TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS EXODUS 39 PRIESTS GARMENTS EXODUS 40 TABERNACLE Say - Welcome to Sabbath School class. Let's bow our head and ask God for understanding as we finish our study of the book of Exodus. Chapter 39 is the making of the Priests garments; chapter 40 is of the setting up of the Tabernacle. Say First God started with the building, then the furniture and now the Garments of the priests (with the instructions in chapter 28) God was getting deeper and deeper and closer to Him. Now Christ is our High Priest and is our Mediator when we sincerely pray to God and ask forgiveness of our sins. The Bible tells us Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands Isaiah 49:16. In other words this is what I went through to deliver His people from sin; this is my favorite verse. This verse shows how much Christ loved His people whom He created; do we love Him back; does He abide in us and us in Him; this is our goal. Below I want to share a chapter with you as we close out the book of Exodus; it is of the prayer of Jesus Christ just before His hour had come as He prayed to God His Father and talked about His people. John 17 - This is the real Lord s Prayer. 1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee (Christ spoke to God here not the disciples even though they were listening.): 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him (to as many as God calls unto Him). 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (Are we beginning to see we can only know Him through understanding His Laws. Many people are not interested in obeying God yet they say they Love Him but the Bible tells us He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest (make known) myself to him.), 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do (Christ did not do the work of His Father by being rebellious to God s Law; He obeyed it.). 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was (John 1:1-14, Hebrews 1). 6 I have manifested (revealed) thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word (How many keep His

word?). 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9I pray for them: I pray not for the world (only those called by God), but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them (because of their obedience not disobedience). 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world (His disciples), and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are (not a trinity). 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name (to follow God, not man): those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition (Judas - God s plan); that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves (Can t have joy fulfilled if we despise His teachings and His Laws.). 14I have given them thy word (Truth); and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth (Do we think the disciples were going to teach a new religion; on the contrary, they would teach the Truth of God as any minister called of God should do.). 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth (Christ never sinned; what is Truth whatever proceeded out of His mouth of God; not by a man-made doctrine but by the Word of God and the only way we will know if it is true is if we are studying and proving all things.) 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word (Through what the disciples taught perfectly, the Law of God; did not change what Christ taught.); 21That they all may be one (How can we all be one if everyone teaches their own religion; it doesn t make sense.); as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them (The glory of Christ is what we will have someday because we have His spirit.); that they may be

one, even as we are one (We cannot be one with a different religion; must stick to the Truth of God.): 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me (Why, because we like Christ our example and are obedient and keep His commandments.). 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee (and the majority still does not know Him ): but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26And I have declared unto them thy name (Your Truth, Your Law, Your Commandments), and will declare it (through every generation): that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them (This is the Love we want in each of us; let us help one another to achieve this great Love.). Exodus 39 1And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service (for the ministry for the service to God), to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses. (The following is a description of the bride s garment. It is a beautiful garment for His priests; at the first resurrection, God s people will become priests of God.) 2And he made the ephod (see Exodus 28:6-of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. 3 And they did beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires (threads or cords), to work it in the blue, and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with cunning work (skillful worker). 4 They made shoulderpieces for it, to couple it together: by the two edges was it coupled together. 5 And the curious girdle of his ephod, that was upon it, was of the same, according to the work thereof; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen; as the LORD commanded Moses. 6And they wrought onyx stones inclosed in ouches of gold, graven, as signets are graven, with the names of the children of Israel. 7 And he put them on the shoulders of the ephod, that they should be stones for a memorial to the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses. 8And he made the breastplate of cunning work (skillful worker), like the work of the ephod; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. 9 It was foursquare; they made the breastplate double: a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof, being doubled.

