Let us all rally under the banner of our lvng Lord, today. NORTH CENTRAL ASSOCATON The North Central Assocaton of Sev' enth Day Baptst Churches wll meet on October 7, 8, and 9 wth the Church at Farna, ll. Earl Cruzan, Secretary. TRUSTEESHP A trusteeshp s the assum pton of a solemn duty to admnster property for the beneft of another. s that not exactly the relatonshp each of us should assume toward hs money, tme, and talents f he truly wants to bear the name Chrstan? The wrter of ths comment feels very strongly upon ths subject. Prevous to hs servng n the armed servces he gave \.vhat he consdered he could to,-vard the support of the denomnaton and toward hs Church. Near the end of hs duty wth the armed servces he came to these conclusons: he was wllng to serve for several years n the armed servces; he had an allotment for War Bonds taken out of. hs monthly pay. What should he be wllng to do n behalf of the most worth, whle and constructve program n the world, namely. the support of hs denomnaton and hs Church? He came to the fnal determnaton that he should pledge a tenth toward the work of hs denomnaton and hs Church. (Parenthetcally, the wrter allocates two thrds of that tenth to hs Church and one thrd toward the support of the Denomnatonal Budget. A tthe s the least that God expects of us.) Further. he found that he could also help support the Second Century Fund. Has God faled hm? Never! The gver's ncome balance may not be large at the end of the month or \.veek, whchever pay perod he has, but God always helps the cheerful and fathful gver. Ths \.vrter learned early n lfe that money s n one sense "coned lfe." t hurts me to note that at the rate the Denomnatonal Budget s beng supported, we shall rase approxmately 80 per cent of t. s the Lord's work \.vorth only about four ffths of what \.ve have set as a aoal?. Let us pcture \.v here those funds ar~ beng expended and what work wll be left undone. Then let us answer the problem by fathfully supportng our de' nomnaton and Church budgets to the full. How does our stewardshp measure up to our professons and solemn promses? Does the support of my denomnaton and Church come frst or s t an afterthought? These are pognant questons whch re' qure honest, prayerful answers. -Contrbuted. The remt, ter's own subscrpton expraton date s promptly changed on the label, thus serv" lng as a recept for the remttance. Stllman's address - was delvered before the Seventh Day Baptst General Conference, North Loup, Neb.~ Thursday evenng, August 19, 1948, nstead of Tuesday mornng, August 17, 1948 as stated n the Sabbath Recorder ~ of August 30, 1948. SCRPTURE MEDTATONS By Rev. Elz.abeth F. Randolph At the openng of ths 136th sesson of the Seventh Day Baptst General Conference, t s fttng for us to read that passage of Scrpture from whch were chosen the three commandng words, ~'Go Work Today," Matthew 21: 28. Let us recall the occason. t was the day followng the trumphal entry of Jesus nto Jerusalem, the day followng the cleansng of the tern pe, when Jesus drove ou t the money changers and all them that sold and bought n the t-emple. Jesus had lodged n the cty of Bethany, n the home of Hs frends, Mary, Martha, and Laz.arus. Read Matthew 21: 18-32. What s the work we should do? We fnd our answer n the words of Jesus recorded n John 6: 27,29: "Labour not for the meat whch persheth, but for that meat whch endureth unto everlastng lfe, whch the Son of man shall gve unto you: for hm hath God the Father sealed. Then sad they unto hm, What shall we do that we mght work the works of God? Jesus answered and sad unto them, Ths s the work of God, that ye beleve on hm whom he hath sent." Ths work has challenged us to draw near to Chrst that we mght know Hm, beleve on Hm, abde wth Hm, and do all thngs whatsoever He would have us do. Chrst has spoken to us as ndvduals and as groups: '~Go to the lost sheep of the house of srael, and as ye go preach sayng, The kngdom of heaven s at hand. Heal the sck, cleanse the lepers, rase the dead, cast out devls; freely ye have receved, freely gve." Among the many, many thngs that we have freely receved s God's Holy Sabbath day. Due to the profound value of ths Holy Sabbath, we ha ve gone ths year to those who ha v.e wandered away nto communtes where lt s not the custom to remember that the seventh day s the Sabbath. We have sought out these lost ones. We have restored some to ther hertage. We have rejoced n the establshment of new cen' ters of worshp on God's Holy Sabbath day. We have heard Jesus say, UGo to my brethren, and say unto them, ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and to your God." John 20: 17. We serve a rsen Savour, a Savour who conquered death, and we trumphantly rejoce \vth Paul as we echo hs words, ~~Thanks be to God, whch gveth us the vctory through our Lord Jesus Chrst." 1 Cornthans 15: 57. We have heard. the rsen Savour say, "Go ye therefore,' and teach all natons, baptz.ng them n the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teachng them to observe all thngs whatsoever have commanded you: and, 10, am wth you alway, even unto the end of the world." Matthew 28: 19, 20. And to us ths rsen Savour has sad, ULovest thou me, feed my sheep.... Follow me." As we realze that ths means death of self, we look upon another one whom Jesus loves, and we ask, as Peter dd when he saw John followng, HAnd what shall ths man do?" Then Jesus says to us as He dd to Peter, HWhat s that to thee? follow thou me_" There s work for each and every one to do. "Lead on, 0 Kng Eternal." North Loup, Neb., August 16, 1948. NSTEAD OF EASE By Verna Loveday Harden "nt'tead of ease," tle young men say, Though scarcely aware that they say t, "Gve us somethng to work for_ "There was a long, weary battle And we stayed wth t to the end. Now t s over, Our feet run errands, Our hands are occuped wth smal1 chores, And our sprts wthout drecton. 