However, now it is time to get down to business. Walter, Michael, Liz, Heidi and I have many great ideas planned for this term and, with your help, it will be a success. Something we are continuing is the Brotherhood Program. We had a few people who participated this last year; however, I know we can do better. Remember to bring your Brotherhood Books everywhere you go and, if you did not receive one at Conclave, please see any of the Jurisdiction Officers for a booklet so you can start getting points as soon as possible. As I said last year, we must show the world which Jurisdiction is the best; it is time to put Southern California Jurisdiction back on top. For those of you who are unaware, we are very close to achieving positive growth this year. Because of this, I encourage each Chapter to promote our Order throughout their areas. If each Chapter brings in at least one member between now and New Year, then there is no reason why this goal would be out of reach. I encourage all of you to get active in your Leagues, and to stay active in this Jurisdiction. Remember to show your support and spirit for your League, as we will be looking for the League that shows the most spirit all year long for our spirit award winners next year. As you all know, we are currently in Installation season. Because of this, make sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming Chapter installations. I am looking forward to seeing you, your members, and prospects around this Jurisdiction. If you guys have any questions, concerns, or would simply like to talk, please do not hesitate to come up and see me at any time. I hope everyone is as excited as I am for the year to come and I hope everyone will remember that Brotherhood Never Dies! Sincerely, Tyler Davies SCJ DEPUTY MASTER COUNCILOR What s Up SCJ! I hope all of you had a great time at Conclave. Once again I would like to thank all of you who elected me to be your Deputy Master Councilor for this upcoming term. I will show you that you made the right decision to vote for the fro! It will be my duty this year to serve this Jurisdiction with great pride and leadership and represent all of you in my travels to the many trips we have planned. Two things I want to encourage all of you to do are to push membership and get involved with the Brotherhood Program. Ever since I joined DeMolay, I ve always heard previous Jurisdiction Officers talk about membership and it was not until I became an Officer that I realized how important membership is. So I want to make it clear to focus on obtaining new members to make our Order flourish. Another thing is the Brotherhood Program. Brother Davies had to go out of his way to make this program happen this year so this is your opportunity to support your Jurisdiction Master Councilor as well as keep track of your personal activities in DeMolay; not to mention the many prizes you can win at the end of the year. The rest of the Jurisdiction Officers and I are going to make sure that this will be a year that many of you will remember for the rest of your lives. WALTER PIJEAUX November 13: SCJ Football

Page 2 Diamond League League Discussion Dear Brethren and Friends: October 2010 I want to start off by thanking my League brothers for voting me into office as the President for the ensuing term, my Advisors for guiding me in building up my leadership skills, and my parents for helping me with everything that I have needed help with during the years I have been involved with DeMolay. I would especially like to thank my mentor and one of my best friends, Brother Michael Mi-Lo Lopez, our Southern California Jurisdiction Congress Secretary. If it was not for his guidance during my time in DeMolay, I would not be in the position that I am in now. So, to all my friends and brothers I say thank you. My goal for this year, as President and as a brother of our Order, is to show what brotherhood means. I challenge every member to show to all the DeMolays in the world why Southern California Jurisdiction is the best Jurisdiction in the world. We have an awesome team of Jurisdiction Officers, League Presidents, League Vice Presidents and, of course, the Sweethearts and Princesses who add the sweetness to our Jurisdiction. On October 1 st is Liberal Arts' Lock-in. Then on October 9 th, Liberal Arts Chapter is having their Semi-Annual Installation of Officers. Then, in November, there will be a Pancake Breakfast (served by the Diamond League Officers) for the Chevaliers. I look forward to a great year and, in the words of our Southern California Jurisdiction Deputy Master Counselor, friends come and go but DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER! Sincerely, Brother Joe Tabrisky Diamond League President Paradise League Paradise - what s up!?!?! I am so proud of everyone for chanting your hearts out and getting our League the spirit award. I want to thank everyone for their outstanding support for our League and our League Officers. I am ecstatic to be the President of this spectacular set of Chapters and I know we are going to further succeed our goals from last year with a few minuscule additions, including the membership growth of the Chapters, efficient activities, and stronger Chapters. We are going to have a long anticipated Christmas Party with Diamond League and are bringing back the famous Spaghetti Dinner and Auction, as well as the Conclave Kick-Off Dance! You can look forward to having more support from your fellow Chapters this year as they are hosting at least one event each for the League; exciting right?! I can surely say that, with the help of all of our staff and Officers, we can take