The purpose of lent is to prepare ourselves spiritually for the Easter holiday through prayer, almsgiving, reflection, and self denial while reflecting on the last six weeks of Jesus ministry before giving His life for our ransom on the Cross. Over the Lenten Season, a number of events will be taking place in the community to help us refocus our minds and hearts on the depth of God s love for us. One of the events I am most excited about will take place on Thursday, April 13 th, at 6 p.m. It was the Thursday before Easter that Jesus gathered His Disciples in the upper room and took part in the ancient celebration of the Passover. God first instituted the Passover to remind the Israelites how God had saved them from the bondage of slavery in Egypt in the past and to look forward to God s future salvation from the bondage created by our sin. As New Testament Christians, we know that our weekly observance of taking communion is somehow tied to this ancient celebration, but struggle to fully understand what the Passover was. More importantly, how God designed every part of the Passover to point the Israelites to the truth that Jesus is the Messiah they had been waiting for. As Jesus and His Disciples celebrated the Passover on the Thursday before Easter, so will we. It will be a fun night of games, song, eating, and most importantly exploring the depth of God s love for each one of us. Several in our community have expressed an interest in joining us this year for our Christ in the Passover celebration. My plan is to open up registration to the community in April. Our space is limited, and I want to make sure that PVCC has the first opportunity to sign up. This gives us the month of March to check our calendars and register for our Christ in the Passover meal. It s a fun night that involves the whole family. Especially the kids! You can make plans now to join us on the Thursday before Easter! There will be a free will donation basket at the event to help us cover the extra cost of the meal.

MISSION OUTREACH Our Mission statement: It is the mission of the PVCC Missions Outreach to show our love for God and others by using our time, talents, energy and financial resources in support of our global, national and community missions. JR & SR HIGH YOUTH GROUP SUNDAYS 5 to 7 DINNER PROVIDED FAST4HAITI & WORSHIP NIGHT WITH AREA YOUTH GROUPS MARCH 12: 4-7 Dear friends and family, PIONEER BIBLE TRANSLATORS Happy New Year! We do not take for granted the blessings from God and his care for us this past year. Thank you so much for all you do to advance his Kingdom and provide access to his Word for those who don t have it. May you find joy and peace in Him this coming year. UPCOMING EVENTS: FOOD4HAITI MEAL PACKING AND LUNCH APRIL 30 AT 2:00. God s Sod Squad Mowing schedule SPRING is almost upon us. If you like to mow and are looking for a way to serve, the trustees would love your help with mowing the parsonage and church lot. All you have to do is sign up in the church foyer. There may not be a lot of external milestones to look at for this past year but I think we have definitely experienced some spiritual wilderness. Tragedy and the daily grind. Similar to marriage which begins in a sort of euphoric emotional high and matures into solid, faithful loving which brings comfort and security, so God proves to us in his faithfulness that no matter what comes, we can rest and be content in Him. This passed year we exegetically checked Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers for a total of 3,360 verses! In January we had our consultation for the book of Leviticus. God willing, Megans dad will finish his treatments in February just prior to our return to the US for our short home assignment. All glory to God for preserving our health and allowing us to remain here and serve another year. We are thankful to all of you who hold us up in prayer and support us in so many ways. As one of our PBT supervisors recently encouraged us, we would say to you This work is not in vain! People who once had limited acces to God s Word now have it available. The message of his free gift extended to them through his son Jesus! Blessings, Michael, Megan, Abigail and Evie The Bartons will be at PVCC on Sunday, March 12 to update us on their progress and following the sermon we will share in a pot-luck meal. THANK YOU: for participating in our Fish Banks, for the Smokey Mountain Church of Christ in Gatlinburg. This gift of love will help restore food items needed. Bring Fish banks on March 26. Thanks to those who provided food and hands of service for the Christian Campus House dinner. And those that continue to put food items in the barrel for WCCH or LJCC.

ELDER CORNER: We came through a really mild winter in our part of the country and THANKFULL! God gave us just enough winter that all winter enthusiast could be satisfied, the snowmobiles got out; the skiers got to ski, the fisherman got fish, the ice skaters got to skate, the snow removers removed snow and so on. I m glad God is in charge of the seasons cause He knows exactly what we need: Oh we can complain that what we wanted to do in winter wasn't enough, like more fishing! Now that winter is on its way out and we look back we can quickly see that God was very gracious to us all! We need to have that same kind of attitude in life also. If we can just give it all up to Jesus each and every day what a huge difference it will make: You see God also knows exactly how much life we are aloud to live. Not too much joy not too much sadness not too much anger and a lot of forgiveness. It seems to me that the promises He gave us in the Bible are all to prepare us for the next life, Heaven. Yet He gave us that free will that we can choose the path we take. God has blessed us all with individual gifts. All of the gifts differ greatly however we ALL have them. Too often we get caught up in wishing we could be like one of the other members of our church when all we need to do is take a good hard look at ourselves. We are all blessed with gifts from God, they just differ from person to person. Try to figure out your gifts then pray over them that God would let us use each gift to its fullest. Finally, turn all our gifts over to God, who gave them to us in the first place, and let HIM take control of the usage of our gifts. Just like the mild winter, God knows exactly how much to give us to use those gifts. Remember God is responsible for putting together our earthly bodies and giving it exactly what it needs. Not four eyes, six ears, three feet, it is all joined together perfectly, and so is our church body. We all have a part to do!
