contrary to the spirit of Christ would deny Him, whatever the profession. And, by evilspeaking, by foolish talking, by words that are untruthful or unkind. They may deny Him by shunning life's burdens, by the pursuit of sinful pleasure. Continuing: They may deny Him by conforming to the world, by uncourteous behavior, by the love of their own opinions, by justifying self, by cherishing doubt, borrowing trouble, and dwelling in darkness. In all these ways they declare that Christ is not in them. And "whosoever shall deny Me before men," He says, "him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven." {DA 357.2} Question: In what ways will Christ declare He is not in them? And, what did Jesus say of whosoever shall deny Him before men? Answer: By the love of their own opinions, by justifying self, by cherishing doubt, borrowing trouble, and dwelling in darkness. And, He says, "him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven." The Saviour bade His disciples not to hope that the world's enmity to the gospel would be overcome, and that after a time its opposition would cease. He said, "I came not to send peace, but a sword." This creating of strife is not the effect of the gospel, but the result of opposition to it. Of all persecution the hardest to bear is variance in the home, the estrangement of dearest earthly friends. But Jesus declares, "He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me." {DA 357.3} Question: Did Jesus come to send peace? And which is the hardest of all persecution to bear? Answer: No, but a sword! This creating of strife is not the effect of the gospel, but the result of opposition to it. And, the hardest to bear is variance in the home, the estrangement of dearest earthly friends. Song: Let s learn another beautiful scripture song together dear one from the book of Luke! Luke 9:23-25 (KJV) And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? http://freescripturesongs.org/if-any-man-will-come-after-me Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#178 (5.14.16) Page 3

The mission of Christ's servants is a high honor, and a sacred trust. "He that receiveth you," He says, "receiveth Me, and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me." No act of kindness shown to them in His name will fail to be recognized and rewarded. And in the same tender recognition He includes the feeblest and lowliest of the family of God: "Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones"--those who are as children in their faith and their knowledge of Christ--"a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in nowise lose his reward." {DA 357.4} Question: How are the servants of Christ's mission called to a high honor, and a sacred trust? Answer: "He that receiveth you, Jesus says, receiveth Me, and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me." And, No act of kindness shown to them in His name will fail to be recognized and rewarded. Thus the Saviour ended His instruction. In the name of Christ the chosen twelve went out, as He had gone, "to preach the gospel to the poor,... to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." Luke 4:18, 19. {DA 358.1} Question: What did the chosen twelve go out to do In the name of Christ? And, whom did they set at liberty? Answer: "To preach the gospel to the poor,... to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." Song: Let s learn our last another beautiful scripture song dear one from the book of Isaiah! Isaiah 61:1-3 (KJV) The spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day (2 xs) of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them (that mourn) beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. The spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day (2 xs) of vengeance of our God; Isaiah Chapter 61: Verses 1 through 3 to proclaim liberty to the captives Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#178 (5.14.16) Page 4

Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 3-Moses Endured as Seeing Him Who is Invisible By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:27. {SD 94.1} For the honor of God and the deliverance of His downtrodden people, Moses sacrificed the honors of Egypt. Then, in a special sense, God undertook his training... He had yet to learn the lesson of dependence upon divine power. He had mistaken God's purpose. It was his hope to deliver Israel by force of arms. For this he risked all, and failed. In defeat and disappointment he became a fugitive and exile in a strange land.... Apparently cut off forever from his life's mission, he was receiving the discipline essential for its fulfilment.... He must obtain the experience that would make him a faithful, long-suffering shepherd to Israel.... In the stern simplicity of the wilderness... Moses gained that which went with him throughout the years of his toilsome and care-burdened life,--a sense of the personal presence of the Divine One.... When misunderstood and misrepresented, when called to bear reproach and insult, to face danger and death, he was able to endure "as seeing him who is invisible." {SD 94.2} Moses stands forth superior in wisdom and integrity to all the sovereigns and statesmen of earth.... He was generous, noble, well-balanced; he was not defective, and his qualities were not merely half developed. He could successfully exhort his fellow-men, because his life itself was a living representation of what man can become and accomplish with God as his helper.... He spoke from the heart and it reached the heart. He was accomplished in knowledge and yet simple as a child in the manifestation of his deep sympathies. Endowed with a remarkable instinct, he could judge instantly of the needs of all who surrounded him.... Of the man who is noted for his meekness, Christ says, He can be trusted. Through him I can reveal Myself to the world. He will not weave into the web any threads of selfishness. {SD 94.3} Next Week: We will begin a new chapter of our lesson entitle, Come Rest Awhile of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer. Next Sabbath: Chapter 38 Come Rest Awhile Sabbath May 21, 2016. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#178 (5.14.16) Page 5
