Members present 37 Notes from Annual General Meeting - Monday 12th November 2018 Apologies Carol Allen,Bill Branthwaite, Bernard Butler, Jonathan Mayne, Mary McIntyre, Pat and Martin Reid, The Annual General Meeting was held with last years AGM Minutes being confirmed. Treasurer Wayne Norris presented the financial reports for the year which were accepted. It was also resolved to appoint P. R. Jennings and Co. as auditor for the club. Our office bearers for 2019/2020 will be: President - Byron Groves Immediate Past President - Christine Williams President Elect - Roger Skipsey Vice President - Peter Rawlings Secretary - Craig Young Treasurer - Gordon Morriss Directors - Carol Allen, Paul Clark, Rob Davies and Colin Stokes Thank you to the above members for taking on these roles and congratulations. After the Annual General Meeting our normal club meeting was held with committees breaking into their groups. The following announcements were made: A thank you note from Fusion had been received thanking the club for helping at working bees and financial support. Peter Rawlings thanked club members for their support at the sad time of his father, Barry, passing away. Merv Williams reminded members of the forthcoming breakfast meeting (Rotary on Toast) on Monday 3rd December 2018 and to nominate a potential new member. Paul Clark advised members that mock interviews for students at Mornington Secondary College would take place on Thursday 22nd November 2018 and volunteers were needed. Colin Stokes was looking for members to help with car parking at the Briars, 4.30pm to 7pm on Saturday 1st December 2018 for Shire end of year function. Colin also advised that he and Bill Cummins Wayne Jenkins attended a Bunnings information evening where community groups were provided with hints for the BBQ days. Bunnings also expressed their appreciation in the club's support of their Environment Exhibition by providing a SkyHydrant and information. Christmas wrapping on 17th to 24th December 2018 was also on the agenda for any members or partners wanting to help. Colin concluded by thanking Wayne Jenkins for servicing the BBQ Trailer (well done Wayne). Roger Annear advised that the End Polio Movie Night raised $1,000.00. Thank you to those members who attended. Peter Warren conducted the fine session and targeted some of the newer members, Pat Morton and Craig Young. David Wheeler ran the swindle but alas there were no winners. BREAKING NEWS - The club held the Annual Community Golf Day on Friday 16th November 2018 at Mt Martha Golf Course. The weather was much kinder to us this year and a very successful day was held. Thank you to the members contributing to the day. Financial result to be advised next Monday (26th November 2018)

President Christine opened the meeting by welcoming District Governor Janne Speirs and Past District Governor Charlie Speirs. Christine also passed on the thanks from Rob and Yvonne Marks for the members kind thoughts and flowers and attendance at the service for their daughter, Margo. An update on President Elect, Byron Groves was given following his recent stroke. Byron is starting to take a few steps and is speaking okay. (Note: Colin Stokes will be doing the Bulleting in Byron's absence.) Merv Williams announced that our meeting on Monday 3rd December 2018 will be a 7am breakfast meeting at Delganis, cost $20.00. The Christmas Dinner this year will be on Monday 17th December 2018 at Mornington Golf Club, cost $32.00. Merv also advised that the New Peninsula Church was having 2 sessions (3pm and 6pm) of Christmas Carols on Sunday 16th December 2018 with Silvie Paladino singing. Pizzas are also being offered at the Williams home after the 6pm Carols. Roger Skipsey advised that at the recent ABCD (Art Building Childrens Dreams) meeting Carol Allen was appointed Chairperson and Gordon Morriss Treasurer. Ken Wall, Roger Skipsey and Doug Rhodes are board members. Thank you to these members for taking on these roles. Roger also advised that assistance to be given in the Ampara district of Sri Lanka was to be reviewed as the Mango and English for Mobility projects were no longer considered suitable for our club. Wayne Jenkins (on behalf of Bill Cummins) indicated that we have secured a Bunnings BBQ on Monday 10th December 2018 and that volunteers were needed. Please check your diary and advise Bill or Wayne of your availability. President Christine commented on the Golf Day, our major fundraiser, and thanked the Golf Day Committee for their work on this. Tom Goulding on behalf of the committee thanked the members for their work in chasing up sponsors and players and announced we raised $8,200.00 and with a couple of more donations to come in we should finish with $9,000.00. District Governor Janne spoke about the upcoming Multi District Conference (15-17 February 2019) in Melbourne. Early bird registration closes 30th November 2018 (cost $175.00) and registration after that will be $225.00. The dinner on Saturday Night with music entertainment from the very good Baker Boys will cost $110.00 and accommodation is available through Travel Lodge at great rate of $140.00. DG Janne also called up immediate Past President, Tom Goulding, to present him with 2 awards. First for being the number 2 club in the District in per capita Annual Fund giving to the Rotary Foundation. The second award was a certificate of appreciation for our clubs support of the End Polio Now; Countdown to History Campaign. Tom thanked the members for their efforts in achieving these awards. Bill Branthwaite extracted fines and Bernard Butler extracted money for the Swindle but did not give away any prize.

Meeting Notes continued. The guest speaker for the night was PDG Charlie Speirs talking about the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary. Charlie is District Chairman for the Rotary Foundation. Charlie explained some of the ways of raising funds. Centurion Club, Paul Harris Fellow nominations were mentioned as the most common. 50% of the funds raised come back to the Rotary District after 3 years for use in project grants. Encouragement was given to members to embark on projects and involve the Rotary Foundation as a way of increasing the funds that could be expended on projects. Examples of projects in different parts of the world were given. Assistance (Grants) from the Rotary Foundation are available for projects locally, other parts of Australia and other countries. The six areas of focus for the Rotary Foundation are:. Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution. Disease Prevention and Treatment. Water and Sanitation. Maternal and Child Health. Basic Education and Literacy. Economic and Community Development The major aim of the Rotary Foundation, End Polio Now, was an example of the good Rotary was doing in the world. Charlie advised that Nigeria had not had a polio case reported in the last 8 months and that only small number of cases were still being reported in Pakistan and Afganistan.
