Is There Blood In Your Sanctuary? Blood was an important symbol in the sanctuary in Israel. It was a symbol of the sacrifice that Christ would give for the remission and cleansing of the sins of His people. Each day the priests would make a morning sacrifice and take a portion of that blood into the Holy place of the sanctuary and sprinkle it upon the curtain or veil that separated the two compartments. Each evening this service would be repeated and again the blood of the sacrifice would be brought into the Holy place and some of the blood would be sprinkled on the separating curtain dividing the Holy place from the Most Holy place. However, once a year on the tenth day of the seventh month, known to the Israelites as Tishri 10 according to the Jewish calendar, the Jews were to observe what was called the annual Day of Atonement. (See the ancient Jewish calendar on page 2) This annual Day of Atonement was for the entire nation of Israel. On this day a special sacrifice was made for the cleansing of the sanctuary. This ceremony would signify the removal or cleansing of all sin that had been transferred to the sanctuary by the people during the year. This was an important day also for each individual, in that each person in the entire nation was to search his own heart for any unconfessed sin so that the sin could be done away with then and there, completely. One of the important differences in the ceremonious sense was that the blood of the sacrifice was brought into the Most Holy place and the High priest would sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat which was on the Ark of the Covenant, the very dwelling place of Jehovah. (Exodus 25:22, 37:1-9, Psalm 99:1, Hebrews 9:24) The question is what did this blood represent? The blood was a reminder of the price Christ would pay for the forgiveness of the sins of His people. The Bible is very specific about what the blood represents. Deuteronomy 12:23 tells us, the blood is the life. Genesis 9:4 says, But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. In these verses, God is giving us a command about not eating blood and He is very clear about the blood being the life of the creature. (See also Leviticus 17:11, 14) Therefore, we can see that the very life of our Savior was shed for us when He died on Calvary, and Christ s very life is presented on our behalf to His Father in Heaven as He intercedes for us. In Matthew 20:28 Jesus said, Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Today, we know that Christ is in heaven. But what about those of us who are living here and now? How do we benefit today by Christ s ministering for us? 1Corinthians 3:16 states, 1

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If we are today a living temple, or sanctuary of the Living God who dwells in us, then we need the blood or the Life of Jesus in us to be our mediator or minister for us now. The more we realize our sin and our sinful nature the more we understand the need for the very life of Christ to be in us and to dwell in us. This life of Christ is a spiritual life that can be given to us. That s why Christ told us in John 6:63, It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Again, we read in 1Corinthians 15:45 that Christ is made a life giving spirit for us. Notice Paul s words, And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Friends, this is how we have the spiritual blood, or the life of Christ applied to us directly in our body which is the sanctuary that God has created us with. Christ is our mediator who lives within us so that our Heavenly Father may dwell with us also. This is how Christ is cleansing our sanctuary! What a tremendous gift from God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ! Rick Tyler, POH. 2

Questions from the POH Mailbox Can you explain Psalm 110:1, The LORD said unto my Lord? Psalm 110:1 says; The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. (King James Version) In this text please notice that the LORD (all capitalized) was speaking to the Lord (capital L lower case o-r-d). The word, or title, LORD in the all capital form is used in the King James Version (and many other Bible translations) to denote the Divine name of God. Nearly 1,900 years ago, the Jewish leaders stopped pronouncing the Divine name because of superstition. Biblical Hebrew was written without vowels. For this reason, there is no way to be precise about how the patriarchs and prophets of ancient times pronounced the four Hebrew consonants, יהוה which make up the Divine name. These consonants translated into English are YHWH. In the Old Testament when you see the word LORD in all capital letters, this is where the four Hebrew consonants יהוה appear in the ancient manuscripts. This is known by scholars and to Jewish people as the Tetragrammaton. God s name in this form appears over 6820 times in the Old Testament. The Hebrew language is written and read from right to left, not from left to right as the English language. (See example on page 4) Some scholars suggest that God s name may have been pronounced Yahweh, but they cannot be sure. The English pronunciation Jehovah has been in use for centuries and its equivalent in many languages is widely accepted today. The Divine name Jehovah can be found in the Authorized King James Version of the Bible in the following texts, Psalm 83:18, Exodus 6:3, Isaiah 12:2 & Isaiah 26:4. As for the title Lord (capital L lower case ord ) in Psalm 110:1, this is the Hebrew word Adon which is the root word and singular form of the word Adonai. The word Adonai denotes a relationship in which one is in submission to another. It also has the connotation of one being in possession of another. In Hebrew, Adonai can be defined as God s total possession or my total submission. Adonai also conveys the meaning of master. This goes along with Proverbs 8:22, 30. (NKJV) Now that we understand this, let s take a look at the text in Psalm 110:1 again. The passage reads, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. (King James Version) It s obvious that one was speaking to another. In this text, the LORD, Jehovah, was speaking to the Lord, Jesus! Notice how the Living Bible of 1971 by Tyndale Publishing words this verse; Jehovah said to my Lord the Messiah, Rule as my regent I will subdue your enemies and make them bow low before you. 3

