WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. St Mary s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out a blue envelope in the nave chairs or by the main entrance and allow us to retrieve the tax you ve already paid & put it towards the work of St Mary s. Further information about St Mary s, our life and ministry can be found on the website www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk, on Twitter and Facebook. Please note that for legal and copyright reasons the taking of videos, photographs and recordings is not permitted during services. NOTICES THIS SUNDAY it s a pleasure to welcome to our 10.30am service the Freemen of England and Wales (who are visiting Warwick this weekend), along with our Mayor, Court Leet and other civic dignitaries. MUSIC MATTERS We re thrilled to be elevating two probationers to Full Chorister status in this morning s 10.30am service: many congratulations to Oskar Hillermann and Isaac Turner. Also, some further proof particularly in the light of recent discussions with and about Alistair Cook that being a chorister provides an excellent foundation for other areas of life: girl chorister Emer Reid has been appointed Deputy Head Girl at Kenilworth School, and her older sister, Orla, has been chosen as the Leader of Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra. Congratulations to both! NEXT SUNDAY is Harvest Festival when we collect tinned/packet food and other suitable items for our local foodbank so do bring your contribution along to be placed by the altar. The service will be followed by our Harvest Lunch to be held in the church. A simple lunch of bread/cheese/apple pie. No charge but donations would be gratefully received. There is a sign in sheet at the back of the church. There will also be a retiring collection for the Farming Coomunity Network. LAST WEEK our Outward Giving Sunday, when we collect for a charity nominated by a member of St Mary s congregation, raised nearly 430 towards the Scoliosis Campaign Fund. BERNARD SILVERMAN is a longstanding friend of The Rector s and his forthcoming lecture in St Mary s will draw on his recent experience of being scientific adviser at the Home Office. He is always a lively and stimulating speaker and there s no charge, so why not come along!

COMING SOON! The Warwick Words History Festival will soon be upon us and this will include our Festival Service on Sunday 7 th Oct at 11am when our preacher will be The Revd Paul Edmondson who is Head of Research for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and Director of the Stratford-upon-Avon Poetry Festival. Not to be missed! WARWICK POPPIES: Tickets are now available - in the St Mary s Shop and in the Tourist Information Centre - for two important and interesting events : 1). Sun 11 th Nov at 6am., as part of the Nation s Tribute, a lone piper will play Battle s O er. This is being replicated at 1,000 venues across the country and is the same piece that was played as the Armistice was signed exactly 100 years ago. He will then move into St Mary s, to play amidst the poppies. This is a free event, held in conjunction with Warwick Royal British Legion. At 6.30am there will be an Armistice Breakfast at Alderson House. Entry strictly by tickets - 10pp. 2). Thu 6 th Dec at 7pm., at St Mary s Church. Free event. The Christmas Truce. Come and hear this famous, true story as recounted by well-known local historians Alan Reed and Sir Andrew Hamilton, told amidst the poppies and the twinkling Christmas Trees. Light refreshments will be served, with kind sponsorship from the Fusilier Association, so to help, please collect a ticket from either Warwick Tourist Information Office or St Mary s Shop. A BIG THANK YOU There was a meeting for our Sidespeople on Thursday, which was an opportunity to say Thank you for all the hard work the team does to welcome regular and visiting worshippers to St Mary s. It was also a chance to discuss the idea of moving the start of our Sunday evening service to the earlier time of 5.30pm to help younger choristers. This was felt to be acceptable, so we need to consult with our evening congregation and our serving team. If you have thoughts about this or wish to know more please feel free to speak to the vicar. BEST WISHES from all at St Mary s to Canon David Tilley (one of our former Team Vicars and who continues to take occasional services here) on his 80 th birthday this Tuesday (25 th ).

BIBLE READINGS Normal service will be resumed after Harvest Festival. PRAYER OF THE WEEK As our time of harvest approaches, We thank you Lord for the bountiful produce we are so lucky to enjoy. As we rejoice and enjoy the fruits of the field and sea, we are thankful to those who bring food to our tables. May we never forget those who have little or nothing to eat from day to day. Loving father, we pray for a peaceful, and abundant world where none need go hungry. Amen. The Sixteen Choral Pilgrimage in Coventry Cathedral Wednesday 3 rd October 2018 at 7.30pm Tickets: 16 ( 8) Join The Sixteen in an exploration of the sacred and secular works of 16th century composers William Cornysh (both father and son) and 20th century master of the voice, Benjamin Britten. https://thesixteen.com/events/choral-pilgrimage-2018-coventry/ Diocesan Pilgrimage to The Holy Land January 2020 A Diocesan Pilgrimage to The Holy Land is being planned for January 2020 in association with Lightline Pilgrimages.