114 1 1 ~..., God workng n these yo\lng people and to watch them grow durng the bref campng perod. Junor Camp Junor cam p opened on July 25, 1948. Twenty~two campers came and the week was off to a good start; frst, nstructons about rules of camp were gven, and then bunk assgnments. The same program was followed as n the ntermedate camp, but on a level that the younger ones could understand. All enjoyed the week and returned home wshng they could have stayed longer. On Wednesday nght of each week we had parents' nght, n whch the parents of the boys and grls came out to the camp to enjoy the evenng wth ther chldren. n the ntermedate camp there were ffty~eght campers and parents, and n the junor camp there were ffty~fve campers and parents. Durng the course of two weeks at camp, sckness took a heavy toll of cooks, so t was necessary to use twelve cooks to carry on the cookng part of the camp. We were never wthout a meal, but at tmes we wondered who was gong to get the next one, but God suppled all our needs. The cam ps reached out nto about thrty homes outsde our own Church. Eght campers came from Whte Cloud and surroundng area. The summer has been one of seed sowng for God, and now t s the duty of all Churches to brng n the harvest whch God has gven them. 116 CHLDREN'S PAGE THE LOST RNG One beautful summer day, the very frst day of June, lttle Dorothy Baker came skppng down the stars before breakfast, sngng happly, "'rm eght years old. And what does my bg glrl want for her brthday gft?" as he put her n Mother's lap for the brthday kss. "'Most of all. want a real gold nng, wth a pretty blue stone," cred the lttle grl. Daddy and Mother both laughed mer' rly as Dorothy started to take her place at the table. When she pulled out her char, she had to jump rght up and down, she was so happy, for there lay a pretty new dress and coat, and on top of them sat a cunnng golden, hared, blue' eyed dolly. Best of all, n the dolly's lap was a tny whte box, and n the box she found a lovely gold rng. " Oh. oh!" she exclamed, Hwhat a lovely rng! And 1 never dd see such a pretty. pretty hlue stone. " When she slpped the rng on her fnger her mother sad... t s a lttle large~ dear, so you must be very car~ful not to lose t."... Oh! 1 surely wll be careful. could not bear to lose my pretty rng." Then she dropped her eyes and blushed when she saw Mother and Daddy smle at each other. Now Dorothy had one bad fault-she was always losng thngs, often her most tee's treasurer. Ben R. Both Mother and Daddy had tred hard to cure her of ths fault, but wth very lttle success. t was hard for the lttle grl to fnsh her breakfast ths mornng. though t was a specal brthday breakfast, just the thn~s she lked best, for she could hardly walt to show her presents to her playmates.... Brng your rng n and put t away before you go to school," sad her mot~er as Dorothy started off wth a hop, skp, and jump. Hyou mght lose t n your play.,.... All rght:' sad Dorothy, and she meant to keep her word; but t took so long to show her gfts to all her frends that the frst bell rang for school befor~ she knew how late t was. "We'11 te ths to your. nn~, and fasten t to your wrst. Then t wlll be hard for the rng to get away. f t does. you can fnd t by the brght strng." Dorothy held her hand very stll w~le Mss Davs ted on the rng. From tme to tme, as she was busy wth her lessons, she slpped her rng round and round on her fnger, gradually loosenng the kn?t at her wrst, although she dd not know t. On her way home at noon she stopped near her own home to pck June roses from a tangle of bushes near a bg oak tree. She had flled her hands full of roses untl her rng and even the brght strng were almost hdden from sght. As she stooped to pck one more blossom she caught her sleeve on the bushes and all her roses slpped from her hands. At the same tme, off slpped her rng, brg~t strng and all. At frst she dd not mlss t but when she dd she sad,... know t~s rght here. saw t just as began to pck flowers., But although wth the help of many of her schoolmates she searched carefully everywhere, not a trace of rng or strng could be found, and the poor chld was almost heartbroken. She kept sayng over and over agan,... t s my own fault! Oh! f could only fnd my pretty rng, don"t thnk would ever be so careless agan. " For days the chldren dd not gve up lookng for her treasure, for all were very sorry for her. But t was gone. Many weeks after that a heavy wnd storm came up and many large branches were broken from the bg oak tree. The day after the storm. Dorothy was helpng her father pck up the branches that were scattered over the yard, when she found a brd's nest. As she held t n her hands, her eyes opened wde wth surprse and JOY, and she shouted. ""Daddy! Oh Daddy! Look at ths!'" Wound n and out on each sde of the nest was a brght red strng, and hangng to t was her precous gold rng. How Dorothy and her father dd laugh. "Mss Davs sad the red strng would help me fnd my rng, and t dd. The brds can have all the red strng they want, but they'll never get hold of my pretty rng agan." And they never dd. M. S. G.
