From the Desk of Pastor Alex: It s hard to believe, but this week marks two years that I have been the pastor here at St. John s. In other words, if I wasn t already an official Lawn Guylander, I most certainly am now! The past 24 months have been quite the journey. There have been many joys, blessings, and moments of grace, but there have also been some struggles and plenty of learning opportunities along the way. You know, it s funny how quickly things can change. When I moved here to Lynbrook and began this call, I more or less saw my ministry as a job. It was the final part of my transition into true adulthood and independence, and I knew that I had a lot to learn and a lot to prove as I established my role as your pastor. However, if God has shown me one thing for sure over these past two years, it s that this call is much more than a job. It s a pure gift. Not only has the Lord blessed me with this amazing opportunity to lead our congregation, but He has also given me a second church family, which is something that I am very thankful for. Some people spend their entire lives looking for a community of faith where they feel truly welcomed and a sense of belonging, and I m lucky enough to have two. God is good! So for my article this month, I simply want to say thank you. Thank you for calling me to be your pastor. Thank you for inspiring me with your faith and dedication to this church. Two years may seem like a long time, but we re just getting started. The future is bright here at St. John s, and I look forward to walking with you in faith as we answer God s call in this place together. See you in worship!

St. John s Congregation, Donations have been made to the St. John's Memorial Fund in memory of Bob Kaempf by his estate and Dick Roth by Carol Clemente Thank you so much for the scholarship. It will help out greatly with my college expenses. Sincerely, Jason Pace Each year, Lutheran Social Services of New York strives to provide struggling families with food, especially at the Holiday Season. What goes unnoticed is that during the summer months there is also a decrease in the amount of food and associate items that is donated. If you could look for items on sale and bring them to church through the summer, we at St. John s will again be helping many others. And, if possible, don t forget to collect baby items and coupons to help the New Life Center at Lutheran Social Services as well. Peace and love, The Evangelism Committee We received a thank you from New Life Center for the clothing and the 79 lbs. of food we sent this past spring! Thank you again and again! From the Chair of the Property Committee (Dotty Criscuolo) Many members of the congregation may not be aware that there is no actual Property Committee. As chair, when someone reports a problem or I find a problem, I ask someone in the congregation who has the skill needed to look at the issue and see how we can resolve it. If you have any skill that you feel could be an asset to help maintain or repair a problem I would love to hear from you. It would be great if you love to garden, to help weed or trim the shrubs, to paint, etc. Just speak with me if you would like to volunteer your services or you find a problem within the church properties or grounds. Have a great summer Dotty

Many St. John s members came to enjoy the festivities and we were joined by some members from Grace Lutheran Church in Malverne. It was truly a night of fun, food and fellowship. Summer Opera Benefit Concert! AUGUST 9 TH 4:00 PM PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT ST. JOHN S MINISTERIES OperaRox Presents, a new organization founded by Kimberly Feltkamp and Jaimie Appleton, will present a benefit concert of arias and scenes from its upcoming production of Mozart s famous opera, Le Nozze di Figaro, here at St. John s on August 9th at 4 PM. Tickets will be $10 (suggested donation). OperaRox Presents was founded with the intention of creating opportunities for young opera singers in the New York Metropolitan area. All proceeds from the concert will go to St. John s, who is graciously hosting the company's rehearsals. Le Nozze di Figaro is the story of Figaro, his fiancée Susanna, his master the Count, the Countess, and the pageboy, Cherubino. When the Count Almaviva poses a threat to Figaro s impending wedding, all bets are off in this famous Mozart comedy set to a sparkling libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. The concert will feature Dmitry Glivinskiy on piano, Devony Smith as Susanna, Michael Maliakel as Figaro, Jaimie Appleton as Countess Almaviva, Michael Hoffman as Count Almaviva, Kimberly Feltkamp as Cherubino, Maayan Voss de Bettancourt as Marcellina, and others. OperaRox Presents will perform Figaro in complete on August 21st & 23rd, 2015 at the National Opera Center in New York City, which is located mere blocks from Penn Station.
