We also explained that if we have done something that wasn t kind (such as taking a toy away from our friends or not sharing our toys with our brothers or sisters) or if we haven t listened to our Mummies and Daddies, we have to say sorry before Yom Kippur and promise to be kind and listen nicely from now on. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT TIME! Tuesday: We continued teaching the children about Yom Kippur and the story of Yonah, which teaches us that you can't run away from Hashem, and that Hashem always likes to hear us say sorry even if you have done silly or naughty things. We told them about Yonah, who was told by Hashem to go to Nineveh and teach the people there to do Teshuva (say sorry) otherwise Hashem will destroy the city. Yonah didn t want to go, and tried to run away from Hashem by going on a boat. On the way a great storm arises, tossing the ship about. Yonah is thrown into the sea and he is swallowed by a whale, where he davens to Hashem and is forgiven. The whale spits out Yonah and he goes to Nineveh and tells the people Hashem's message. They listen to Yonah and do Teshuva. To carry on the story, the children coloured in pictures of Yonah and the whale. Show and Tell Tuesday! First up we had Yirmiyah it s a boat. That is that and it s pink, GREAT JOB YIRMIYA!! Then we had Yael it s a book. It s mine. The dinosaur says roar - WE ALL LAUGHED WITH YOU Page 2 of 6

WELL DONE GABRIEL! The children s confidence and speech is growing each week. Thank you to all those Mummies and Daddies who help their little ones bring in Show and Tell each week - your children love standing up in front of their friends to show them their toys as you can see by their happy faces! Wednesday: On Wednesday we told the children that there is another Yom Tov coming up next week Succos! During Succos we remember when Hashem freed us from slavery in Egypt. After the Jewish People left Egypt, they wandered for forty years in the desert before they reached the Promised Land of Israel. Along their way during these forty years, they built temporary homes out of dry palms and branches. Each hut was a succah. We explained to the children that we eat (and some people sleep in the succah) for seven days to remind us of their journey and how the Jewish People relied on Hashem to help them. The children were very excited to make their own Succah by sticking ice lolly sticks on to the paper for the succah walls and sticking leaves as the schach. We told them that there is no roof on the succah and if Page 3 of 6
they look up towards the sky they should be able to see the starts through the leaves! The children are all so excited to sit in their succahs!!!! We had lots of fun with our plush lulav and esrog. When we asked the children what they were so many children said the lulav was a branch! WHAT CLEVER CHILDREN WE HAVE! Yes, the lulav is a branch from a palm tree and the esrog smells like a lemon. The children learnt that we make a brocho over the lulav and esrog and then shake them both in several directions. THIS WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK!!! The children shook the lulav and esrog so hard and fast, and in so many directions!!! We also sang a song about shaking the lulav and Esrog (to the tune of take me out to the ball game ) Shake, shake shake the lulav, And it s one, two, three hadassim Along with the esrog too, And two aravos. To give you an insight into more of our week, we want to tell you about our phonics session. Every afternoon we sit down and learn our letters. We write each letter on the whiteboard and ask the children what letter it is. We then ask them what word/animal/toy begins with that letter and then sing it all together. We are so amazed at how quickly the children learning to do BOTH!!! If you ask your children what a is for they will be able to tell you! WELL DONE CHILDREN. YOU ARE ALL DOING SO WELL. Thursday: Today we had our second birthday of the week. HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY SUMMER! You sang I am three years old so beautifully and your teachers were so proud of you! You were so excited for your birthday sweetie. We hope you had a wonderful day. Thank you also for bringing in a delicious cake for your friends. Have a wonderful year ahead sweetie xx Thursday is our French with Monsieur Leon. The children revised their greetings, starting with Monsieur Leon,(Hello Mr Leon); Ca va- how are you? Oui ca va bien( yes I m fine thank you). The children are learning to follow simple instructions in French which they found to be a lot of fun and there were lots of Page 5 of 6
giggles- Croisez les bras (fold your arms); mettez les mains sur la tete (put your hands on your head); Mettez les mais sur les epaules (put your hands on your shoulders). Monsieur Leon sang Freres Jacques and the children all joined in with the actions, especially the ding dang dong of the bells! Many of them were singing along too! Then Monsieur Leon taught the song, Sur le pont D avignon and explained le pont is a bridge. We ended with the greetings with au revoir les enfants and the children answered au revoir Monsieur Leon.