that step further to make our League s purpose of helping the Chapters an inevitable occurrence. I congratulate everyone who were elected to official positions from the Jurisdiction to the Chapters and I am thrilled to live in Paradise with my all my brothers and DeMolay family. If you want more information on the 5k Walk or desire to volunteer/participate on the walk, please contact Mom Sue Flora at momflora@gmail.com Highland League Hello SCJ! The other Officers are Ted Baker, Sarah Guzman, Ashton Sherman, Adam Kijak, Ian Haas, and Jacob Johnson. Both the League Officers and I have a lot of great events and activities planned for this year. In addition, the League Officers and I will be traveling to other League meetings and activities. We also look forward to bringing new members to DeMolay and sharing the brotherhood that we all enjoy. Joseph Musgrove Highland League President Sonora League Hey everyone, It s great to be starting a new year with new Officers. Sonora League has a lot to offer this year for the Jurisdiction as well as to the Chapters. I am really looking forward to having a great year with everyone. Congratulations to Moreno Valley for winning Chapter of the Year. With their dedicated Advisors, and hard-working Members, it s no wonder! Also, big congratulations to Redlands own Daniel Wallace for being DeMolay of the Year! I, for one, am going to miss him as an active member. Since school is starting, I only have a couple events to plug. On October 15 th, Titan League will be having a Make Your Own Pizza/ Movie Night at Newport Beach Chapter. We will also be holding our first league on October 28 at Newport Beach Chapter. I would like to congratulate Brother Michael Smith for receiving the Distinguished Service Award, and Miss Haley Holmes who received the Sweetheart of the Year Award, and everyone else who received awards at Conclave. I am very proud to be a member of Titan League, especially after the tragedy of Brother James Shea. We all came together and supported all of the members who were close to Brother Shea. This is how we, as DeMolays, should always act. I know this is going to be a FANTASTIC year and I am looking forward to serving this League as President this year. Sincerely, Brother Michael Percival Titan League President 2010-2011

Page 4 Royal Coast League Greetings to all! October 2010 First and foremost, congratulations, not only to all newly elected Jurisdiction and League Officers, but also to the newly installed Officers of Agate and Valley Hills Chapters! It's going to be an amazing year throughout the Jurisdiction, and Royal Coast League will be no exception. Already coming up quick, on October 23 rd, RCL will be hosting our annual Monster Manor event at the Haunted Trails in Balboa Park. A new addition this year, however, is that, immediately following, there will be a lock-in at Southwest Lodge and I would like to extend a formal invitation to everyone for both events. On Saturday, November 6 th, Kimball Chapter will be having their semi-annual Installation at Southwest Lodge in National City, and I hope to see you all there! There will be delectable food, as always, and a dance to follow. It is an honor to be elected President of this great League in the greatest Jurisdiction in the world, and I am expecting grand things from my fellow Presidents and the Jurisdiction Officers. We are going to achieve brand new heights this year together. We have a lot to accomplish before Conclave next year! Page 6 October 2010 Hello Southern California: SCJ Congress Secretary I hope everyone had a great time at Conclave. I am sure it is one of the many memories you will have and continue to remember in the months to come. First of all, I would like to thank the members of this Jurisdiction for electing me as Congress Secretary for this term. As a representative of the Jurisdiction, I will serve this Jurisdiction proudly and humbly to the best of my ability. As Congress Secretary, I am greatly involved with The Preceptor, but I cannot do the job alone. So, if you have any pictures that are good enough to be posted on the Preceptor, feel free to send them to me and maybe they will be posted in the next issue. As you all know, one of the goals for our Jurisdiction is membership and there are plenty of events that not only gather DeMolays from far and wide, but also help prospects know what DeMolay is all about. There are multiple installations throughout the months of October and November, as well as the infamous Shrine Dance on October 22nd (a.k.a. the biggest prospect party of the year). This organization is yours and no one else s. So, if you have any ideas to improve communications, questions about some of the Jurisdiction events, or just want to have a conversation, feel free to come up to me whenever you get a chance. Hope to see you around. Carpe Diem Michael Mi-Lo Lopez Southern California Jurisdiction Congress Secretary Hello SCJ! SCJ Sweetheart I greatly appreciate the opportunity to represent this Jurisdiction for the ensuing term, and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you at your Chapter and League events. I am excited to have the chance to work with Tyler, Walter, Mi-Lo, Heidi, and all the League officers this term; it will definitely be a fun year! I want to encourage you all to show your support for one another and travel to other Chapters events and installations. Do not forget that the Shrine Dance is on October 22 nd ; this is the biggest prospect party of the year, so bring all of your friends and don t forget to dress up! We have a lot in store for you, and we hope you enjoy all we have planned. Sweetheart Hugs