SS. PETER & PAUL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER December 2017 Issue From the Principal: Dear Parents and Guardians, The holy season of Advent begins on December 3. The days of Advent help us to prepare for Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Jesus. We are reminded of God s faithfulness and of how deeply committed He is to us. Advent is a time filled with God s grace when we are invited to reflect deeply on His love for us and on His presence to us. May we find many opportunities during the next four weeks to grow in our relationship with God. During these weeks many things like candles, lights, trees, decorations, cards, gifts remind us of the secular aspects of Christmas. We are challenged to center our lives and hearts on Jesus, the reason for our celebrations. A committee of our teachers will meet at the end of November and plan ways for us to celebrate the season of Advent at Ss. Peter and Paul School. Advent wreathes are visible in our classrooms and in the school reminding us of the four weeks of Advent. The students will remember some of the key figures who prepared for the coming of Jesus by placing the symbols on the Jesse Tree. Our daily prayer in the mornings will center on people like Abraham, Isaiah, Jonah, David, Solomon, Jacob, Elizabeth, John the Baptist, Joseph, and Mary. The National Junior Honor Society is collecting small toiletries to for the Perry Housing Project. We thank the students in this society, as well as their advisor Mrs. Jurkowski, for their involvement in this service project. The students are encouraged to do good deeds during Advent. Faculty and students will be attending the 9:00a.m. Mass on December 8, as we celebrate the Holyday of Obligation, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Mary is such an important role model for us as we grow in faith and love. The X-STREAM Games and Expo is taking place on Sunday, December 3, at St. Joseph Collegiate Institute 12:00-3:30p.m. We will have students in the Science Scrimmage, in the Video Gaming Venue, the Roller Coaster Gallery Walk, and in the Kitchen Chemistry Cook-Off. We invite all of our families to attend this STREAM event. Thank you to all the parents who help in our school in so many ways the homeroom parents, the family who counts Campbell labels and box tops with the students that help, the parents who volunteer as lunch monitors, the parents who help with various activities for the students, the parents who are the Parents Guild officers. Thank you to our coaches! Thank you to the parents who attend the meetings of the Parents Guild. If you have not attended, please consider attending future meetings. Thank you to the parents who attended the Student of the Month Breakfast in October, the Induction Ceremony for the National Junior Honor Society, and who helped to chaperone the Middle School Dance. Thank you to the parents who helped the teachers in the classrooms on Halloween. There was a great response to the service project for the Veterans Treats for Troops. Thank you for your generosity. We are also very grateful for the work and advice of our School Board. We were asked to decorate the Winter Castle which is dedicated the night of the Hamburg Holidays event Christmas in the Village. This event takes place the first Friday of December, immediately following the Lighting of the Star at 7:00p.m. The location for this event is in the village of Hamburg Municipal Lot, across from the Hamburg Palace Theater on Buffalo Street. Our art teacher, Miss Gauthier, has been working with a group of students on this artwork. It is a wonderful way to showcase our students art work and also a wonderful way for us at SSPP to partner with the village. I remind everyone that Parent Teacher Conferences take place on December 11. Parents were able to sign up at the Meet the Teacher gathering in September. If you still need to schedule a conference, please contact your child s homeroom teacher. It is important that parents are aware of their child s work as seen on the Parent Portal. Many teachers e-mail parents about the work that needs to be handed in for specific subjects. Please refer to the December calendar for the many events taking place in the school: Mass celebrations, Penance Service, Student of the Month Breakfast, Christmas concert, Santa Secret Shop, and more. The faculty, staff and I extend to you and your family wishes for a peaceful Advent, a blessed and joy-filled Christmas, and a New Year 2018 filled with many graces. We continue to pray for peace. Let it be known to all who enter here that JESUS CHRIST is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever-present teacher in all its classes, the model of its faculty, and the inspiration for its students. AT SS. PETER AND PAUL, A CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SCHOOL, WE continue spiritual growth and understanding of our faith nurture students in an atmosphere of kindness, love, and understanding instill respect for ourselves and others, for we are all children of God educate to the highest standards of learning develop the potential that lies within each student foster communication skills, creativity, and independence

Parents Guild Co President Message Mary Rogers & Leslie Brooks We are off to a great start this year. We have had many successful fundraisers to date and are working hard on many more. SCRIP gift cards make great gifts, get your orders in by 12/11 and have them in time for the holidays! You may bring them in during Parent Teacher Conferences. The Chipotle dine around fundraiser was a great success, thank you to all who attended. For the month of December, we are dinning in with Schwanz. Stay tuned for more information. Coffee sale and Delta Sonic orders are due after the Thanksgiving break so please remember to turn those in. Don't forget Paint Nite with Buffalo Collective 11/30. Santa s secret shop will be held December 7th. Please consider volunteering or baking for this event. Thank you for all you do for the school and our children. We all wish you a Merry Christmas and blessed time off. From Fr. Cole Webster Saint Peter and Paul School Community, Last month we pondered over the first part of our Scriptural theme, what it is to hear the voice of Jesus. The next part of this beautiful text is that Jesus knows us, his sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them December is a wonderful reminder to us that Jesus desires to intimately know us, so much so, that the God of the universe humbled himself to become a human being and live among us! How awesome is that?! Advent is a time of spiritual preparation as we look both behind and ahead. We remember that 2,000 years ago the Creator of the world was born among us. Let us not forget that we still await the coming of our Savior who will return. We often see decorations this time of year depicting joy, peace, and hope. Certainly the birth of God among us is a joyful celebration which brought a peace that only God can give. Our source of hope is knowing that the gates of heaven have been unlocked and that our Lord will return to bring to fulfillment what he began. My prayer is that we take this time of Advent and Christmas to recall what Christ s birth really means for us. How are we different people because of the Incarnation? As parents, faculty, staff, and clergy, may we dedicate ourselves to taking concrete steps to ensure that this gift of faith is passed on to our families and students. Faith and the promise of eternal life is the most important gift you will EVER give. The world is a complicated place, I pray our children will feel in their hearts that solace can always be found in Christ who knows us well and who never leaves our side. A Merry Christmas to all! Fr. Cole P.S. See you and your family at Mass!
