There are so many levels on which to understand the events of the Passion. The woman who anoints Jesus acts prophetically in a way that the other disciples do not yet grasp. Anointing is for priests, prophets, and kings, and also for the preparation of the dead. It is for healing and for holiness. Her action acknowledges the imminent events of the passion and death of the Lord, and points toward his resurrection and triumph over evil and death. He is priest and victim, prophet and God, King and Lord. All these things are acknowledged in her prophetic anointing. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION s today Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday? Though now known I officially as Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, confusion is understandable, since before the 1969 reform of the calendar two separate Sundays bore these titles. Passion Sunday was a week before Palm Sunday. To add to the confusion, the Gospel accounts of the Passion of the Lord were not read on Passion Sunday, but on Palm Sunday! On Passion Sunday, the cross and statues were veiled in full purple drapes. The organ had fallen silent at the beginning of Lent, and now the sanctuary bells were replaced by wooden clappers. The introit (opening chant) for the old Mass of Passion Sunday hints at a reason for reform: Do me justice, O God, and fight my fight against a faithless people (Psalm 42). This liturgy was laden with references to the infidelity of the Jews, a theme that gave rise to inflammatory preaching and, in some places, attacks against the persons and property of the Jewish people. This does not stand as a treasure of any sort in our tradition. Our authentic tradition, rather, is the ability to reflect and repent and to seek reconciliation with the Jews, our brothers and sisters in the love and service of God. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. A Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Sunday, March 29, 2015 FLOWERS FOR ALTAR OF REPOSE s is the tradition at Santa Clara, we need your beautiful garden flowers or Easter Lily plants on Holy Thursday for our Church

Sanctuary and the Altar of Repose, which will be located in the School Auditorium. Please leave your fresh-cut flowers in the large buckets near Our Lady s Grotto, located between the church and the rectory on either Wednesday, April 1, or Holy Thursday Morning, April 2. What a beautiful way to praise Christ s glory with your own flowers! GOOD FRIDAY PRAYER WALK, 4/3 All are welcome to participate in the Good Friday Prayer Walk in reparation for the sin of abortion. We will meet at Sacred Heart 10800 Henderson Rd. at 8:30 AM in the parking lot. The walk is five miles to Planned Parenthood at 5400 Ralston (by Saratoga & Ralston). We pray as we walk. We will arrive at Planned Parenthood about 12:00 noon. For those who are not able to complete the walk there will be a shuttle following along. If you would like to be part of these shuttles please contact Robert and Mary Bagdazian 525-9203 prior to the walk. For those who wish to leave their cars near Planned Parenthood for easy access at the end of the walk, you may meet at 8:00 AM at the church across from Planned Parenthood. A shuttle will provide transportation to Sacred Heart in time for the start of the walk. Please no graphic signs as children will be present. Any questions please call Robert and Mary Bagdazian 525-9203. MASS HEARING ASSISTANCE DEVICES Parishioners are now able to purchase hearing assistance devices that are compatible to the Church sound system. The amplification device and earpiece cost $125.00. Salmo Dios mío, Dios mío, por qué me has abandonado? (Salmo 22 (21)). Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Martes: J. S. Paluch Co.
