We recognize that this time in life is not about aging, but about attitude - an outlook that looks to Christ. Upcoming Great Events in November Thursday, November 6 Day Trip to The Barn in Lake Alfred Step back in time and join us as we carpool to The Barn for a fabulous fall excursion. If you enjoy fall weather, beautiful holiday decorations, antiques, and fellowship over lunch, then you will enjoy this day trip. We will depart by carpools from the church parking lot at 9:30am on Thursday, November 6th and return by 4:00pm. There is not a charge, however, you will pay for your own lunch. 11/12/2014 A Very Special Day Planned For Act II Museum Hop Saturday, November 15th Hosted by Susan and Ed Baxa Abundant Living Event On Oct. 9th, Rev. Jim Harnish inspired a crowd of over 50 attendees with his message on how to maintain LifeLong Discipleship. Join us for a Museum Hop to the Alfond Inn and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College. Here is an itinerary for the day. 10:30a - All meet at church for coffee and fellowship then walk or ride in our mini-van to the Alfond Inn. 11:00a - We will have a tour of the Art of the Alfond Inn (a brand new installation of art will be on display). 12:00p - Then, either walk or ride to the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins. 12:15p - Enjoy a special private tour of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. Our tour guide will be Dr. Ena Heller, the Bruce A. Beal Director of the Cornell Fine Art Museum. Tour to be escorted by Susan Baxa, member of the museum's Board of Visitors. 1:15p - Stroll down Park Ave. for lunch together This is an exclusive event that has planned just for the Act II group. Nov. 25th 7:00-9:00pm Come join the excitement of great fellowship and conversation with other Act II Singles as they meet in the Resource Center, second floor of MFLC. The group has been having lively discussions and even if you don't read the books, you are always welcome to participate and enjoy the fellowship! No sign up necessary. The book chosen for this month's study is the classic "Absalom, Absalom!" by William Faulkner, a Southern Gothic novel that takes place during and after the Civil War that deals with moral dilemmas, the southern code, and the complexity of pride in family. Special Gathering & Book Study next month December 16th, 7 p.m. At the home of Mike Haye 1217 Fairway Drive Winter Park A United Methodist pastor, Mike Slaughter, has written an intriguing nonfiction book titled "Christmas is Not Your Birthday." The group will discuss the book's theme which is to experience the joy of living and giving like Jesus. Sharing Christmas Program "Sharing Christmas" Volunteers Needed Dates: Sunday, Dec. 7th: anytime between 9-1:00 noon (at WP campus) Saturday, Dec. 13: anytime between 2-6:00 pm (at South Street campus) Sunday, Dec. 14: anytime between 12-6:00 pm Monday, Dec. 15: anytime between 2-6:00 pm We are excited about planning and operating the Christmas Shop at South Street this year. Lots of volunteers will be needed to help sort and stock the shop, to work with parents as they select gifts for their children, and to assist parents as they wrap them to take home to put under the tree. Our Congregation and Our Community MAP Needs Our Help Mentoring for Academic Success (MAP) is an afterschool program at South Street Ministry that serves children from neighboring Lake Como and Hillcrest Elementary Schools. MAP's staff and volunteer mentors work with the children on homework and additional academic assignments Monday through Fridays. 11/12/2014 Many of you attended our August Speaker Series where we heard an inspiring message from Britt and Allison Gilmore, missionaries at the East Belfast Mission in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This mission is providing a Christian witness to peace, justice, and tolerance in an area of unemployment, poverty, and social and political tension. Many of you have asked how we can support this mission. At every future Act II event we will have a bucket that you can make a contribution from the change in your pockets or purse for this mission. Our goal is to reach $2000 by St. Patrick's Day. Of course, larger donations will be accepted. Tuskawilla UMC Service Fri. Nov. 14th & Fri. Dec. 12th 2-5pm Act II helps with the food distribution typically on the fourth Friday of each month at Tuskawilla UMC from 2-5pm. But because of the holidays, we will be helping out on the 2nd Friday in Nov. and Dec. Contact Anita Williams at alwilliams5555@gmail.com if you would like to help. Save the Dates... Christmas in the Park Thurs. Dec. 4 6:15-8pm The Morse Museum helps launch the holiday season in Winter Park when it lights up Tiffany windows in Central Park and presents the Bach Festival Choir, Youth Choir, and Brass Ensemble in concert. Join the Act II Group at 5pm as we gather in fellowship. Bring your own picnic, lawn chairs, and blankets. Look for the Act II sign on the gray tarp. Come early to claim your spot. Winter Park Christmas Parade Sat. Dec. 6 th Gather at 9am at the corner of Morse and Park Ave. Bring your own chairs and meet us for some Christmas fun at this annual extravaganza in Winter Park Singing Christmas Trees Fri. Dec. 12 We have a dozen tickets left for this great evening on Friday, Dec. 12. Meet at 5:00pm for quick dinner together then board the church bus and travel to First Baptist Orlando for the 7:30 performance. Tickets are $18.25 and they are "first come - first serve".