and Zebra Kisses, Elizabeth Gallina SCJ Sweetheart 2010-2011 Hello DeMolays, SCJ PRINCESS First of all, I would like to thank everyone who voted for me to be SCJ Princess. I am looking forward to a great year working with the other SCJ officers. I had a great time at Conclave and I hope everyone else who was there did as well. Last year s Officers did a great job at putting everything together for the event and, if you enjoyed it as I did, do not forget to thank them. Elizabeth and I have some great plans for the Sweetheart's Program this year that I know the Sweethearts, as well as the boys, can enjoy. Installation season is here and I look forward to seeing everyone as I travel around to the different Chapters. I am looking forward to a great year, not only because of the great Officers we have this year, but because of the hard work every one of the boys puts into this organization. With all my Princess love, Heidi Finnefrock

The Preceptor Page 7 From The Jurisdiction Dad So, another term begins full of promise and possibilities. I would like to take one last look back at last year. I hope everyone was able to find some enjoyment at Conclave. We should all thank Dad Lyle and last year s Officers for all of their hard work. In all of our excitement, we did forget to take care of one piece of business; recognizing and thanking everyone for their support for Relay for Life. I would like to thank Mom Flora for all of the time she put in while heading up this committee. Without Mom Flora, we would not have experienced so much success. Titan League led all other Leagues in total money raised at $1,955. Highland came in second in money raised with $1,150. Let s see if we can get all of the Leagues to participate this year and raise even more money! The first Jurisdiction event of the term is SCJ Football on November 13 th. Let s start this term off on the right foot with a strong turn -out. Along with the opportunity to compete to be named best players in SCJ, this is also an opportunity to show the real DeMolay spirit of Brotherhood. We need to remember that Brotherhood must come first, before winning. At all times, good sportsmanship needs to be demonstrated. So, let s go out there and have some fun. The Officers just took the first trip of the year to San Francisco for Grand Lodge. After a long drive through the night, the Officers spent Saturday morning roaming Fisherman s Warf. At the Warf, they enjoyed shopping, watching the sea lions and eating clam chowder in sour dough bowls. Walter was so enthralled with the sea lions; he is going to do some research to find out more about how these animals live. On Sunday morning, Tyler delivered his speech to Grand Lodge. Most Past Jurisdiction Master Councilors consider the speech at Grand Lodge to be the toughest speech of the year. Tyler did an incredible job, performing like a seasoned veteran. After the Grand Installation, we all piled back into the van for the long ride home. Everyone arrived home exhausted but with many good memories. Thank you, Dad Peterson Greetings to my SCJ DeMolay Family! FROM THE E.O. As we start our new 2010-2011 term in SCJ, I want to thank everyone involved, especially, our retiring Officers, Max, Tyler, Kenny, Liz and Rachel, for a banner year; you guys were awesome! Your great team work will serve as an example to our new group of Officers that good communications between the team members is essential to be successful. We know that our new Officers, Tyler, Walter, Mi-Lo, Elizabeth & Heidi, have what it takes to continue to raise the bar for SCJ. The fact that we re coming up on another calendar year obtaining positive growth of our membership, if we can obtain this wonderful goal, it will be the first time in many years that SCJ has had back to back years of positive growth in our membership. So, we all need to pull together and make this happen! Growing our membership and brotherhood go hand in hand if we re to be best. This year, our Officers have an advantage, they had a great Elected Officers Training Retreat Weekend (getting to know the League leaders and setting up SCJ s calendar of activities), before being installed. The leadership training they all received has given them the opportunity to hit the ground running as a complete leadership team, Jurisdiction and Leagues, working together right after Conclave. As we prepare to travel north to represent our Jurisdiction at Grand Lodge, we re looking forward to hearing our Jurisdiction Master Councilor, Tyler Davies, as he brings greetings from SCJ. Once again, all of our Jurisdiction Officers, along with our SCJ Dad and Director of Sweethearts, will be attending the youth session at Grand Lodge. Of course, our Officers will also get a chance to see a little of San Francisco while they are there. The next major event they will be attending is Grand Chapter for the Order of the Eastern Star in October in Visalia, followed by attending the Nor-Cal Convention in Sacramento during Thanksgiving Weekend at the end of November. As you can see, our Jurisdiction Officers will be very busy representing SCJ for the next 3 months. Let s reach out and assist them whenever possible, as they visit your Chapters and Leagues. I m excited by the thought of SCJ having another banner year. Our Officers have the ability to make it happen, and our adult staff is ready to assist them in getting it done since they re all in agreement that our youth is the #1 Priority! Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank all of you for your wonderful support and prayers for Mom Key and I during our difficult times battling her illness. Fraternally, Just Dad Key