10 And they set in it four rows of stones: the first row was a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this was the first row. 11 And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. 12 And the third row, a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. 13 And the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper: they were inclosed in ouches of gold in their inclosings (Each tribe had their own stone and God wants each of us to be a precious stone; the Bible tells us 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ I Peter 2:5.). 14 And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, every one with his name, according to the twelve tribes. 15And they made upon the breastplate chains at the ends, of wreathen work of pure gold. 16 And they made two ouches of gold, and two gold rings; and put the two rings in the two ends of the breastplate. 17 And they put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings on the ends of the breastplate. 18 And the two ends of the two wreathen chains they fastened in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod, before it. 19 And they made two rings of gold, and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, upon the border of it, which was on the side of the ephod inward. 20 And they made two other golden rings, and put them on the two sides (shoulders) of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart of it, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod (skillfully woven). 21And they did bind the breastplate by his rings unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue (mark of royal priesthood), that it might be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate might not be loosed from the ephod; as the LORD commanded Moses. 22And he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue. 23 And there was an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon (harness), with a band round about the hole, that it should not rend. 24 And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen (A glorious sight to behold.). 25 And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates; 26A bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, round about the hem of the robe to minister in (very special to come before God); as the LORD commanded Moses. 27And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons, 28 And a mitre (turban) of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen breeches of fine twined linen, 29 And a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses (All of Aaron s sons were going to minister as a representative of the people.).

30 And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD (A holy crown not to be worn by anyone except the High Priest. The High Priest was glamorously attired and was an example for the people to dress up as they came before God.). 31 And they tied unto it a lace of blue, to fasten it on high upon the mitre; as the LORD commanded Moses. 32Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they (Will God say this about His people you have done all that God commanded?). Say Moses inspects the work as if bringing it before God. Remember the workers were given the wisdom of God to do the construction and the people were eager to do the work of God for God had prepared their hearts to put all they had into the construction. 33And they brought the tabernacle unto Moses, the tent, and all his furniture, his taches, his boards, his bars, and his pillars, and his sockets, 34 And the covering of rams' skins dyed red, and the covering of badgers' skins, and the vail of the covering, 35The ark of the testimony, and the staves thereof, and the mercy seat, 36 The table, and all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread, 37 The pure candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light, 38 And the golden altar, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging for the tabernacle door, 39 The brasen altar, and his grate of brass, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot, 40 The hangings of the court, his pillars, and his sockets, and the hanging for the court gate, his cords, and his pins, and all the vessels of the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of the congregation, 41 The cloths of service to do service in the holy place, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and his sons' garments, to minister in the priest's office (There can be no items missing just as God s people today everything must be there when He returns.). 42According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel made all the work (Everything was ready and they had made everything according to the pattern given to Moses by God.). 43 And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.(how happy Moses must have been for there were not many times he could say those words.) Exodus 40 Say We will read of the order of how everything was set up. Nothing that is unholy can come before the Throne of God. 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle (tent) of the tent of the congregation. 3 And thou shalt put

therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail. 4 And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it (6 loaves of unleavened bread in each pile); and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light (meaning set up or mount the lamps) the lamps thereof. 5 And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door (entrance) to the tabernacle. 6 And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. 7And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein. 8And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate. 9 And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy. 10 And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy. 11 And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot (base), and sanctify it. 12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash (bathe) them with water. 13 And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office (This was the first time ever done.). 14 And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats: 15 And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations (as long as they follow God s instructions). 16 Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he. 17And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up (What a way to begin the year; it was on the new moon which they observed and added to the day as well.). Say Can you imagine the excitement when completion day of the Tabernacle finally arrived? First the Tabernacle was set up and then the ark with the testimony/ten Commandments where God would dwell in the most holy place. Next would be the vail, then the table of showbread, the candlestick and the alter of incense in the holy place and the hanging of the door. Next the alter of burnt offering and the laver was set in the courtyard and the hanging for the gate. 18And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars. 19 And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses. 20 And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat (cover) above upon the ark: 21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.

22 And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side (opposite side) of the tabernacle northward, without the vail. 23 And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses. 24 And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward. 25And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses. 26 And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail: 27 And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses. 28 And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle. 29 And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses. 30 And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal. 31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed (as in baptism) their hands and their feet thereat: 32 When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses (We are not to come dirty before God. We must be physically and spiritually clean or forgiven of our sins.). 33 And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished (all) the work. Say - All the people gathered around the Tabernacle and watched as the Cloud descended and covered the Tabernacle; the Cloud was a token or sign of God s Divine presence where He had placed His name. 34Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 36And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys (this continued until Moses death and then the ark took the place of the cloud and went before them; the Bible tells us And Joshua spake unto the priests saying, take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people Joshua 3:6). 37 But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. 38 For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys (For 40 years this is what the 12 tribes of Israel did; God never left His people. It is the Tabernacle which later became the Temple of God not the Temple of man. Also read Zechariah 2:4-5.). MEMORY VERSE And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: Exodus 40:36 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS AND YOUTH

