This year he had the local brewers present their craft beer and answer questions from the audience. It was a great evening. Bob was able to raise $1,145.00 for both Care and Share and for the Youth Group. Thanks, Bob.
Bill Venglar directed a very successful second Bob Knowles Memorial Shoot. With more shooters and more sponsors, Bill was able to raise $599.00 for OCEF. He is already working on next year s Third Annual event. Thanks, Bill. I have included a two memo s from Cathy Genovese regarding the Harvest Table Project. May 25, 2017 Dear Gardening Friends, For the past two weeks, Frank did gardening presentations at WOJO's Ortonville and Davison. Now he is anxious to continue teaching and working in our Harvest Table Garden Project. We will resume this Saturday between 10 am and noon, for anyone interested in learning and helping. This Saturday's lessons include discussion of proper spacing, best methods of setting up tomato cages, application of mulch. and weed control. He will be reviewing the progress of the garden since everyone was here last. Things are changing and growing daily. Since the last class, Frank has added cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi, leek, Chinese broccoli, yellow, purple and green beans, burpless cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, pumpkins, honey dews, cantaloupes, European, Oriental and Italian eggplant, etc. Many thanks to Bob White for his coordination efforts and for holding down the fort while Frank was at WOJO's. Have you ever heard of St. Fiacre? He is the Irish monk from the sixth century, who is the patron saint of herbs and vegetable gardens and of people who like to garden. His feast day is August 30. I am certain he will be smiling over our work as we grow the garden to fund many important efforts in the community. Thanks for all the support from our special volunteers, the Knights of Columbus at St. Anne's and the Oakland County Farm Bureau. June 2, 2017 Dear Gardening Friends, The garden continues to delight. Given the warm weather and adequate rain, the little roots are taking hold and feeding the little plants, resulting in noticeable growth. The results of all our weeding and mulching are really paying off in plant vigor. Tomorrow, we will continue to set up tomato cages, apply mulch and weed a few more beds. Frank's teaching has evolved into more of a question and answer session as we all work in the garden together.
Saturday's focus will also turn to some of our favorite herbs, how we use them and how we dry them. Cathy will demonstrate some of her favorite techniques introduce you to some new flavors. We encourage you to bring family and friends. It is so important to teach children where their food comes from and how it grows. (I read today about a survey of done with elementary aged students that 33% did not know that eggs come from a hen.) While we address vegetable growth in the garden, we also like to talk about how food is grown on a massive scale to feed our populations. We at looking forward to seeing you tomorrow between 10 and noon at the Genovese farm. Many thanks to all Knights who currently are, and will be, participating in this great event. The returns from is project have become a major source of funding for our many projects within the community. Special thanks to Bob White, who is helping Frank s vision, become a reality. Deacon Craig Marion, who the Council has supported for the last few years, was ordained Father Craig Marion on Saturday, June 3. God bless Father Craig.
