addition, Rockpointe pastors adopted the 7 who attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, their alma mater. They provided a meal and gift cards for the students. First Presbyterian Church adopted the 3 students who attend Alive Myanmar Church that meets in their building. One of First Presby s members adopted a college student from TWU because that s where she taught for many years and they attended a Christmas play together. Garden Ridge Church of Christ adopted 5 of the students and provided a dinner and gifts. Adopt a Chin College Student Year-Round! The Chin community badly needs educated professionals: Medical personnel, teachers, counselors, coaches, business professionals, mechanical engineers, and agricultural experts, not just for our country, but to act as advisers to their home country. Yet Chin college students have a very hard path. Although most students in college are not eligible for low-income Christmas angel trees because of their age, they often have as many needs as the younger children, sometimes eating only rice and eggs as they try to afford school. Most are eligible for government grants but that doesn t pay for books, living expenses, car expense or clothing. Many Chin parents cannot afford to help them financially, so the students work full time or part time in addition to going to school. They must study from the same books that native English speakers use, and spend hours looking up words they do not know. It is so easy for them to get discouraged. If you are interested in helping to encourage the Chin college students with notes of encouragement, prayer, and/or gifts throughout the year, please 2
contact Becky Nelson at beckynelson123@hotmail.com. Valentine s Day is coming up and would be a perfect opportunity to love on the students a bit. Thanks Rockpointe for 37 Same Jesus Christmas Parties A very big thank you to Rockpointe Church and Brandi Miller for participating in the CCM Christmas parties. Rockpointe individual families or small groups were assigned to a Chin family home. CCM provided translators who led the two groups to admire or decorate the Christmas tree, sing Christmas carols to each other and read the Christmas story in Chin or Burmese and English. They then prayed in their own language for each other for the Christmas blessings that only God can give peace, protection for families, success in school and jobs, hope and strength. Rockpointe groups provided some practical gifts as part of the American tradition of exchanging gifts to celebrate that we all worship the same Jesus and that makes us brothers and sisters in Christ. A big thanks to Far Thang, Ngun Chin, Michael Ceu, Par Chin Sung, and Sui Chin for translating for the Jesus parties. Join Us for Tea!
