Sir, There has been waterlogging in Nagathamman Koil Street Extn (LIC Colony 2nd Street), West Mambalam-Ashok Nagar during the past 3 years even during short spells of rain. It is a dead-end street behind Mettupalayam Nagathamman Temple which is only 130 ft. long. The stagnant water does not drain off but has to evaporate. As the street is lower than that of the adjoining street, water from this street also flows into our street and adds to the stagnation. There are 15 houses in our street most of which are occupied by senior citizens who have been living here for 35 years. They have to wade through the pool of water whenever they venture out. They also face the threat of water-borne diseases. Our street was last relaid in 2014 with a thin layer of tar. We have met the Asst. Engineer (Division 140) a number of times over the past 3 years. He has been promising that our street will be re-laid as sanction has been accorded long ago but nothing has happened. Heavy rains have been forecast during the north-east monsoon this month and residents are worried. Residents T. R.Vasudeva Rao, Muthukumar, K. Subramaniyan, Ramamoorthy. Ph: 99400 79618, 94442 75944 MTC free tokens for senior citizens Sir, MTC issues 10 free travel tokens for a month every 3 months to senior citizens based on a Travel Card it issues after checking Aadhaar and ration cards with copies. Why must users show Aadhaar and ration cards and give copies every time tokens are sought? They often forget to bring them and have to go back to get them resulting in waste of money, effort and time. Cannot MTC issue a card ticket with numerals for 30 days a quarter or 120 days annually? Conductors can punch one number for every trip. It saves cost of tokens and tickets and conductors time and effort to check the number of each token with that in the Travel Card. Does MTC want to count how many persons used tokens or number of tokens used? If not, let it issue card tickets instead of tokens. This system will avoid long queues, tiring wait, wastage of stationery, and save money. B. Raman, T. Nagar Unruly students crowd bus stop Sir, At Duraisamy Road bus stop a large number of students gather on the road and prevent free flow of traffic especially from 3.30 p.m to 4.30 p.m. They also display heroics by boarding buses on the run risking their lives. One or two traffic policemen should be posted at the spot to discipline the students. The school management should also educate the students suitably. Badrinarayanan, Aishwarya Complex, 4, Duraisamy Road, T. Nagar Non-supply of metrowater Sir, Ganesh Flats complex in 59/1, Muthalamman Koil Street has not been getting metrowater supply for the past 6 months though the other residents of the street are getting the supply. The owners of the flats are therefore forced to buy water through tankers shelling out huge amounts of money. I came to occupy a flat only in August, but I had a rude shock when I was asked to pay Rs. 1000 plus as shown by a meter just for 25 days. The residents association has been in constant touch/communication with the Asst. Engineers of Metrowater Board, Thambiah Street and K. K. Nagar. The engineers should detect leaks in the pipeline and carry out the work of repair/replacement to enable uninterrupted supply of water. While water tax / water charges have been paid by the flat owners in advance to avoid any penalty, what prevents Metrowater Board from carrying out repairs? N. Vijayaraghavan, F4, Ganesh Flats, 1 st Street, Muthalamman Koil Street, West Mambalam. Ph: 99626 64766 Motilal Street misused for parking Sir, Shoppers are misusing Motilal Street, T. Nagar for parking their cars and 2-wheelers. This is a hindrance to the residents, commuters and regular traffic. The stretch from Usman Road end to the middle of Motilal Street has been converted into a parking area. I appeal to the T. Nagar police to take action to prevent the misuse of Motilal Street for parking. Request to shift TASMAC shop I have written earlier about the TASMAC shop in Dhandapani Street, T. Nagar, opposite Ramaswamy Street. Drinking outside the shop. urinating at street corners/in surrounding areas and throwing used paper cups and empty bottles are continuing. Students of educational institutions situated nearby move daily through the stench emanating from the area Further, women living in the area face a security threat. I appeal to the officials concerned to shift the shop to some other area. V. S. Narayanaswamy, Motilal Street, T. Nagar
