Dr. Jeff Roberts, Senior Pastor jroberts@tbcraleigh.com Twitter: @Jeff Roberts During our November Church Conference on Sunday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. our Personnel Committee will be making a recommendation to our congregation concerning our Student Ministry. As many of you know, we have been in a transition phase since the resignation of Dr. Andy Jung and his move to be Pastor of First Baptist Albemarle. Upon Andy s resignation, we elected a Student Transition Team of: Tonya Zucker, Jeff Smith, Stephanie Tepper, Shelia Baldwin, Kay Bailey and Michael Coats. The purpose of the team was as follows: Assess the current state of the Student Ministry - Strengths and Weaknesses Make recommendations to Personnel Committee regarding Job Descriptions Re-write Job Descriptions Determine if a search is needed Recommend to Personnel Committee and Church candidates for established positions The Team developed a church-wide survey for the purpose for input concerning the Student Ministry from the congregation. The team also assessed the work of our current Student Ministry staff. After meeting and deliberating, the Student Transition Team voted unanimously to recommend to the Personnel Committee that the congregation promote Rev. Lydia Tatum to the position of Associate Pastor/Minister To Students. In addition, the Team recommended unanimously to hire Mr. Christian Davis as our Student Ministry Associate. The Personnel Committee has acted upon the Transition Team s recommendations and has approved the re-written job descriptions and developed compensation continued

Rev. Carla Babb, cbabb@tbcraleigh.com Words from Carla As we raise our children, let us never forget the blessing we have been given. You never quit being a Mom or a Dad no matter what age your children are. You always want God s best for them, and you never quit praying for them. I have been asked, How do you instill in your children a heart for the Lord? Well, I believe that children do learn what we teach them, but more importantly they learn what they see and hear. That is why we shelter their eyes from visions that may be harmful and put our hands over their ears to protect them from what they hear. We restrict what they see and hear on television, in movies, and video games. We try to provide a safe environment visually, audibly, and academically, providing them with tools that are age appropriate. We try to model a faith that our children will Volunteers Needed see and hear and want to learn more about. We show LOVE with GRACE and MERCY, because we know we are imperfect people and we want our children to learn what repentance and forgiveness is and our/their need for Jesus. I do believe that humanity has a place in its heart that only Christ can fill. It is a void in all of us until we repent and receive Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is a free choice for us to accept or turn away. For me, the desire to follow Christ was more than the desire to follow the world, and I prayed and continue to pray that the example in my home would be an example to my children. I wanted them to be able to reach and call out to God in their time of need and depend on Him for all things. I just believe and trust in God s Word that if I train them by His Word, He will be faithful and just and they will return to Him, even if they stray. Parenting is the hardest job you will ever have! You relinquish your self to the nurturing and caring for another human being. Sound familiar we are the first glimpse of Christ our children see. If we are called to be the light of Christ to the world, our children should see and hear it in us. Our actions should reflect Him and not selfish desires. Consider it a great blessing to show mercy and love to a little heart that will one day trust in the same God you do now! Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
