Together on the Journey Fairport United Methodist Church 31 W Church St., Fairport, NY 14450 585.223.9560 www.fairportumc.org 3 rd Sunday after Epiphany January 21, 2018 To nurture ALL people on their life journeys and to bring God s love to the world. Welcome to Worship today! Welcome! We are delighted to welcome all in our Christian community. We invite all to journey with us in ministry and mission. Please indicate a desire to join us by contacting the pastor. Stop by our welcome table in the narthex for further information and stop in the parlor for a cup of coffee between services! Persons with some difficulties hearing, but who do not wear hearing aids, can find receiver/earbuds on the table in the parlor. Feel free to bring your own earbuds. LARGE PRINT hymnals, bulletins and Bibles are available; please ask an usher. FUMC is a Reconciling Congregation where all persons of any age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnic origin, economic reality, family status, sexual orientation, diverse ability or social status are welcome without reservation to share in God s love. Flowers on the Lord s Table are to the glory of God from Roger and Sandy Millard. Fellowship Opportunities Deborah Circle will meet on Wednesday, January 24; Pastor Ted will be sharing about his trip to Cuba. Mark your calendars for 11:30am on February 11 and prepare to Get WILD about God! at the Annual Church-wide Carnival! Enjoy games, crafts, the Cake Walk and a lot of fun! Tickets can be purchased 5/$1 the day of the carnival. Different ministries will host booth/games. This is a great way to meet new people. Invite a friend to join you! Service Opportunities Beyond These Walls - The monthly meal program for Sanctuary House and the Francis Center homeless shelters is continuing in 2018, and we appreciate your ongoing donations of food items. Please see the sign-up 1

list today on the hall bulletin board to donate an item or two. Anyone interested in serving meals at the shelters should contact Rick Hessney, BTW coordinator, 585-633-0057, rhessney@gmail.com. General Announcements Soup Sale orders will be taken over the next two Sundays, Jan 28 & Feb 4. Soup will be distributed at the Winter Carnival on Feb 11 and the proceeds will benefit this year's Reach mission trip to New Berlin, NY. Look for more details next week! Save the date for Finance Town Hall meetings next Sunday at 10am and 11:30am in room 204. Our financial state will be reviewed. You can place flowers on the Lord's Table in remembrance of a special date or person. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the main office. Jane or Terrie will call you to get your details. The cost is only $20, and you get to take home the flowers after the second service. Perinton Food Shelf needs: salad dressings, cooking oil, ketchup, mustard, cereal, sugar, pancake mix, laundry detergent, dish washing soap, shampoo, canned hash, canned sloppyjoe/manwich, deodorant. Our hymnals (published in 1989) have been well-used from lots of hymn singing over the past 28 years! We needed to replace some of them and fill in gaps in the pews where hymnals and Bibles are missing. In November, we offered everyone the opportunity to purchase a United Methodist hymnal, a Bible, or a Faith We Sing hymnal in memory/honor of a loved one. Thank you for your generous response! You will notice some new green hymnals. Worship & Song is a new companion hymnal that supplements our existing hymnals (none of the hymns are duplicated between the UM Hymnal, FWS, and W&S). Sue Golembeski and her siblings donated the Worship & Song hymnals in memory of her sister, Elaine. We are blessed to have a connection with three churches in Kansas through Rev. Willy Yumba Banza. We have been partnering with Rev. Willy as part of the Kamina Friends project in the DRC since our first visit to Africa in 2003. Today he is the pastor of three churches in Topeka, Kansas. Some of our used hymnals will be sent to the Bern, Oneida and Seneca United Methodist churches in Topeka, and we hope they will be a blessing for these new congregations. After worship today and every Sunday, we are invited to step into the parlor for a time of fellowship. 2

Service Music Texts We Are the Hands of Christ No voice to speak his kindness, no eyes to see the pain; No heartbeat of compassion, no empathy remains. How will they hear the message that Jesus is alive? How can they know the truth unless it s through our lives? REFRAIN Christ has no hands except your own To reach the world and make him known. His love can change humanity by your touch alone. Christ has no hands except your own. No truth to scatter darkness, no candle in the night; No warm illumination, no justice, no right. When will we recognize? Open our blinded eyes. We are the lighthouse to shine his light! REFRAIN Touching the desperate, feeling their pain; Reaching the hopeless in Jesus name. Christ has no hands except our own To reach the world and make him known. His love can change humanity by our touch alone. Christ has no hands except our own. No voice, no eyes, no hands except our own. We are the hands of Christ. We Will Follow We will follow Jesus. We will follow him. Wherever he leads us we will follow. One Step He Leads Sometimes I worry and wish I could see What lies ahead, what the future will be. But God calls me on to follow in faith, And He ll take tomorrow if I give Him today. REFRAIN One step He leads and one step I ll follow, God know my needs and He will supply. I don t know the future and all that s in store, So I ll take one step to follow my Lord. Jesus said, Leave all your worries, forget all your cares, What you will eat and what you will wear. But seek first my kingdom and all that is right. Your needs shall be given as you live in the light. REFRAIN CCLI#841086 3
