I want to thank you all for the warm reception last week upon my returning from the 2017 South Carolina and North Georgia Annual Conferences! I am excited to report that I have been appointed to serve the First United Methodist Church Myrtle Beach congregation as your Minister of Christian Education. This means that I am now a Provisional Deacon in the North Georgia Conference of the UMC, appointed to serve in the South Carolina Conference at First UMC Myrtle Beach. My position has transitioned from a staff position to one of your appointed clergy. Identifying and accepting a call to ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church requires discernment from the individual, support of the local congregation, and seasons of supervision. As a Provisional Deacon, I have completed the first major set of interviews, assessments, and discernment, and am now beginning a three-year supervision process towards ordination. During this time, I covet your prayers, friendships, and constructive criticism. Together we are all called to be the church, and I am incredibly thankful to be a part of this wonderful congregation and church staff family! May we all continue to grow in our love and discipleship of Jesus Christ. Blessings, Rev. Emily Kirby First Church Weekly Reading: June 26 Insist on Justice for All Exodus 23:1-9 June 27 Eternal Coast of Not Offering Justice Matthew 25:41-46 June 28 No Perversion of Justice Allowed 2 Chronicles 19:4-7 June 29 Persist Until Justice is Done Luke 18:1-8 June 30 Deacons Called to Ministry of Justice Acts 6:1-7 July 1 Israelites Meet God at Mount Sinai Exodus 19:1-9 July 2 Moses Called to Free Enslaved Israelites Exodus 3:1-12 First Church invites you to follow this weekly Scripture reading plan if you don t have one already.
