Faithful Navigator s Message Worthy Sir Knights, Happy New Year Sir Knights! 2016 was a great year for Pope John XXIII Assembly 2984. We increased the number Honor Guard requested that we were able to fill while increasing the number that participated in each request. We increased the number of donations to our veterans, and we continued to grow our bonds of brotherhood and become a closer and stronger Assembly. This month s Assembly Meeting on Tuesday, January 17 th will be our annual Renewal of Obligations, therefore, in doing so, I would like us to ask ourselves as an Assembly, Are we who we say we are? I believe that we truly want to be and, therefore, set as our number #1 goal for this year and challenge the Assembly to achieve the Star Assembly Award. This is the highest award given to an Assembly by Supreme just for meeting the standard expectations of each Assembly. The requirements are very simple: 1) Publish and distribute and minimum of six Assembly Newsletters per fraternal year. 2) Meet the Assembly s new membership goal, with a net gain of 10% over deletions. 3) Earn the Civic Award by conducting a minimum of four patriotic programs during the fraternal year. 4) Complete and submit the Assembly s application for the To Be A Patriot Award by April 30 th. 5) Complete you Officers Chosen forms and Annual Survey on time. If we truly Are who we say we are then this should be a very easy task to achieve. The biggest challenge for each Assembly in fulfilling these very basic expectations is new membership. We need to recruit every 3 rd Degree at each of our Councils every week. There are is a 4 th Degree Exemplifications right in our own backyard in Sarasota this coming April 29 th. There is no time to waste, it will be April before we know it. Finally, happy birthday and service anniversary to all our Sir Knights celebrating in the month of January (Please see page 5 for this month s list). Vivat Jesus, SK Robert Billoni Faithful Navigator 1 P a g e
Letter from the Trustees My Dear Brothers in Christ, HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2017! WOW! The Ambassadors of St. Paul s published its 200th Newsletter and a big Thanks to Fred Baryol for making it #1 and keeping my thoughts under control. "On my honor, as a Catholic Gentleman...". Yes, Sir Knights, on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017, at St. Paul's Family Center @ 7:30 pm, We will be doing our Renewal of Obligations and pledge our allegiance to our Lord, Jesus Christ as Sir Knights of Columbus. The dress attire is formal (tux) with social baldric. Our General Assembly Meeting will follow. Now is the time to plan the first 6 months of 2017 to continue our success as Sir Knights of Columbus. Now is the time to make sure your regalia is in good condition and \ or order your regalia to Honor Christ and His Apostles by carrying your sword and wearing your regalia. Now is the time to ask 3rd Degree members to take the final step and become a Sir Knight of Columbus. The highest level of membership and the most recognized. It is also a time to reflect and ask ourselves how we can do things better. As we renew our obligations to look deeper into the meaning of those obligations. With all the trouble in our world today, now is our time to show the world what being a Sir Knight of Columbus is all about and it starts with Charity and ends with Patriotism with a lot of Fraternity and Unity in between. Happy New Year! And remember, at Pope John XXIII Assembly#2984, the best is yet to come! Your Brother in Christ, SK Tom Wilson, PGK, PFN, FDD, FHGC 3-Year Trustee 2 P a g e
