call to worship The Scriptural call to worship at the beginning of our service reminds us of the centrality of God s Word. God reveals Himself to us through His Word and invites us to respond corporately to Him in worship. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25 26 corporate confession In light of God s holiness, wrath, and grace, we acknowledge that we have all sinned against God and are in need of His sanctifying grace. This confession occurs in the context of a covenant relationship made possible through the perfect life, substitutionary death, and victorious resurrection of Jesus. As Christians, our confession is not so that God should forgive us, but because, through Christ, He has already forgiven us. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. offering Romans 6:12 14 Giving is an act of worship in which the members of Hickory Grove give generously of our substance to further the mission of the church and to bring glory to God. 3
romans sermon series Paul s letter to the Romans was written to clarify the Gospel, encourage believers, and motivate evangelism. It was written to a church trying to live out its Christian faith with a distinctly Christian worldview. Similar to us, they were diverse in their backgrounds and experiences, yet, just like us, they were unified in their belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans is an incredible letter inspired by God and created to lead us to worship the Lord Jesus Christ and to live out the implications of the Gospel together as a church. romans scripture journals We have Scripture Journals available for purchase in our Resource Center to help you study, memorize, and meditate on Romans throughout this series. scripture memory During the Romans sermon series, take the challenge to memorize different verses from Romans. For the month of February the scripture memory passage is Romans 1:16 17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. Romans 1:16 17 (ESV) 4
