And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Thank you for filling out the white information card in front of you. You may put it in the offering plate or give it to an usher as you come forward for communion. Holy Communion. Today, we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. In prayerful preparation for the Table, please read and fill out the Information Card in front of you and give to an usher as you are directed forward. We welcome to this family meal all who have been baptized into the Christian faith, and who believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine offering forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. Children who have not been prepared to receive the Sacrament are invited to come with their family for a blessing. If you are unable to come to the front to receive the sacrament, let an usher know and the elements will be brought to you. If you have a prayer need this morning, you may use the back of the white card in the pew rack and place the request in the Prayer Box in the narthex by the coat rack. You can also submit prayer requests at any time on our website: www.immanuelstorycity.org Today is Food Pantry Sunday. Place your items for the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in the grocery cart in the narthex. Cash donations are also always welcome. Checks can be made out to Immanuel with a notation for the Food Pantry and placed in the offering plate. There will be a time of fellowship in the social hall today following the worship service. Everyone is invited. Next Sunday will be our monthly Improvement Fund offering. This fund is used for capital expenditures to maintain and improve our church buildings. You are invited to stop and wish Margaret Larson Happy 100 th Birthday on Saturday, April 19 from 1-3 P.M. in the Bethany Manor Multi-Purpose Room. Joint Palm Sunday Service. A special worship service sponsored by the Roland-Story Ministerial Association will take place at the High School Auditorium on Palm Sunday, April 13 at 7 P.M. This will be the culmination of the Seek God for the City daily prayer program that all the Roland-Story churches have been participating in during Lent. There will be a mass choir singing. Hope everyone can make it. Lent 2014 Theme The Power of a Whisper As we tune our ears toward heaven, God will direct our steps. We are exploring this important promise together during our Wednesday Lenten Services. Our theme for this week s service will be Whispers that Change the World. A light supper will be served by our Sunday School youth from 6-6:45 P.M. They will be serving Walking Tacos. We pray these services will be a help for your Lenten journey. Maundy Thursday. Have you ever experienced a traditional Passover supper? This year, instead of having the Maundy Thursday worship service in the sanctuary, we will all gather in the social hall at 7 P.M. where we will have samples of foods eaten at a traditional Passover meal and follow the readings used by the typical Jewish family celebrating this festival. At the close of the meal we will share in Holy Communion. Please eat your evening meal before you come. This meal will only be samples of Passover foods. We encourage you to bring a freewill offering for the cost of the food as well as your regular Maundy Thursday offering. All members, especially those 8 or 9 years old and older, are invited to attend. There will be childcare for younger children. Please sign up on the sheet on the table in the narthex so we know how many to plan for. We pray it will be a highlight of your Lenten experience this year. Good Friday. Join us for our Tenebrae Service on Good Friday. We will use illustrations by artist Julie Lonneman to reflect on how Christ s journey to the cross reshapes our lives. To learn more about the artist, go to www.julielonneman.blogspot.com. Various readers and musicians will be needed for the service; talk to Pastor Kurt if you would like to help! Joint Palm Sunday Service Choir Rehearsal. There will be a joint choir rehearsal at Immanuel this afternoon at 4 P.M. for all interested singers in the Roland and Story City communities to prepare for the Joint Palm Sunday service April 13 at the High School Auditorium at 7 P.M. Anyone who wants to sing is welcome. Once again we will have a display of Easter Lilies for Easter Sunday. You may order lilies in honor or in memory of someone at a cost of $10.00 each. Please complete the form located in the bulletin today. The last day to order your Easter Lilies for the display is this Wednesday, April 9. Adult Class Update. John Rathmacher will lead the adult class in the social hall beginning next Sunday morning at 8:30 A.M. He will lead a discussion on the scripture texts assigned for the worship service. Everyone is welcome. The movie Son of God is playing at the Story City Theater tonight at 7 P.M. It s rated PG-13. We encourage our members to see this portrayal of the life of Christ. Riverside Scholarships. We are thankful that Immanuel can give scholarships to all youth who desire to attend Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp during the summer and school year. Our Riverside Scholarship Fund is in need of some extra funds. Please write your checks to Immanuel with a notation for Riverside Scholarships. The Roland-Story after-prom entertainment committee is looking to borrow some bamboo lawn torches for our "Evening in Paradise" after prom party at the high school. They do not need to be in working order and should be labeled so they can be returned. The committee is also looking for empty 2 Liter bottles. They need all these items before April 25.
