From the Pastor I m thinking of the old proverb It takes a village as I think of our Christmas Masses and celebrations. Truly, it does take a village of people to plan, arrange, and successfully complete all that has to be done. Cambridge, MA Thanks to all of our Saint Peter School community faculty, administration, parents, volunteers and students, for a wonderful presentation of their Christmas Pageant. Recalling the Gospel story of the birth of Christ with lots of songs sprinkled in was prayerful, beautiful, and fun. Thank you also for your generosity in the various donation and support programs that were organized. Thanks as well to all who helped with the parish celebrations of Advent (especially the Giving Tree program) and the planning, cleaning, decorating and presentation of our Christmas celebrations. It was wonderful to welcome parishioners, friends of the parish, and visitors to our Christmas Masses with warm greetings, beautifully proclaimed Scriptures, vigorous singing accompanied by brass, strings, and keyboard, and, of course, the sharing of the very life of Jesus in the Eucharist. Christmas and New Year Blessings to all! Solemnity of Mary The Holy Mother of God Holy Day Mass Tuesday, January 1, 9:00 a.m. Please join us for Mass on January 1 at 9:00 a.m. in celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of God. The Council of Ephesus in 431 declared Mary Theotokas (Gr. God bearer), an assertion of Christ s divinity. Sacramental Life in December Let us pray for and recognize all those who were buried from our parish. In Memoriam George Keleher Mary Filoso Great Local Volunteer Opportunity Harvard Square Churches Meal Program Volunteers Needed Now - January 31 The Harvard Square Churches Meal Program serves a nutritious sit-down dinner to over 120 guests at Christ Church, 0 Garden Street, every Thursday evening. Our parish has filled in for many years while regular college volunteers are on break. If you are interested in helping out, we need to send 5-6 volunteers each week from now to January 31. Volunteers need to arrive by 4:45 p.m. and finish at 7:30 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals and families with older children. To sign up for one or more of the weeks please contact Anna Molettieri at 617-547-4235 x117 or amolettieri@saintpetercambridge.org. Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul The Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul meets bimonthly and leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. The wooden boxes at our church s exits are easy ways for parishioners to contribute to our mission. Efforts to date include fuel assistance, rent subsidy, food and vouchers for parish households in need, support for the Harvard Square Churches Meal Program, and support for out-of-state and international relief efforts. We invite new women and men to join. All are welcome. We are young and old, from every background. Please call or email us if you are interested or want to learn more: 617-547-4235 x113 or stvincent@saintpetercambridge.org. Pope Tweets @Pontifex God enters history and does so in his original style: surprise. The God of surprises always surprises us. December 20, 2018 May the symbols of the nativity scene and the Christmas tree allow a reflection of God s light and tenderness to enter into family life. December 21, 2018 4
