Quest for World Peace and Universal Brotherhood in the Poetry of (M. A., B. Ed., UGC-NET) Department of English & MEL, The University of Allahabad, Allahabad, India. Abstract- World peace or universal compatibility is one of the most discussed topics of the post modern era. It is a state of compromise where nations can live a state of freedom, goodwill and development. The whole world is suffering from animosities which are putting hindrances in economic, social and cultural development. Politicians are busy in making peace while militants are creating miscreant notions in the society. The whole world is living under the threat of terrorism, regionalism, communalism, racism, and several other problems. The world needs some visionary writers who can lead this lunatic world to universal brotherhood and show the right path for world peace. The existence of human being is in hands of human beings. After the Second World War, the whole world started developing as a global village. The two world wars destroyed the very foundation of human civilization, culture, and sense of humanity. The annihilation on of deep rooted sense of superiority caused writers to voice for universal brotherhood and world peace. There is a cult of poets in India that is advocate of universal brotherhood and for the peace of the world. Kazuyosi Ikeda, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Syed Ameeruddin, S. C. Dwivedi, A. K. Chaudhary, R. C. Dwivedi, R. K. Singh, and are some of the writers who write for world peace and universal Brotherhood. Poets who have been writing for the betterment of nature, Earth environment, culture, tradition, education, humanity universal brotherhood and would peace. Some of them are scientists who know how the science is destroying environment and human relations. Kazuyosi Ikeda, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and are scientists professionally but humanist and champion of world peace literarily. Kazuyosi Ikeda is an award winning Japanese poet and scientist. He has published several collections of poems. His vision is humanistic and he advocates for the world peace. He writes poems in English to make this earth a better for our livelihood. Ramesh Chandra Dwivedi is a poet and saint. He writes patriotic poems but tone of his poems is a kind of advocacy of world peace and universal brotherhood. He writes in Hindi and English. He is an award winning poet and short story writer. He has got published a number of poetic collections. Written Words, Shafts of Sunlight and The Melodies of Mother Earth, Por Por, Kavita Vibhour, Mere Yug Ki peera, and Bharat Mata Gram- Vasini are some of his well acknowledged works. He has been a conscious writer for the good health of environment and the Earth. A. K. Chaudhary has one of the strongest voices for world peace and universal brotherhood. He is a conscious against the problems of the world. His vision is to make this world full of love and human values. He is a poet of contemporary feelings. He loves to make this world full of human values. Syed Ameeruddin is an award winning poet of great eminence. He is poet of well acknowledged sensitivity. The tone of his poetry is religious. It is said a religious person is perfect advocate of universal brotherhood, humanism, and world peace. The poem Mind presents a kind of fulfillment: A man can have sufficient riches Fame and fortune of various kinds Yet the peak of peace may remain unseen Without the proper frame of mind. Biplab persuades and suggests us to develop peace of mind and heart so that we can achieve universal peace and sense of humanism. Mind plays very significant role in the maintenance of peace and love on this blue planet. Biplab says every man is born with a definite quality so we must realize our course of life and try to void clash of feelings and ideas to maintain love and peace. He says: Each of us has some inborn ability 58
Each one somewhere distinctly excels, Success, therefore, to find out the field And to have the will excessively excess. Biplab is of the opinion that discipline is one of powerful tools and ideas through which world peace and universal brotherhood can be achieved. It is that quality which has been saving the world till now. The Sun, the Earth, the Moon, and other planets and satellites are disciplined that is why there is peace in the universe. So Biplab says people should be disciplined so that there not be clash of mind which is an epitome of world peace. The whole humanity has same sensibility. Biplab says: Discipline makes one tough as an anvil That does not bother the blow of hammer. The storms of life he cares little As it makes him significant harder. Biplab does not like lethargic ideals and persons because one of the worst things found on this Earth. His aim is to instruct people to work hard which is important for our progress. If anybody is not diligent, his aim will not be fulfilled. Man should do his work provided to him which should be done with full enthusiasm. Whatever may be your Job as a working bee Love the work, serve the world, whoever you may be, Biplab has great sense of action which is very valuable for our life. He seems talking like a saint when he says: 59
Nothing is permanent in the would Life dwindles in light and shade A man cannot escape his thought His own actions make his fate. The sense brotherhood invokes us to lead a life full of activity without malice and jealousy. In a poem titled as patriotism, Biplab defines and clarifies the meaning of patriotism. According to him national flag, national bird, respect of national song, cultures, values, history, and even government is patriotism. But he warns us against the narrow sense of patriotism which is dangerous for world peace and universal brotherhood. He says: Narrow patriotism may cause a war Therefore, make it a bit more broader; True patriotism ever endears neighbour Respects humanity as a global lover Love, respect for other, tolerance, understanding, kindness, and affection are some of the human values which are very powerful elements for the world peace and universal brotherhood. The people of the world that are very diverse in culture, feeling, emotion, tradition, atmosphere must understand one thing which is sympathy through which universal brotherhood can be achieved and world peace can be established. Maturity of mind and education is necessary for development of sympathetic feelings and hearts. We must try to respect feelings of others. Aggression of mind and body is very dangerous. Biplab says: A nature heart is always benign As a big tree grows from within 60
