Powerstack Lesson # Jesus Teaches Us Not To Worry The purpose of this lesson plan is to: Create a fun and interactive learning experience Provide teaching options in addition to the Leader Q Card Creatively revisit the Bible story featured in the teaching video Give kids an opportunity to further explore the application point PROGRAM Activity Length of Segment Running Time Q Card: Discussion 15 minutes Start-15 minutes Picture: Bible Story 5 minutes 15-20 minutes Play: Learning Activity 10 minutes 20-0 minutes Plan: Group Commitment 5 minutes 0-5 minutes Pray: Prayer Cards 5 minutes 5-45 minutes PREP You will need: - Story Props (optional) - 5 half sheets of paper and a pencil for EVERY player - Small Group: Set up one container to be the trash can and a throw line 5-7 away - Large Group: Set up one container to be the trash can and a throw line 5-7 away for EVERY TEAM - Game Prizes (optional) - Prayer Cards (1 per kid) - MAP Books (1 per kid) PICTURE (The Bible Story) In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to retell the Bible story presented earlier in the teaching video. The object is to paint a picture that kids will understand and remember. When telling the story, remember you are painting a picture for your viewers. Have fun and explore your creativity. Here are some ideas to make your storytelling more memorable: - Use props: food, drink, clothes, flowers, birdseed, a clock - Invite kids to hold each of the props before reading - Challenge kids to stand up and say Don t worry each time they hear the word worry - Ask the kids to make bird noises

God Takes Care of Everything (Matthew 6:25-4) I tell you, do not worry, don t worry about your life and what you will eat or drink. And don t worry about your body and what you will wear. Isn t there more to life than eating? Aren t there more important things for the body than clothes? Look at the birds of the air. They don t plant or gather crops. They don t put away crops in the storerooms. But your Father who is in heaven feeds them. Aren t you worth much more than they are? Who can add even one hour to his life by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the wildflowers grow? They don t work or make clothing. But here is what I tell you. Not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of those flowers. After all, the grass is here only today. Tomorrow it is thrown into the fire. Your faith is so small. So don t worry. Don t say, What will we eat, or What will we drink?, or What will we wear? People who are ungodly run after all those things. Your Father who is in heaven knows that you need them. But put God s kingdom first. Do what He wants you to do. Then all of those things will also be given to you. So don t worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. PLAY (Learning Activity) In this portion of your class time you will lead your class in a fun and exciting activity that will help your kids apply the Bible lesson to their everyday lives. Pray Today, Throw Your Worries Away HOW TO START: - Divide kids into teams - Give each player 5 half sheets of paper and a pencil - Small Group: Set up one container to be the trash can and a throw line 5-7 away - Large Group: Set up one container to be the trash can and a throw line 5-7 away for EVERY TEAM HOW TO PLAY: - Say, Jesus taught us to pray whenever we are worried about something in our lives. This game is called, Pray today, throw your worries away. This game will help us remember to get rid of our worries by praying. - Ask every player to think of 5 things he/she worries about. - Ask every player to write or draw a picture of each worry onto one of his/her 5 sheets of paper. 2

Small Group Only: - Begin round #1. - The first player from team #1 reads/shares his/her first worry off of one of his/her worry sheets. - The player then crumples his/her worry into a ball and throws it away. - The player stands behind the throw line and attempts to toss his/her worry sheet into the trash can. - A basket earns 1 point for his/her team. - Next, a player from team #2 takes a turn. - Repeat all steps for the remaining teams until round #1 is complete. - Repeat all steps for the remaining 4 rounds. - Repeat Pray today, throw your worries away each time a worry is tossed into the trash can. - The team with the most points at the end of round #5 wins the game. Large Group Only: - Begin round #1. - Ask each team to line up behind its team throw line. - One player from each team reads/shares his/her first worry off of one of his/her worry sheets. - Each player then crumples his/her worry into a ball and throws it away. - The player stands behind the throw line and attempts to toss his/her worry sheet into the team s trash can. - A basket earns 1 point for his/her team. - Next, another set of players begins round #2. - Repeat all steps for the remaining 4 rounds. - Repeat Pray today, throw your worries away each time a worry is tossed into the trash can. - The team with the most points at the end of round #5 wins the game. PLAY OPTIONS: - For younger kids: Hand out 2 half-sheets of paper. Ask each child to draw a picture of something that he/she worries about or is scared of. Help the kids write or draw a picture. Proceed with the game above. - Hand out game prizes (optional). PLAN (Group commitment) In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to lead your group to make a commitment. You may select any ONE of the options provided or your group may create its own. Encourage the kids to write their commitments on their Prayer Cards so you can be praying for them during the week. Commitment Options: - Play the Pray Today, Throw Your Worries Away game at home with someone in your family. - Spend 5 minutes everyday praying to God about the things you are worried about. - Write down your prayer requests each day.

- Ask an adult to share about t time when he/she prayed about something that he/she worried about. Ask him/her what happened. PRAYER In this portion of your class time, have your kids fill out the Prayer Card. Take the cards home and pray for your kids throughout the week. End your time together by praying for your group commitment. Hand out prayer cards Ask Kids to fill in their commitments in the space provided Ask kids to fill in their prayer requests in the space provided Collect cards so you can take them home and pray for your kids Close in prayer Thank you, God, for always being there to talk with us. Please show us the things we can pray about. We worry about so many things. We worry about not having the food or clothes we want. We worry about scary things that could happen to us. We worry all the time. We know that you are our Heavenly Father, and Jesus said that you always take care of us and give us everything we need. Help us remember to pray and ask you for help whenever we worry this week. Help us, Lord, to do what we have committed to do this week. In Jesus name, amen.
