Wesley United Methodist Church 2200 Phoenix, Fort Smith, AR 72901 www.wesleyumcfs.org September 2018 Stronger Together There is no such thing as a solitary Christian - John Wesley Faith is intrinsically communal. We are all better in life when we live life as part of the community of faith. We are absolutely better together. I have experienced joy this past month in seeing our church work together in mission and ministry. It has been wonderful seeing the people of Wesley work alongside the folks of Cavanaugh. The blessing box ministry and generous farmers from the farmers market is nothing short of amazing. At Parrot Island Water Park, our churches joined together to feed and register 950 people who showed up from our community. 950! WOW. Our churches might be smaller than some but I am confident we are mighty. I want to thank you all for your kindness and generosity to myself and my family as we transition into this faith community. I have so enjoyed meeting many people and look forward to continuing to get to know each of you. I believe our potential to grow and flourish as a church is tied to our willingness to work towards unity among us. This is not a call to all think and act the same, rather, it is a willingness to cling to our common good while being content to set aside our differences. This is my hope for Wesley. This past month has yielded some significant events within my family. Andrea had a successful surgery. She now has a spinal cord stimulator implant which holds the potential for significant pain relief and the possibility of her regaining an active and healthy life. Zebediah was selected to represent the Midwest Region baseball team at the USA Baseball National Talent Identification Series in Cary, NC. He competed there for a week and competed in an outstanding fashion. Rosalie made a travel soccer team with RVFC out of Ben Geren. I am who I am, in part, because of my wonderful family. I am so proud of them all. I want to thank everyone who stepped up financially to help cover the $5,800.00 expense for AC repair. Your generosity and faithfulness is outstanding. Thank you. Keep the Faith Strong, -Rev. Zeke Allen

Greetings!!! Greetings, Wesley Family! I hope that you have been enjoying the variety of music that we have been offering lately. We have a great amount of talent in our church, and it is always a blessing when members of our church share that talent. If you have a song, musical piece, or something else to share that would add to our worship, please get with me and we will find a time to include you in one of our services. We have added several new members to our Chancel choir and our Bell choir. A special "Thank you!" goes out to all of these new members who have added so greatly to our sound and our musicianship! You all are truly a blessing!!!! I also hope that you are enjoying the beautiful music that Mary Beth has been providing for us. Mary Beth is a great addition to our music program and our church, and I believe that I can speak for both myself and my choir when I say that we love that she is here. She is such a joy to work with!!! We will have a choir camp on Saturday, September 8 from 9:00 to 12:00 to go through as much of our cantata as we can. So make sure you save the date, Chancel Choir members!!! There is a lot of great music to look forward to as we continue our Together sermon series and then begin the transition into Advent! Yours in Christ, Shane Sanderson If you would like to sing in our Christmas Cantata, even if you aren t in the choir on a regular basis, please come to Choir Camp September 8th.
