The Lord has blessed Jake and Kendra McCullough with the gift of a baby girl, KINSLEY RENAE, who was born Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Iowa Specialty Hospital, Clarion, Iowa. Grandparents are Bart and Robyn Peterson. May our gracious Lord grant Kinsley a long life filled with His richest blessings. The Sunday School will be hosting the Lenten Supper this Wednesday, March 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The menu will be Baked Spaghetti, lettuce salad, garlic bread, and desserts. Proceeds will go toward Sunday School projects. Come and enjoy a good meal and fellowship. Midweek Lenten Services will continue this Wednesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. Zion will be having a special presentation. We welcome a speaker from Chosen People Ministries who will lead us through the story of the Passover and show us how the Passover points forward to Jesus. In the time of Moses, when the 10 plagues were happening, the people of Israel ate the Passover meal while the angel of death visited all the firstborns of the Egyptians and passed over the people of Israel due to the blood of Passover lambs smeared on their doorframes. While this was going on, the people ate a special meal that pointed them forward into the Promised Land, and also pointed forward to Jesus, the ultimate Lamb of God. We are scheduled to have Trevor Rubenstein as a speaker that evening. Please join us. Noon Kiwanis Roast Beef Dinner an annual Palm Sunday event: If anyone would want tickets to the Roast Beef dinner at Zion next Sunday, Palm Sunday (March 25) please see Pastor Aaron. CAMP OKOBOJI Executive Director Doug Kading Retiring: For three decades Camp Okoboji has been blessed with the leadership of Doug Kading as its executive Director. Doug announced his desire to retire from this position to the Camp Board of Directors several months ago. Doug s retirement will become official at the Camp s annual meeting on April 7. In addition to his leadership of Camp Okoboji s Ministry, Doug serves as a member of the IDW Board of Directors and has also served as a past director of the District s Student Financial Aid program. His leadership at Camp and beyond has impacted many children, youth, and families. The congregations and members of Iowa District West (the true owners of Camp Okoboji) are invited to show their appreciation for Doug s leadership by sending notes of appreciation and/or cards of thanks. They may be sent to Camp Okoboji, Attn: Recognition, 1531 Edgewood Drive, Milford, IA 51351. The Camp board of Directors will be hosting a reception for Doug and his wife Sharon after Camp s annual meeting from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 7. The reception will be held in the new Discover Center at Camp. If you are able to attend this reception for Doug please RSVP by calling (712)337-3325. The Camp Board of Directors is also excited to announce that Kirk Warnke has assumed the position of Executive Director of Camp Okoboji. Kirk will formally be designated into the position at the April 7 annual meeting. Kirk s connections within the District, experience with Camp Okoboji, and vision for Camp Okoboji will be a blessing to the future of your Camp. With the significance of the meeting, the Board encourages each congregation to send a delegate (and bring many guests) to this historic annual meeting. Cards can be sent to Michelle (Binger) Dornath, Joyce Fisher s daughter, at: Mercy Center for Rehabilitative Medicine, 1111 6 th Ave. East Tower, Des Moines, IA 50314. If you are not receiving the Lutheran Witness and would like to, please notify the church office. Carpet Capital Project: (Donations can be marked Carpet Project ) At the annual meeting in January the voters of Zion voted to install new carpet in the fellowship hall. If you would look at the current carpet you ll find it to be stained, with many of the stains, in spite of multiple carpet cleanings, impossible to be removed. The carpet was installed when the fellowship hall was built and has been around now around 17 years. Another part of the project will be installing flooring (not carpet) down the hallway into the fellowship hall, as well as a layer of flooring along the north wall (by the kitchen) to avoid some of the staining from the kitchen. The cost for the renovation will be about $15,000. At the Council meeting it was discussed that having part of the funds inhand before we commence with the renovation might be fiscally prudent. To facilitate this, if you are able, we are asking for donations for the project. If possible, we would like to have 1/3 to 1/2 in-hand before we have the carpet installed. The rest of the money for the renovation would then presumably be made up with a loan, which we will pay off over time. If possible, we d like to have the carpet installed this late spring/summer. Money for the project can be given in the regular offering marked Carpet Project,' or with the pink Growing in Christ envelopes found in the back of the church (for safety still mark it Carpet Project ). Blessings to you as you consider giving toward this project. Faith United Methodist hosts the Wednesday Lenten Services/Lunches for the Humboldt Community at 12:05 p.m., followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. The final service will be March 21 by Congregational UCC/Abundant Life.