It s amazing that even the Jews of Jesus day believed Psalm 110:1 was Messianic. With what we understand today, we can clearly see that this is a prophecy about God the Father putting all things, or authority, under His only begotten Son Jesus. In fact, this prophecy is the most quoted verse in the Bible, being quoted in part or in full at least 25 times! Some references are more subtle than others but, here are a few places where you can find it in Scripture; Matthew 22:44, Mark 12:36, Luke 20:22-23, Acts 2:33-35, 1Corinthians 15:24-28, Ephesians 1:22, Hebrews 1:13, Hebrews 10:12-13, 1Peter 3:22. Perhaps in your personal study you can take time to find each reference to this wonderful prophecy! It s unfortunate that the Divine name Jehovah has been replaced by the impersonal title LORD in most Bibles. However, there are several Bible translations which have restored the Divine name Jehovah back to where it was when these things were originally written. The following is an example of the Tetragrammaton. H W H Y H W H Y The Divine name in the ancient Hebrew letters used before the Babylonian exile. The Divine name in the ancient Hebrew letters used after the Babylonian exile. Mark Martin, POH. Is there a Bible question you would like to have answered but have hesitated to ask? Shared Testimony It was about 8 o clock one evening, and I had just finished a phone conversation with Mark and Rick. I sat down in the living room and began to think about my involvement with the Prophecies of Hope team, and how I have enjoyed the fellowship of our small group. The time spent together reading and discussing God s word, and praying together. The genuine love and respect shown to each when there are differences of opinions, and the deep desire to follow God s leading in our small ministry. I had learned a lot through a more intense study of God s word, but yet, I felt like something was still missing. As I was sitting there thinking, the words of the angel to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2 came to my mind. "I know your works, and your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you tested those who say that they are apostles and they are not, and you found them to be liars; and you have endurance and you have born patiently on account of My name, and you did not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. (Revelation 2:2-4, EMTV) My First Love Growing up in a Christian home I can remember, even at a very young age, having an intimate relationship with Jesus. In the process of growing and maturing into adulthood and beyond, there would be times of greater closeness to Jesus than others. At times the world would pull me away from Christ promising things that I thought would bring happiness into my life, only to discover the heartache and reality that living in a sinful world brings. It seems like it was not that long ago that I came to a more complete understanding of the gospel story through the study of Romans 5: 6-8. These verses tell us that God loved us so much that He sent his Son Jesus to die in our place, not when we were good enough, not when we were able to keep His commandments, but when were sinners who lacked the strength to obey Him. You see God did not send Jesus to die for us when we were at our best, but when we were at our worst. This gift of God s Son to us is totally free. You cannot buy, you cannot earn it, you cannot reimburse God for it, you can only choose whether or not to accept it. And if you chose to accept it, and begin a relationship with Jesus, He will change who you are and give you the power to overcome sin in your life. And that is a peace that the world cannot give to you. Could it be that in our quest for discovering who God is and what the Bible teaches about the times we are living in, that we have forgotten our first love? Do we not see that Jesus coming to this earth to live and die for us is the greatest possible expression of God s love for us? That even now Jesus is representing us before God as our high priest, speaking our names before God, yet how often are we speaking His name to those around us? Do we not understand that Christ s life here on this earth was in part, to allow us to know who God the Father is? Did not Jesus say that He only did and spoke those that that His Father told Him? Did He not tell Philip that he who has seen Jesus has seen the Father? Did not God give Christ the highest place of honor, sitting on the right side of His throne? Should we not do the same in our hearts? Do not the heavenly hosts love to sing praises to the Lamb of God? Should we not also? 5

