WELCOME TO THE JOURNEY! Thank you for choosing to worship with us today! As a church family, we are determined to come alongside of you to enable you to become all that God wants you to be. Every person s life story is different but every life story has a purpose that contributes to making God s church that much more relevant in this world. So no matter where you are in life right now, we want to help you figure out where you are in your journey with God. Hopefully you will find a place here to grow in your faith and serve our God together. Our mission is... LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS, LOVE THE WORLD At the Journey, we are focused on making disciples, whose love for Jesus impacts their love for each other and their love for the world. Our vision is to be a multi-cultural, outreach-oriented, grace-filled church that has fallen in love with God, His Word, and with each other. A place where authentic and relevant praise happens naturally as an expression of our love for God. Where people are being equipped to grow into disciples of Jesus who are making an impact on the world around them. MISSIONS (LOCAL) JOURNEY GARDEN So far this summer, the Journey Garden has donated almost 1,700 pounds of vegetables! Last week, the Food Providers Network came to visit our garden to learn about what we do and how we to run our garden. They are an organization made up of all of the area food banks to learn from each other and create opportunities for coordination among providers. They are hoping that they can implement our program elsewhere to help other area food banks supply more fresh vegetables to people in need. Thank you all for your support of our garden! SERVE JOURNEY KIDS GREETERS WANTED! Greeting new and returning families at our Journey Kids check-in lobby is a great way to get to know people and help them feel welcome. Greeters stay in the Journey Kids before and during services, making sure kids are checked in and out correctly and to be available to help late comers or other situations that may arise. A few requirements are that you are friendly and enjoy helping people! Contact Michelle if interested, michelle@thejourneynova.org, or pick up an application. We can always use more volunteers for other areas of Journey Kids, as well. If you are interested in serving in Journey Kids, from babies to 6th graders, from teaching to prepping, your talents are needed! Contact Michelle about where you might be able to serve, michelle@thejourneynova.org.

SERMON NOTES OCTOBER 2, 2016 Awakening Intro Matthew 26:36-38 (NLT), "Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, Sit here while I go over there to pray. He took Peter and Zebe- dee s s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. " Matthew 26:40a (NLT), "Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep..." Matthew 26:40b-41 (NLT), "He said to Peter, Couldn Couldn t t you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is will- ing, but the body is weak Matthew 26:45-46 (MSG), "When he came back the next time, he said, Are you going to sleep on and make a night of it? My time is up, the Son of Man is about to be handed over to the hands of sinners. Get up! Let s s get going! My betrayer is here. " Acts 2:38, "Peter replied, Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. " Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NCV), " Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me! I will let you find me, says the Lord. And I will bring you back from your captivity. "
SERMON NOTES OCTOBER 2, 2016 James 4:7-8 (NCV), "So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you. Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure Ephesians 4:17-20a (MSG), "And so I insist and God backs me up on this that that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They ve refused for so long to deal with God that they ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself. They can t t think straight anymore. Feeling no pain, they let themselves go in sexual obses- sion, addicted to every sort of perversion. But that s s no life for you." Ephesians 5:14-16 (CEV), " Wake up from your sleep and rise from death. Then Christ will shine on you. Act like people with good sense and not like fools. These are evil times, so make every minute count." 1) God s not surprised. He knows and understands where we re at. 2) Our drifting...dozing...sleeping...doesn t have to define us. 3) God isn't sleeping. He is ready and eager to meet us in whatever kind of awakening we need. Psalm 121:1-4 (MSG), "I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from moun- tains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won t t let you stumble; your Guardian God won t t fall asleep. Not on your life! Is- rael s Guardian will never doze or sleep." Reflection...
