Gathering God calls us together to offer praise, acknowledge sin, and celebrate our adoption as forgiven children. Prelude 9:15 Two Renaissance Dances Kevin McChesney Prelude 11:00 Let All Things Now Living arr. Cathy Moklebust *Call to Worship Psalm 116:1 2, 12 13 At the sign * you may stand. Bold text is read or sung in unison. I love the Lord. The Lord has heard my voice and my supplications. God has inclined God s ear to me. Therefore I will call on the Lord as long as I live. What shall I return to the Lord for all the Lord s bounty to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. Come, people of God, let us worship God! *Opening Hymn All Creatures of Our God and King Hymn 15 Prayer of Confession Verse 1 all Verse 2 treble voices Verse 3 lower voices God of grace, love, and communion, we confess that we have failed to love you with all our heart, soul, and mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We ignore your commandments, stray from your way, and follow other gods. Have mercy on us. Forgive our sin and raise us to new life that we may serve you faithfully and give honor to your holy name. In Christ s name we pray. Amen. Verse 4 all Verse 5 choir alone Verse 6 all 1

Assurance of Forgiveness Friends in Christ, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Words of Welcome Anthem 9:15 A Time for Singing music Pat Messick text Song of Solomon 2:11 12 For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth and the time of singing of birds has come. The time of singing has come. O God, give us ears to hear the music of the earth around. O God, give us voices to be a part of all earth s joyful sound. Anthem 11:00 Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me Augustus Toplady Proclaiming the Word We encounter the Word in speech and song as we interpret and expound scripture. Time with Children 9:15 Children may leave for Church School classes. Teachers and ushers can assist in finding classrooms. 11:00 Children pre-kindergarten or age four to grade three may leave for Worship Explorers in Room 302. Thanksgiving We respond by presenting our offerings, setting the table, lifting prayers, and praising the triune God. *Sermon Hymn Let Us Break Bread Together Hymn 525 Offertory Draw Us in the Spirit s Tether music Harold Friedell text Percy Dearmer Draw us in the Spirit s tether; for when humbly, in thy name, two or three are met together, thou art in the midst of them: Alleluia! Alleluia! Touch we now thy garment s hem. As disciples used to gather in the name of Christ to sup, then with thanks to God the Father break the bread and bless the cup. Alleluia! Alleluia! So knit thou our friendship up. All our meals and all our living make as sacraments of thee, that by caring, helping, giving, we may true disciples be, Alleluia! Alleluia! We will serve thee faithfully. Sacrament of the Lord s Supper We invite all followers of Jesus Christ to the table. Pass the tray to your neighbor, who will hold it for you as you receive the bread and grape juice. Cups on the bread tray hold gluten-free bread. Invitation Great Prayer of Thanksgiving The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. Therefore we join our voices with all the saints and angels and the whole creation to proclaim the glory of your name. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory! Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. 3

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Words of Institution Sharing of the Bread and Cup Come, My Way, My Truth, My Life! Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: Such a Way, as gives us breath: Such a Truth, as ends all strife: Such a Life, as killeth death. Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength: Such a Light, as shows a feast: Such a Feast, as mends in length: Such a Strength, as makes his guest. Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: Such a Joy, as none can move: Such a Love, as none can part: Such a Heart, as joys in love. music Ralph Vaughan Williams text George Herbert Concluding Prayer Sending We follow the Word into the world, sent forth with God s blessing to lives of service and love. *Closing Hymn Rise, O Church, Like Christ Arisen Hymn 536 *Benediction Postlude Chorale in E Major Joseph Jongen Op. 37, No. 4 4

Each is 26 by 60 inches, with a red warp, in cotton and silk. On the left, the Palm Sunday tapestry shows the palms that provided branches for Jerusalem to greet Jesus arrival for the Passover festival. The three crosses foretell the tragic violence that awaits the Prince of Peace and spotless Lamb. On the right, an olive tree and a field of roses accompany Jesus in his anguished prayer in the garden on Maundy Thursday. The olive tree bespeaks the hope and peace that will flow from this night of grief, and the roses remind us that Jesus sacrificial death continues the fulfillment of the promises given at the night of his birth. The great promises reach their glorious completion on Easter Sunday, when, with the two women, we witness Jesus resurrection and defeat over death in the empty burial shroud. From the hollow tomb we are pressed on to the road to Galilee, which here runs through artfullywoven wheat and lilies. Here we meet the risen Jesus, who tells us, Go and make disciples of all nations And remember, I am with you until the end of the age (Matt. 29:18 20). The tapestries will hang until Pentecost Sunday. Cover Sun of Righteousness, a linocut by Elizabeth Steele Halstead
