MAZEL TOV: Rabbi Kalman and Rucha Baumann on the birth of a grandson to their children Sara Malka and Yaakov Wagner. SAVE THE DATE!!! Yeshiva Toras Chaim/ Toras Emes 8th Annual Chinese Auction Sunday, May 6, 2012 FAMILY FUN DAY We were so happy to see the vast majority of our Toras Emes families represented at Toras Emes this past Sunday, and we derived much nachas watching everyone enjoy a totally Family Fun Day! The delicious food was devoured down to the very last morsel and the rides and activities were enjoyed by all. An event of such great caliber does not happen by itself. A tremendous amount of effort and energy went into the day s preparations and programming. Our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation is first and foremost extended to Mrs. Karen Berger and Mrs. Helene Gassner, the organizers of Family Fun Day, who devoted many weeks of hard work and Mesiras Nefesh to insure that this year s Fun Day would be great! It could not have taken place without their efforts. Under the best of circumstances, the preparation, management and administration of this day is quite an undertaking, unless of course, the host school (in this case Toras Emes), is blessed with the number and quality of volunteers, who assisted in the project. We would like to thank all of our energetic and diligent on-site volunteers. who handled food sales and set up with great enthusiasm and efficiency. Last, but certainly not least, everyone who came forward to volunteer throughout the day helped us immeasurably, and we are truly grateful to the volunteers, family members and friends who worked continuously throughout the day. NURSERY I & II MOROT ETTIE & TAMI Mishenichnas Adar Marbin B Simcha When Adar Comes We Are Full Of Joy. As the yeladim in the Nursery continue to prepare for the Yom Tov of Purim, they are becoming more and more eager for the arrival of this fun holiday. In honor of the arrival of Rosh Chodesh Adar, we made a mazal dagim sign. We continued learning about the story of Purim, started working on our megillos, and learned to distinguish between a Sefer Torah and a megillah. Many new Purim songs were taught to the children. We also listened to several stories about Purim such as The Hamentaschen That Ran Away by C. Halpern and Round And Round The Jewish Year by Tziporah Rosenberg. For Parashas Terumah, we learned that the Mishkan was like a travelling Shul and that it was built with contributions from Klal Yisroel. We also looked at pictures of the menorah, the shulchan, the mizbeach and the aron kodesh. We look forward to seeing you at our Purim programs next week. NURSERY I & II MOROT NECHAMA & SUSAN In continuation of our unit on Our Neighborhood, we talked about the concept of sharing. Some children share bedrooms with their siblings and others have their own rooms. The children drew pictures of themselves sleeping in their beds, depicted their neighborhoods on the classroom bulletin boards and created easel paintings of their neighborhoods. Pictures of a police station and a school were added to the bulletin board this week. The library center featured many books about different neighborhoods. We listened to the stories Get Out Of Bed by Robert Munsch, Ira Sleeps Over by Bernard Waber and A House Is A House For Me by Mary Ann Hoberman. In conjunction with our unit on Our Neighborhood, the children dressed as policemen, doctors, firemen and postal carriers. They also created pretend police tickets. Newsletter 2

PRE-KI & II MOROT ETTIE & HEIDI The happiness of Purim approaching can be seen in our classes! We are learning about the story of Purim and are busy transforming our rooms into Shushan HaBirah. We are so excited to begin making our Purim projects! Some of our Purim phrases we learned this week are: הנה מלך הנה מלכה הנה משלוח מנות הנה רעשן הנה מגילה איפה הרעשן? איפה המגילה? יש לי רעשן יש לי מגילה יש לי משלוח מנות מרדכי היהודי המן הרשע This week s parsha is Parashas Terumah. B nei Yisroel gave terumos-contributions to Moshe Rabbeinu in order to build the Mishkan. We learned about the different types of contributions and talked about the importance of the Mishkan for B nei Yisroel. We also learned that since B nei Yisroel were traveling through the midbar, it was necessary for the Mishkan to be easily taken apart and put back together. We looked at pictures of the Mishkan in the book The Tabernacle by Moshe Levine to get a better understanding of how the Mishkan was constructed. We also talked about the Lechem Hapanim and how it was fresh all week long. The letter Samech was introduced this week. Some of the vocabulary words that the children learned were: PRE-KI & II-MORAH JUDY This week, the Pre-K children continued their Under The Sea unit. They explored the wonders of the sea. They chose their favorite under the sea creatures to decorate. Some amazing fish that we looked at were puffer fish, a fish that protects its babies by holding them in her mouth and then blows them out, a fish that looks like it has two sets of eyes that are really just a pattern and a fish with legs. Those are just a few of the many fish that we learned about under the sea. Letter Hh continued to be the focus of our week s activities. The children enjoyed reading stories about horses, houses, hamsters, hyenas and hippos. A favorite rhyme was Hey Diddle, Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle. This week, the Pre-K children practiced writing their names correctly using upper and lower case letters. They are also beginning to recognize their friends names as well. סביבון סבא סבתא סוס ספר סכין סדור סבון Have a wonderful Sabbos! Newsletter 3

KINDERGARTEN I, II & III-MOROT BAYLA AND RENA Purim preparations are in high gear. The fascinating Megillah story continues to unfold. We worked on our megillos, made beautiful masks and listened to the story Tova And Esty s Purim Surprise by Judith Belsky. We discussed the mitzvos of Purim and of course, worked on our Purim presentations. The Purim craft workshops for Kindergarten II and III were lots of fun. We enjoyed singing our Purim songs and creating beautiful graggers. We practiced our Purim vocabulary words. Some of the phrases that we worked on were: הנה רעשן הנה מגילה יש לי רעשן יש לי מגילה הנה מלך הנה מלכה The yeladim are continuing to work in their alefbeis books as they practice combining the ottiyos and nekudos that have been taught until now. Parashas Terumah taught us about the concept of the Mishkan. We learned about the shulchan, the menorah and the aron. We heard how the kaylim were made from the many materials that Bnei Yisroel contributed to the Mishkan. We learned what the shulchan was used for and about the loaves of bread which stayed fresh from one Erev Shabbos to the next. We heard how the aron consisted of three boxes that fit one into the other. The children were very interested in the keruvim which looked like angels with faces of children. We also looked at the pictures of the kaylim in the book The Tabernacle by Moshe Levine. In Project Derech, we learned that it is a mitzvah to ask permission before leaving the presence of a parent. KINDERGARTEN I, II & III MOROT BERNEY & HEIDI We really had a wonderful week introducing the letter Rr in our rooms! We had rolling races and played Red Light, Green Light in the playground. The children worked in their Rr letterbooks creating rainbows, riddles and rhyming words. They made rabbits with cotton balls and even wrote a little story about them. What fun they had running races and learning how to do the right thing. In Social Studies, we completed our unit on George Washington and learned that our capital is named in his honor. We were fascinated to learn how George Washington together with Betsy Ross created the first U.S. flag. Midweek, George Washington took a back seat as Abraham Lincoln moved to center stage. The children looked at a map of the United States and were shown how our country expanded westward. They studied the map and learned where the thirteen original states were, and saw that by the time Abraham Lincoln was born, our country had grown to eighteen states. The highlight of our week, of course, was our 100 s Day Party. We started counting on our very first day of school and continued till the hundredth day of school which was on Tuesday of this week. All of the 100 s day posters that the children made are fantastic and they are very excited to display their individual posters. Each one is different and a masterpiece. Thank you to all of the parents who helped their children with their special 100 s day project and for supplying all the treats for the parties. Kindergarten Garden update: Our radishes have begun to sprout! Just in time for the letter Rr! Newsletter 4