Full of kindness, tolerance divine Mature is he, a human fine. Biplab is of the opinion that the world is a place where people have come to show and see feelings and emotions. This function of show and see incites mutual relation. People should always be aware of their commonsense which is not a theory or a gift of god but a kind of practice which we must always perform. The roots of mankind are very deep so we must realize our dignity and goodness. Biplab excavates this root in his poetry and says: The tried, tested path of mankind We must treat on when we need Life is a journey towards LIGHT Where commonsense can prudently lead. Love is very significant part of human life. Love here does not mean what generally understood by youths. The love of humanity must be in our vein and blood. There are various kinds of lover. But Biplab talks such love as can be useful for the maintenance of world peace and universal brotherhood. He says: Love is said the wheel of life And the world moves on it Love does bear the fain supreme Brings the heaven at our feet. 61
It is a strong step which will be better for the existence of mankind. Man has become enemy of man. For this enigmatic world such lines are very useful. Biplab writes: Love is called miracle medicine That can heal up a mortal wound Against hatred, fear and sin Its philosophy is surely profound. ** ** ** Love is considered a beautiful bouquet Where humility friend ship and tolerance Uniformly smile as colourful flowers To fill the world with sweet fragrance. The rhetoric of Biplab is so strong that even a frantic can understand and bow his head for the welfare of the world. Biplab writes: The only atomic power of love Can be a retort to atom-bomb Spread the power for sake of you Or the world would be a tomb ** ** ** Love is known as a dove of peace Should be flown to neighbour s sky So the flag of international relation Can flutter gaily, placed forever high. 62
Biplab has a rational mind to present everything clear cut. His religious back ground provides him a kind of confidence to assert everything a spade and a spade. Once he says: From the depth of my heart I think of the welfare of common people, for the betterment of human relations. These may be any humble contribution, but I firmly believe in the innate goodness, honesty, and ethical values of human beings that emanate from out centuries and told civilization. Through my thoughts, deeds, creativity I work incessantly for international understanding, peace and brotherhood. (Literary Legend speaks) This modern would full of materialistic guests has created a kind of clash of culture, history and the most important thing ego. Every human being on this earth is craving for self satisfaction. Often people get tremendous mental sock when they do not get what they craved for. Biplab have loving heart of humanity. He writes: Because I have seen When blood oozes out From the wounds of the world Sacred souls Shiver severely And I believe A man is indebted To his soil Even today. Only In the heart of others (Cosmic Convergence) It is said heart of a poet is very sympathetic, emotional, loving, creative, full of human values, compassionate and visionary. Biplab has a heart which can feel the pain and plight of the world and humanity. His feelings for the world peace and universal brotherhood are well explored in his poetic expressions. He writes: Because a poet Cries in cocoon At the sight of human plight He bleeds most when Innocent lives are killed He suffers stoically when Tyranny tramples the Flag of freedom. He sobs silently when Hunger hinges to Lone faces of life He seeks serene solitude Within his Lake of lotus. (Cosmic convergence) Biplab does not feel the distinction among the countries of the world. He is of the opinion as there are several states and regions in a country that is same with the world. The whole world is a country called as global village. He writes: 64
In belief of bereaved breath that Comes from the North Though I know there is no Distinction of North south In the sky, Man with mythical minds Creates them to believe as true, and Follows the footprints of future. (Cosmic Convergence) Poets are products of this society where atrocities are done with human beings. This ideal is well explored in the poems of. According to him poets are source of inspiration for this world. A poet works for the welfare of human beings. The task of a poet is to enlighten the world which is full of misadventures and ideologies. Poets are born to teach the world what to do not to do. A poet has great sense of instruction what a scientist always needs. In the eighteenth century England Alexander Poet taught the world how the humanity is only subject all things. Biplab Writes: Poets are worshippers Eternal worshippers of truth To enlighten world (Golden Horizon) The heart of a poet is different from a scientist. A poet is always visionary while a scientist is methodical. Poets try to reform the society through their voice. If 65
a poet sees some problem lying around him he cannot resist himself from expressing his thought about it. It is supposed a line of a poet comes from his heart s core. Biplab Writes: Poets, strange creatures Their hearts, most sensitive parts Lie outside their bodies ** ** ** Poet s can t resist Inevitable blows of reality They bleed through verses (Golden Horizon) The poet is full of enthusiastic ideals and he ever sees the physical or material love which must be full of universal brotherhood. The world is under prick of terrorism, communalism, religious atrocities, and regionalism body. The poet says that the world is full of hate and indifference: Even today many a love of this earth get dried in indifference at the curse of spoilt stars Being tired uncountable waiting At different parts of the globe Lose colours in this way. The world which we see so simple and loving is full of painful elements. It is so poisonous that one cannot believe. There is only dejection and passionate illness is the hearts of the people. Every person on this earth is lacking real or close friend. Everyone who comes in contact with other is only having selfish thought. Following lines are expression of deep angst rooted in Biplab heart: Friends are leaving one by one, being Lonely day by day Enemies are taking their positions Gorgeous preparations are going on, there Will be celebration of failure Hard times on each bones, coming forward The red hot stream of lave under this inauspicious hour who live with pressing laws are all my Friends (Island s Dolphin Song) wants to turn aside every kind of vices from the world which is inauspicious for the world peace and universal brotherhood. He writes: Wish to mop up the grains of jealousy from all human hearts Wish to extinguish all burning candles of selfishness with a single puff Salty pang absorbed in blood gradually, why the invitation of alphabets embrace me 67
so intimately? Scratching on the breasts of smoothness how severely sharp nails caused would last night. (Island s Dolphin Song) In this way it can be said that is a powerful voice against the problems lying around us. He wants to make a world abound in universal brotherhood and world peace. He has voiced against the illness of our society. He is like Matthew Arnold who criticized the society to reform it. So is true champion of Universal Brotherhood and World Peace.
