Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish community and beyond. We seek God s blessing and guidance to be faithful to this mission. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 12, 2018
August 12, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, This week I am spending a few days in Arlington, VA and will also be visiting friends in Washington, DC. This Wednesday the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, another feast which celebrates our Patroness. I am planning to make my semiannual visit to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and possibly celebrate a private mass for the intentions of all of you, the faithful of Immaculate Conception. I also intend to light a 7 day candle for all your intentions. I remember mentioning the possibility of a parish pilgrimage to the shrine. As I asked anyone interested to let me know, I heard from five parishioners who showed interest. Soon, I ll draw up interest again and publicize the possible day trip better. For now, as was mentioned a few weeks ago in our bulletin, the Archdiocese has planned a Pilgrimage to the National Shrine on Saturday, October 6 th. The cost for the day is $50.00, which includes transportation and dinner. If interested, you will be joining Cardinal Dolan on this pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The pilgrimage is hosted Nineteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time by the Office of Adult Faith Formation. To purchase tickets, please visit adnypilgrimage.eventbrite.com and select your desired departure site, the nearest site from us is at St. Thomas Aquinas College, 125 Route 340 Orangeburg, NY 10962. You may also call the Office of Adult Faith Formation at 646-794-2579. Again, a reminder to all of us during any family vacation time, MASSTIMES.ORG is a website that will assist any individual in finding the nearest Catholic Church while on vacation. May God continue to bless us with His mercy, -Fr. Herbert T. DeGaris RENEW + REBUILD UPDATE As of August 8 st, Immaculate has received 162 pledges totaling $790,205.00. You may return your pledge card by way of dropping it into Sunday s collection basket or mailing it to the Campaign Office. May God bless the continuing generosity of this great parish family. Summer time runs can be very busy, with many of our homeless brothers and sisters on the streets, rather than seeking shelter indoors. So for anyone who has thought about coming on a run, but not done so, this would be a very good opportunity. It is also a great way to get a head start on any service hours needed for the upcoming school or Catechetical year.
