The Purpose of the Organization was read. The Chief of the Boat tolled the Base Bell once for each of the following US Submarine Force Losses during the Month of September: 25 Sept 1925 USS S-51 SS 162 32 Men 09 Sept 1943 USS Grayling SS 209 76 Men 28 Sept 1943 USS Cisco SS 290 76 Men Tom Crosby delivered the invocation after a moment of silence. The Chief of the Boat led the men in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The Secretary verified that a quorum was present.

Roll Call: The following members were present: Mike Smith, Gerald Zeman, Ken Smith, Bill Klose, Frank McDevitt, Bob Smith, Tom Crosby and Alan Dempsey. The base welcomed our two newest members in attendance: Karl Pope and Daryl Betz. Karl served on-board the USS Holland, USS Frank Cable and the USS Emory S. Land and taught at Charleston, SC. Daryl served on-board the USS Groton. The base members introduced themselves and the boats they served on. Meeting Minutes: The July Minutes were posted to the website and the Base Secretary provided minutes at the meeting. Tom Crosby made the 1st motion to accept the minutes as provided. Frank McDevitt made the 2nd motion. All in favor, motion passed. Installation of Officers: Ken Smith graciously accepted the position as Base Vice Commander and was sworn in. Treasurers Report: The Base Treasurer reported an income of $3966.00 and a beginning balance of $8168.82 for the month of August. The Treasurer reported an ending balance of $12134.82 as of 31 August 2014. A full report will be given at the October meeting when all raffle incomes have been tallied. Tom Crosby made the 1 st motion to accept the treasurer s report as read. Gerald Zeman made the 2 nd motion to accept. All in favor, motion passed. Committees: Membership: Ken Smith reported that we now have 47 members on our sailing list. Ken said this was quite a boost from our last meeting. Correspondence: Bob read a couple of pamphlets that he was given during the West End Fair and the Victorian Days. First was a pamphlet for Byram Day at the Neil Gylling Park in New Jersey. The other pamphlet was for the renaissance fair in New Jersey. The base was also received an invitation from Monroe County Veterans Affairs for the Veterans Day Parade in Stroudsburg, Pa on the 6th of November. The secretary read a thank you letter from St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish for our support in their Annual Golf Outing on August 6 th. Flag Boxes: Charity / Donation: Gerald Zeman states that he would wait until all of the raffle proceeds are in.

Publicity: Bob Smith stated that he has put the usual ads in the local papers this month for our meeting. Dinner/Dance: The annual Base Christmas Dinner will be held on Friday, 16 December 2016 at Robert Christian Restaurant in Blakeslee, PA. 1PM. Parades: Barrett Township Halloween Parade on the 30 th of October. Line up to be at Eagle Scout: Mike Smith reported that there are two Eagle Scout Courts of Honor coming up. One of the 9 th of October and the other on the 26 th of November. Names and locations are in the calendar of events. Kap(ss) 4 Kid(ss): No Report. Frank McDevitt read from the Submarine Operations of WWII about the loss of the USS Cisco. The Cisco was lost to Anti-Submarine attacks by aircraft west of Mindanao Old Business: Bob Smith stated that we had a very successful time at the West End Fair and the Victorian Days in Belvidere, NJ and grossed over $5100. The cost of the tickets, the prize package and fair entrance fee come out of what we brought in. Bob Smith also talked about the annual Chestnuthill township Community Day coming up on the 25 th of September. Set up is between 9 & 10AM, the festival will run from Noon to 5. Bob talked about going to Totowa, NJ again to see where John Holland is buried. There is also a replica of the USS Holland. No date has been set. If anyone wished to go, please contact Bob Smith or Ken Smith. Bob Smith talked about our obtaining replacement membership cards. He even brought in a sample. They are made of metal and Bob asked the members if there was anything that needed to be added or changed. Tom Crosby made the 1 st motion to have the new cards made. Ken Smith made the 2 nd motion. All in favor, motion passed. New Business: Bob Smith talked about the upcoming Barrett Township Halloween Parade. The parade will be on the 30 th of October with line up between Noon and 1PM. The parade will step off at 2PM. Lineup is at the old Pocono Mountain Elementary School behind the Pocono Mountain Academy. We may also decide to have a meal at the diner at the end of the parade route. The annual base Christmas Dinner will be at Robert Christians Restaurant in Blakeslee, PA on the 16 th of December. Bob has posted the menu on our website. Price has gone up, but each member will still pay $15 per person, the base will pick up rest of tab. Please e-mail or call Bob Smith with your menu selection and number of guests. Bob had papers for any member interested in going to the Northeast Regional Conference that will be held in Saratoga Springs, NY on the 9 th of October. Frank McDevitt talked about the annual National Wreath Laying Ceremony that will be held on the 20 th of November this year. The local Lion s Club will be placing wreaths on

veteran s graves at the Pocono Lake Cemetery across from the Tobyhanna Elementary Center. Time of the event is 2PM for those interested in going. Frank also mentioned the possibility of being able to store our float at one of the hangars at the Pocono Municipal Airport on Rte 611. Further information will be forthcoming. Good of the Order: Frank McDevitt talked about his sponsorship during the golf outing and had our base name place on one of the flags on the golf course. Frank is a member of the parish. Bob Smith wanted to thank the following members who helped out with the West End Fair: Bill Klose, Al Dempsey, Don Ransel, Gerald Zeman, Skip Donohue, Ken Smith, Mike Smith, John Kelly and Mike s friend, Jay Ansky. The following members helped out in Belvidere: Tony Hicks and Ed Surette. For the benefit of our two new members, each of our committees were expanded upon. Frank McDevitt talked about our largest donation recipient, the Valor Clinic at the former Jonas Hotel and talked about what they do and what they have done for the community. Mike Smith talked about the Eagle Scout Certificate Program and that we try to do them in person. Binnacle List - Don Ransel is recovering from having a mini-stroke around the time of the West End Fair. Calendar of Events: 25 Sep 2016: Chestnuthill Township Community Day Event. Noon to 5. 9 Oct 2016: Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Jesse M. Wiseburn at the Carpathian Village, Snow Hill Road, Cresco, PA at 1PM. 19 Oct 2016: Monthly meeting at 1900 Hrs. Raffle winner to be drawn at end of this meeting. 30 Oct 2016: Barrett Township Halloween Parade. Line up by 1PM. Parade starts at 2PM. 11 Nov 2016: Veterans Day. 16 Nov 2015: Monthly meeting at the Wilson-Fischer Post. 26 Nov 2016: Eagle Scout Court of Honor for James Jeffrey Senholzi at the Whispering Pines Banquet Hall at the Country Club of the Poconos Municipal Golf Course in East Stroudsburg at 2PM. 16 Dec 2016: Annual Base Christmas Dinner at the Robert Christians Restaurant in Blakeslee, Pa. More information will be forthcoming in the next couple of months. 21 Dec 2016: Monthly meeting at the Wilson-Fischer Post.

Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 19 October 2016 at 1900 Hrs. at the American Legion, Wilson-Fischer Post. 1 st motion made by Gerald Zeman to adjourn the meeting, 2 nd motion made by Mike Smith. All in favor, motion carried. The members present joined the Base Commander in the reading of the Base Creed. To perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. That their dedication, deeds and supreme sacrifice be a constant source of motivation toward greater accomplishments. Pledge loyalty and patriotism to the United States of America and its Constitution. Tom Crosby offered a closing prayer. Bob Smith declared the meeting of the Pocono Base adjourned at 2009 hrs.
