Page 4 St. Lambert Parish First Sunday of Advent News Release Archbishop Blase J. Cupich Announces New Name for Regional School Will Be Pope Francis Global Academy Chicago, IL (November 7, 2015) - Archbishop Blase J. Cupich, in conjunction with the parish and school communities of St. Cornelius, Our Lady of Victory, St. Pascal and St. Tarcissus, is pleased to announce the name of the school that will result from the regionalization plan that will incorporate these four Catholic parish schools: Pope Francis Global Academy. The Academy will open on two campuses in the fall of 2016. Nearly 500 individuals reviewed the biographies of potential patrons online, offered their input and shared their recommendation from the four finalists: Pope Francis, Mother Teresa, St. Francis and Blessed Frederic Ozanam. It is vital that we, as responsible Catholics, provide the opportunity for future generations to have access to a Catholic education, said Archbishop Cupich. The decision to create this new school is a tangible representation of our continuing commitment to benefit our children, their families, our faith and civic communities. This new beginning on the northwest side of Chicago is but one of the first steps we are taking to build a sustainable system that ensures a transformative Catholic education in Chicago, Cook and Lake Counties. Pope Francis Global Academy will have a curriculum program designed to deliver a rigorous math and science program, world language instruction and a focus on humanities. The two campuses will offer all grade levels, preschool through eighth grade, and will be located in Portage Park at St. Pascal, 6143 West Irving Park Road, and in Gladstone Park at St. Tarcissus, 6040 West Ardmore Avenue. St. Cornelius, 5430 West Foster Avenue, and Our Lady of Victory, 5212 North Laramie Avenue, will also sponsor the new school and all four parishes will support Pope Francis Global Academy. Dr. Jim Rigg, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, said, This bold vision for Catholic education embodied in the new Academy, is a testament to the proud history and culture of Archdiocesan parishes and schools. We are strong communities of faith, working together for the greater good. The traditions of all four schools will be incorporated in the new school while we move forward with academic programs that will enhance the curriculum, provide greater access to technology and offer diverse enrichment opportunities. This will make Pope Francis Global Academy a highly attractive educational choice for parents. The Archdiocese of Chicago school system of 230 schools is the largest private school system in the nation and has the greatest number of U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon awards of any school system of any kind. Catholic education is an essential ministry of the Archdiocese of Chicago which is committed to continuing its tradition of providing an excellent academic and faith-filled education. Jesus said This is my Body and This is My Blood. Some say they are merely symbols of remembrance. Others say They re really the Body and Blood of Christ, but can t explain how that s possible.
