Vásquez, Retired Bishop John McCarthy, Worthy Master, Reverend Fathers, Sir Knights and Ladies: FN continued Snack Schedule Council Reports Fun Cheer Fund Raising 3 4 Once again we were called to do our duties as Sir Knights with the passing of longtime Sir Knight Frank Wallace. And once again the Sir Knights of our Assembly performed their duties as expected. Sir Knight Wallace was an active member of Council 1017, and was active for a long time in the Assembly. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, friend and Knight. He will be missed. Please continue to pray for his Family. Assembly Prayer List 5 Exemplification Committee Report Fallouts Oct. 3 Red Mass at St. Mary s Cathedral Fallout by 5:30pm for the 6pm Mass 6 Last month at our Business Meeting, I mentioned that Sir Knights should let their wives or other family members know of their final wishes as far as the Fourth Degree is concerned. Many times those wishes are unknown, or no one seems to know whom to contact. So, Ladies that are reading, if you do not already know, please ask what those wishes are. If you do not know whom to contact when the time comes, start with the Funeral Home, your Council s Grand Knight, or your Assembly s Faithful Navigator. If he is an insured member with the Knights of Columbus, his Insurance Agent will know what to do and who to contact. Planning for our Exemplification in March is still going on, we need all of your ideas and contacts in several areas. As we get closer to the date we will need a lot of manpower to make this a success. The next planning meeting has not been set as of this report, but I will have a date by our October Meeting. These reports on the Exemplification may not be what interest you, but until more things are finalized it is what will be the dominant point of focus. Start recruiting members from your Council to join, it s never too early to keep asking.

We will fall out at 5:30 pm. November 11, 2013 Veteran s Day Parade November 14, 2013 Silver Rose Run Austin Diocese It was an honor to attend the fallout for SK Frank Wallace. SK Frank was very active in the Knights. I am proud of the Sir Knights and Brother Knights that attended the rosary and funeral. I know SK Frank s family appreciated the Knights that offered their condolences and prayers. I ask that we keep SK Frank Wallace and his family in your prayers. I would like to thank all of the Sir Knights that fell-out for the St. John Neumann Parish Homecoming. We had 14 Sir knights that fell out. The homecoming allowed many ministries to recruit new members. The celebration was well attended. From a article from the Catholic News Agency: The pontiff emphasized the importance of working within the Church to be models of faith, saying The world needs our witness to God s plan for the unity, reconciliation and peace of the whole human family. Sir Knights, we are the visible part of the Knights of Columbus. It is time for us to start recruiting members for our assembly. Fourth Degree Knights promote patriotism. Fourth Degree members are active in their councils. Members are models of our Christian faith. Please start talking to 3rd degree members about our Spring Exemplification in March. Your Brother in Christ, SK Albert Villegas Faithful Captain Exemplification Planning Meeting Our next meeting will be October 15, 7pm in the Fr. Hal Zink Room. See the full 2014 Exemplification Committee Report on Page 6.

On the 11th is Veteran s Day; this is the date of the November Business Meeting day for the Assembly. Traditionally this is one of the Fallouts that we have a lot of participation for. Our Assembly does have the lead on this, with invitations already sent to all the other Austin Area Assemblies to join us. Please continue to pray for all of our Sir Knights and Brother Knights who are in distress. Pray for the members of our military. As the battle over Abortion rights and Legislation continues to be in the news, pray for the innocent lives lost and for those who are taking them to have a change of Heart. Volume 10, Issue 04 Page 4 Fun Cheer Fund Raising Time Again The Cheer season is ready to start in October 2013. Ross and Denise Martin will need the support of Assembly 1099 for the usual handling of the entry fees and other areas of the competitions in Austin and San Antonio. Please review the schedule below and consider the event that you can help the Assembly raise funds so that we can help others; seminarians, golf tournaments, special activities of Supreme, and the Diocese. These cheer events help everyone in the Assembly by not having to pass the hat to cover unanticipated cost. The events also help defer the cost of the Christmas Party for your wives or guest. Also, for your information the events that are sponsored in Denton, Huntsville, Robstown, Austin, and San Antonio are handled by the Knights of Columbus, Assemblies and Counsels. Therefore Fun Cheer and Texas Cheerleader monetarily supports the Knights of Columbus around the State of Texas. Generally the events will start at 9:00 am so please mark your calendar and join your brothers and their wives. More details will be provided at the Assembly Meeting. 1. Page 6 2014 Exemplification Committee Bill Harris and Ed Martin, Co Chairs of the Exemplification Committee. Sir Knights: A group of your brothers are working on putting on an Exemplification on March 22, 2014, at St John Neumann Catholic Church. The Exemplification will be the Centennial Celebration of the Bishop Reicher Assembly 1099. We have met a number of times and are continuing to meet. You are all invited to join us at our next meeting and to participate in our sponsored Exemplification. This Exemplification will require funds to be raised to subsidize the cost involved with putting on the Exemplification and the Banquet for an anticipated 300 people. We have a schedule of things to be accomplished over the next few months and are working on them. A letter has been sent to invite the Bishop to be our celebrant and Major Speaker. Fr. Bud Roland has been briefed on what will take place. Food is being worked by Henry Casas. A hotel has been lined up for out of town guests. At this time, we need Sir Knights of our Assembly to join us at the next meeting and to recruit candidates, to coordinate and propose a Lady Program. We will be attempting to arrive at a budget and determine a method for fund raising possibly including individual or business sponsorships for the banquet. The food cost in Austin, Texas is much higher than the cost in Temple, College Station or Rockdale. According to the District Master, we are only allowed $15 per person to purchase the food, pay for wait staff, and to pay for all the accessories, etc. If you are a cook and can help us with the cooking the lunch please volunteer to help. St. John Neumann does not have enough tables, and does not have utensils, table cloths, napkins, plates and glasses so they must be rented. If you can assist in any of these areas your assistance would be welcomed. At the next meeting, we will be trying to establish an Honoree, who is someone from the Assembly that made a difference. We also need a Historian. If for some reason our Assembly was able to cater the meal we still need a caterer with a license with a beer and wine permit, so there is additional cost and potential income. We can raise some funds during the Exemplification from the Ladies program and from providing a lunch for the Knights and their guests. Perhaps a barbeque beef or pork sandwiches with the fixings could be served for the lunch after the exemplification and before the mass. Please consider the Exemplification and become part of the Centennial Celebration of the Bishop Reicher Assembly 1099. You can contact Bill Harris at blharris621@juno.com or Ed Martin at emartin01@austin.rr.com
