September 24, 2017 A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR This weekend our parish welcomes Bishop DiMarzio who will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of St. Saviour High School with us at our 5:00 p.m. Celebration of Eucharist. TODAY our children s Faith Formation Program begins its new year. It is IMPERATIVE that if your child(ren) do not attend one of our Catholic Academies, then they MUST attend Faith Formation classes throughout the year so that they might not only prepare to receive the Sacraments but even more importantly that they might grow in their relationship with the Lord. Please bear in mind that one s faith-formation is a life-long process not something we do only when we want to receive a sacrament. The church is not a vending machine! That it why it is so important that our children attend Faith formation Classes from Kindergarten onward. If anyone has any questions about our children s Faith formation Program, or to register your child, please call Sister Pat, our Director of children s Faith Formation, at the Faith Formation Office in the Rectory the number there is (718) 768-4055. Also TODAY at our 9:30 a.m. Family Mass, we will celebrate Catechist Sunday. We are thankful for all the women and men from our parish family who have volunteered their time and talent this year in sharing their faith with our young people. We are blessed in that we have a great group of Catechists. Each of them will be recognized and commissioned today at our Family Mass. Next Sunday we celebrate a Rite of Enrollment for ALL children both in our Faith Formation Program and Saint Saviour Catholic Academy who are finalizing their preparations to receive the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation. Please remember these girls and boys in your prayers. Please join us next Sunday, October 1st, for our Ministry Fair. ALL the members of our Parish Family are invited downstairs to the Parish Hall to check out the many ministries offered here at Saint Saviour Parish, If anyone would like to assist us with our Ministry Fair, please contact Geri Anne O Beirne in the Rectory during the week. A NOTE FROM FR. MUPRHY Dear Friends, It seems like so long ago that I last wrote to you. And it seems like so long ago since I ve last seen you. As some of you may remember, in the summer of 2014 I met with Bishop DiMarzio to inform him that regretfully I no longer had the energy/stamina needed to be the pastor of St. Saviour. Graciously the Bishop allowed me to retire effective Saturday, January 31, 2015. That afternoon, I started a 10 day vacation in Vero Beach, Florida. While in Vero Beach, I attended Holy Cross Parish. At Mass on Sunday, February 1, 2105, it was announced that the pastor of the parish had fallen and broke his leg, so I went to the rectory and offered my services to the parish for the 10 days I intended to be there. To make a long story a little bit shorter, I ve been helping out at Holy Cross parish pretty much since then. It s such a privilege for me to return home to St. Saviour when I can. Fr. Frank and Fr. Kevin have gone way, way overboard in welcoming me with warm, sincere hospitality and always encourage me to come back more often. What gratitude I have for them. In every letter I wrote to you when I was your pastor I concluded with the request that you please pray for me and this letter is no exception. Thank you. God bless you. Love, Fr. Murphy ST. SAVIOUR BOOK GROUP The St. Saviour book group will meet on Wednesday, October 4, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM to discuss Silence: A Novel by Shusaku Endo. We will gather in the meeting room at the rear of the parish hall. All are welcome. For the complete 2017/2018 schedule and additional information contact Betsy at ektbetsy@gmail.com. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA): RCIA Classes are for adults who have never been baptized, who have been baptized in another Christian tradition or who have been baptized as Catholics but did not receive First Communion or Confirmation. Classes are held in the St. Saviour Catholic Academy Library on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. If you are interested in attending these classes, please contact the Parish Office or pick-up a brochure in the Narthex of the Church to obtain more info.