SETTING UP THE TABERNACLE GOD SPOKE TO MOSES AND SAID, ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE FIRST MONTH YOU SHALL SET UP THE TABERNACLE AND YOU SHALL PUT THE ARK, THE ARK COVER AND THE VAIL IN THE MOST HOLY PLACE ; IN THE HOLY PLACE BRING THE TABLE OF SHEWBREAD, THE CANDLESTICK AND LIGHT THE LAMPS AND YOU SHALL SET THE ALTER OF GOLD FOR THE INCENSE BEFORE THE ARK; PUT THE HANGING ON THE DOOR OF THE TABERNACLE. GOD CONTINUED TO MOSES, PUT THE ALTAR OF BURNT OFFERING BEFORE THE DOOR OF THE TABENACLE AND SET THE LAVER BETWEEN THE ALTAR AND THE TENT AND PUT WATER IN THE LAVER ; SET UP THE COURTYARD AND HANG UP THE HANGING AT THE COURT GATE AND TAKE THE ANOINTING OIL AND ANOINT THE TABERNACLE AND EVERYTHING WHICH IS INSIDE TO MAKE IT HOLY. TAKE ALSO THE ALTAR OF BURNT OFFERING AND ALL THE VESSELS AND MAKE HOLY THE ALTAR AND THE LAVER THAT IT SHALL BE HOLY; NOW BRING AARON AND HIS SONS TO THE DOOR OF THE TABERNACLE AND WASH THEM WITH WATER FROM THE LAVER ; PUT ON AARON THE HOLY GARMENTS AND ANOINT HIM THAT HE MAY MINISTER UNTO ME IN THE PRIEST S OFFICE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS WAS EVER DONE. ALSO BRING HIS SONS AND PUT THEIR GARMENTS ON AND SANCTIFY THEM. MOSES DID EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO ALL THAT GOD COMMANDED HIM; ON THE FIRST MONTH IN THE SECOND YEAR ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH THE TABERNACLE WAS PUT UP.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE EXCITEMENT WHEN THE COMPLETION DAY OF THE TABERNACLE FINALLY ARRIVED? MOSES PUT UP THE TABERNACLE AND FASTENED THE SOCKETS, SET UP THE BOARDS AND PUT THE COVERING OF THE TENT UPON IT. MOSES TOOK THE TESTIMONY OR THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AND SET THEM IN THE ARK AND PUT THE COVER UPON THE ARK; HE SET UP THE VAIL OF THE COVERING JUST AS GOD HAD COMMANDED HIM TO DO. MOSES PUT THE TABLE IN THE HOLY PLACE AND SET THE BREAD IN ORDER UPON IT BEFORE THE LORD; HE PUT THE CANDLESTICK IN THE TENT AND LIGHTED THE LAMPS; HE PUT THE GOLDEN ALTER OF INCENSE AND BURNT INCENSE TO GOD AND PUT THE HANGING AT THE DOOR OF THE TABERNACLE IN THE COURTYARD MOSES PUT THE ALTER OF BURNT OFFERING BY THE DOOR OF THE TABERNACLE; MOSES SET THE LAVER BETWEEN THE ALTER AND THE DOOR OF THE TABERNACLE AND PUT WATER IN IT TO WASH. MOSES AND AARON AND HIS SONS WASHED THEIR HANDS AND FEET JUST AS GOD HAD COMMANDED; TO DO THE WORK OF GOD WE MUST BE PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY CLEAN BY ASKING FORGIVENESS OF OUR SINS. MOSES HAD FINISHED THE WORK; ALL THE PEOPLE GATHERED AROUND THE TABERNACLE AND WATCHED AS THE CLOUD DESCENDED AND COVERED THE TABERNACLE; THE CLOUD WAS A SIGN OF GOD S DIVINE PRESENCE AND THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILLED THE TABERNACLE. WHEN THE CLOUD WAS TAKEN UP OVER THE TABERNACLE, THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL MOVED ON WITH THEIR JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND; THE CLOUD OF THE LORD WAS UPON THE TABERNACLE BY DAY AND FIRE BY NIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF ALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL FOR 40 YEARS; WHAT A WAY TO BEGIN THE YEAR!