Have we been so busy studying the scriptures that we lose sight of the fact that the scriptures testify of Jesus? Have we like the builders of the temple, rejected or put aside the cornerstone, which is Jesus Christ? Did not Jesus say that the Gospel would be preached to all the world and then the end would come? The Gospel is the story of God s love for us through the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus. As I sat there in my living room with all these scriptures coming to my mind, I realized that what I was missing was first love, my relationship with Jesus and the Gospel story. As I was processing all of this in my mind, I began to feel my heart burn within me, as did the followers of Christ on the road to Emmaus. I once again had a feeling of completeness and peace that only Jesus can give. Ed Short, POH. Healthy Living Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. The adage Use it or lose it seems to apply not merely to the muscles in our body but also to the mind. Although aging is accompanied by some forgetfulness, studies show that it doesn t matter what your age, people can continue to have extremely rewarding and healthy mental lives. Did you know that the brain consists of at least 100 billion brain cells, or neurons, and trillions of connections between them? These connections can be likened to telephone lines enabling neurons to talk to one another to create, among other things, memory. As the brain ages, neurons die. Yet, older brains are able to compensate for neuron losses. Whenever a neuron falls silent, its neighbors respond by making new connections to other neurons and taking on the work load of the lost neuron. That way, the brain actually shifts responsibility for a given task from one region to another. Therefore, many older people accomplish the same mental tasks as younger people, but research shows that they may use different parts of the brain to do so. In some respects, an older brain acts a bit like an older tennis player who compensates for his dwindling speed by resorting to skills that younger players may lack. Yet, despite using techniques different from those of his juniors, the older player still scores. It s no wonder that the Psalmist said; I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:14 English Standard Version) In order to keep our brains working well as we get older, we need mental exercise which keeps the brain s telephone lines alive. As most of us know, mental decline starts when people retire and decide to take things easy. The good news is, we can modify what we do with our time and actually enhance our capacity to have improved mental health even as we get older. This is good reason to keep our minds active by continuously learning. Daily Bible reading is a great way to keep our minds focused on positive things no matter what our age. Mark Martin, POH. 6

POH Update The Prophecies of Hope team has been truly blessed by our Heavenly Father! Prophecies of Hope has just finished 3 Bible prophecy series in Virginia, one in Winchester, one in Woodstock and one in Harrisonburg. All of them were a great success! Mark preached 4 nights at each location. The presentations were presented to the Spanish community in each town. Pastor Orlando Newball translated into Spanish as Mark presented in English. During the 3 series, Spanish Bibles were distributed to those who didn t have a Bible and the attendees were provided with Bible study guides to go along with each lecture. Over 100 people heard the messages and several Bible studies are continuing! Pastor Newball is very interested in outreach to the community and several from the community who were present during the series are taking an interest in coming to church! Pastor Newball has asked POH to present a complete evangelistic series in Harrisonburg later this year. Fall Evangelism This October 20-25, 2014, Prophecies of Hope will hold a Bible prophecy series at Preston Yancey Fire Department in Fishersville Virginia. We will disclose the titles of the topics in our next newsletter. Also, Mark will be traveling to New York City to work with Brother Jason Hovey in reaching out to the Muslim community. Brother Jason has a powerful presentation regarding Islam in Bible Prophecy. This message has been very effective in reaching the Muslim people with the truth of the One True God and His Son Jesus Christ! Mark and Rick recorded 3 radio programs with Jason and he shared the prophecies of Daniel 11, Revelation 9 and Joel 2 regarding Muslims in the Bible. These programs can be heard on the New Visions Radio network at www.newvisionsradio.com and they will be archived on the Prophecies of Hope website. Bible Study Materials and Outreach We at Prophecies of Hope have been working toward writing and publishing our own Bible study guides. This is a tremendous task, and the cost of printing can be excessive. When a few POH supporters heard what we wanted to do, the donations came in to cover the full purchase price of the printing machine in just one week! Our Heavenly Father has provided POH with a printing press for books, publications, study guides, handbills, etc. We want to thank all who have contributed to POH for your generous donations which are being used to further the True Gospel both locally and abroad!
