MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE Sunday, March 24, 2013 10:00 a.m. Palm Passion Sunday ORGAN PRELUDE: Hosanna, Loud Hosanna Hymn tune Ellacombe (1784) Setting by Michael Burkhardt (b.1957) *[Please stand for the lighting of the candles] CALL TO WORSHIP Cast your cloaks before the Christ who comes! But wait: is this the One we were expecting? Prepare a way for the Christ who is coming. But why does he not seize power right now? Why does he end up being judged, not judging? Come and see the Christ we follow! *HYMN: Ride On, Ride On, In Majesty NCH #215 ANNOUNCEMENTS PRAYER OF INVOCATION Gracious God, we would enter in to a true celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ. Equal with God, Jesus becomes our example and our guide; emptied of self, Jesus serves as savior; as a slave serving others, Jesus is Lord of all; humbled to death, Jesus lives. Gracious God, on this most holy of days, when the anticipation of what could be and the foreboding of what will be faced overwhelms us, we pause to remember. We recall times when we have been faithful to dreams and loyal to people and commitments, and times of difficulty when we have abandoned them. We remember the fear that grows within us and keeps us from standing by our ideals, our friends, our God. We remember despair that leads us to lose hope in ourselves, in you, in life itself.

Gracious God, help us to walk the path of our Christ when need be. Give us courage and strength to face our trials, our abandonment, even our death. Renew in us hope that in suffering there is wholeness, in pain there can be healing, and in death there shall be new life. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray *THE LORD'S PRAYER (trespasses) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen SUNDAY SCHOOL CHOIR: In the Garden Ann Greenleaf, Chip Price CROSS RAISING BY YOUTH SCRIPTURE: Philippians 2:5-11 ANTHEM: Hosanna! Blessed is He Ralph Edmund Marryott (1908-1974) Hosanna!
