Please welcome Landon McDaniel to our faith community. A Stewardship Moment The second reading from Saint Paul to the Romans is a favorite of those involved in the ministry of evangelization. There are no secret disciples of the Lord. Those who exercise good stewardship of their faith realize that publicly identifying themselves as followers of Christ has a cleansing effect on their lives. Openly confessing Christ makes them more conscious of how they live their daily lives. Are we content to privatize our faith or are we good stewards of a faith that we share, make public, and regularly identify as a life on Christ? Dear Parishioners, Today is the. In the Gospel reading today is the story of the temptations of Jesus in the desert. Jesus says no to those temptations for food, for worldly powers and to testing God by doing a deed to display his relationship with His Father. But Jesus ministry is just not saying no to temptations. Jesus ministry is more about the good he does in the three years of his public ministry of proclaiming the good news, healing the sick and the lame and not following the letter of the law but the spirit of the law. Our lives can be more fulfilling during Lent by resisting temptations and by doing abundance of good works. In fact if we focus on doing good then there will be less time to think or dwell upon temptations. Our minds can only think of one thing at any given moment. So let us dwell on the good that we can do with each day and then act upon doing that good by focusing our minds on doing good deeds. I m thinking of two different readings from the Office of Readings that relates to doing good and thereby resist temptations to do evil. The first is from a homilist of the 2 nd Century that for Friday of the 32 nd week of Ordinary Time. The author wrote: a very good way of atoning for our sins is by being generous to the poor. Fasting is better than prayer, but almsgiving surpasses both, for love covers a multitude of sins. The second reading is from Thursday after Ash Wednesday and written by St. Leo the Great. There is no more profitable practice as a companion to holy and spiritual fasting than that of almsgiving. Let us focus on doing good this Lent. Have a Happy Lent, Fr. Bob Pray for the Sick Let us pray for these sick: Virgil Schutter, Jack Allison, Kim Dahnke, Collette Lavelle, Ron Sondgerath, Amber Brost, Janet Schutter, Dick Bowman, Mark Cochran, Jason Cole, Brian Lemenager, Staci Wittenauer, Mary Reed, Marlena Thomas, Sharon Eberle, Glenn Barnard, Cooper Gretencord, Mark McMaster, Donna Cooley, Lynn Stone, Charlie Senesac, Ray Muller, Nancy Barrett, Becky Budreau and Gail Muller. Fruitful Harvest 2018 - Walking Together in the Light of Christ Thanks to all who have made a pledge to the 2018 Fruitful Harvest Appeal, Walking Together in the Light of Christ. Come show your support to these great teens, and enjoy some delicious soup and salad! St. Patrick s celebration by the Knight of Columbus 9400 Saint Patrick was a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the Apostle of Ireland, he is the primary patron saint of Ireland, the other patron saints being Brigit of Kildare and Columba. DATE: Sunday, March 17 TIME: Noon - 2 LOCATION: St. Patrick Parish Hall COST: Donation MEAL CHOICES: Corn Beef and Cabbage Hot Dogs Hamburgers Rummage Sale The Benton Community Food and Service Co-op will be having a Rummage Sale again this year.
