Rountons & Welbury Gazette June 2018

Thanks to our Churchwardens Now that the Annual Meetings are out of the way for this year, it is a good opportunity to say thank you to our Churchwardens. The responsibilities that they bear are quite considerable and they go about their tasks often in an unheralded way. Phil Thomas, who retired as Church Buildings Officer for the Diocese of York in the spring of 2018, has spoken at East Rounton and recently at Brompton said, Our Churchwardens are looking after the contents of the Victoria and Albert Museum in six hundred branches (churches in York Diocese) staffed entirely by volunteers. This emphasises the vital work that churchwardens undertake, and it is easy to take them for granted. But the role is vital for the smooth running of our churches. Without them we would soon grind to a halt and the treasures that they look after in our church buildings and their contents might be lost. Of course, many others work many hours for the church, but I think it is worth a special mention for the Churchwardens because of the responsibility that they take on. So, let s give thanks for our Churchwardens, past and present, for the hard work that they do and for all the benefits that they bring to our church communities. Best wishes, Jonathan Cooper The Vicarage, Brompton, Northallerton DL6 2QA 01609 772436 The churchwardens for the benefice are: Michael Nightingale, West Rounton 882435; Michael Dale, East Rounton 882517; Peter Walker, Welbury 882947; Joanne Hughes, Welbury 882268

Welbury 150 club The 150 club is a monthly prize draw that helps the PCC to look after the church and churchyard. A number costs 20 and this number is entered into the draw every month for 12 months (1st prize 50, 2nd prize 20 for 9 months with super draws at Christmas of 3x 100, 1x 50, April & September of 1x 100, 1x 20). While there are numbers available there is no limit to the amount of numbers a person may buy! With the help of the 150 club, other fundraising and kind donations, the three windows in most urgent need of repair have been restored. Please call into church to see the improvement to the window to the right of the alter and the vestry windows. With continued fundraising our aim is to restore all windows, as funds allow, as all the windows (with the exception of the stained-glass window) were installed in 1887 when the church was restored by Hicks so they re all wearing out at the same time. It would be wonderful if all 150 numbers could be sold. Please give the completed form to any member of the PCC: Roger Bennett, Peter Walker, Kate Lindo, Liz Moore, Mary Heald or Joanne Hughes. Many thanks to those who support Welbury church by entering this draw. New members always welcome. Next Family Service 8th July (Sea Sunday) St Leonard s, Welbury.
