Page 2 St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church April 5, 2015 FROM THE PARISH ADMINISTRATOR Dear Friends, Alleluia! Christ the Lord is Risen today! On behalf of Bishop Chappetto, Fr. Kim, Msgr. Finnerty and Deacon Barreneche, I extend to all parishioners and visitors our prayers and blessings on this Easter Day! We are grateful to everyone who helped to make our celebrations during Holy Week so beautiful and prayerful: Tom Sexton, Joe Mahowald, John Castagliola and our children and adult choirs; the lectors and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion; the servers and ushers; those who helped decorate the church; Agnes Rus and Ellen Alderdice, who helped prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation during the Easter Vigil; and all those who participated in the various liturgies that helped us enter into the mysteries of the Lord s Passion, Death and Resurrection. We are also grateful for the parish staff: Pat Freeman, Sr. Bernadette Izzo, Sue Oliver, Anthony Porchetta, Alpiniano Fuentes and the young people who work as evening receptionists and sacristans. A special thank you to Laura Stroligo and Regina Muscatelli for all the work they do behind the scenes with the lectors and servers. We are truly blessed here at St. Kevin, and our celebration of Easter gives us a perfect opportunity to rejoice and give thanks! Next Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. We will have a holy hour beginning at 3:00 PM with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in song, and benediction will take place at 4:00 PM. Seminarians from Cathedral Seminary Residence will join us on that day. All parishioners and friends are welcome to the celebration on Divine Mercy Sunday spread the word! Around the church you will find posters and prayer cards for the canonization of Msgr. Bernard Quinn, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn who worked tirelessly for the African American community until his death in 1940. Please feel free to share the prayer cards and use them yourself to promote this worthy cause. Thank you to all who are generously pledging to the Generations of Faith campaign! This important initiative in our diocese will support our senior priests, promote youth ministry, and help us to renew our church building in time for our 90 th anniversary in 2016. Please see the bulletin and the parish website for more information. Help us to reach and surpass our goal! Sincerely yours in Christ, Reverend John J. Save our Catholic Schools: Please call Governor Andrew Cuomo at 518-474-8390 and tell him to ensure that the Education Investment Tax Credit is included in this year s New York State Budget. Please call today...the future of Catholic schools may depend on it. For the past several months, St. Kevin and the Diocese of Brooklyn have been engaging in an unprecedented project that addresses the great potential of our region and touches the lives of Catholic families within our communities today and into the future. This historic initiative, called GENERATIONS OF FAITH, was taken on after much prayer and consultation, to address the needs of our parish and the Diocese. GENERATIONS OF FAITH seeks to raise a minimum of $80 million to expand and enhance programs and ministries throughout the Diocese and assist us with our local needs at St. Kevin. The campaign priorities are to: 1. Strengthen the Heart of our Diocese by investing 50% of the total dollars raised, or $40,000,000, back into local parish communities for their own identified projects. 2. Fulfill Our Promise to Those Who Have Faithfully Served by augmenting the current Saint John Vianney and Good Shepherd Funds, by directing $30,000,000 to care for Senior and Infirmed Priests. 3. Foster the Formation of the Future Generation of Catholics through the Catholic Foundation s Youth Evangelization Program. The program s goal is to serve every parish throughout the Diocese with a qualified and trained youth by 2020. How Will Our Parish Benefit? Minimum goal at St. Kevin: $995,000. We will receive 50% of the funds raised up to this goal and 75% of funds raised over the target. If we exceed 125% of our goal, we will then receive 100% of all funds raised above this figure. Our share of the funds raised will be used to: Protect and enhance the stained glass windows Repoint and power wash the church exterior Integrate interior LED lighting Maintain and paint interior walls For questions, or to schedule an appointment to see Bishop Chappetto, please contact the Parish Office - (718) 357-8888 Remember this campaign is about equal sacrifice, not equal gifts! At this time, all St. Kevin parishioners should have received personalized materials regarding the Generations of Faith campaign either by mail or a campaign volunteer. If you have not yet received information about the campaign, or you are visiting St. Kevin and would like to learn more about the initiative, please provide your contact information below. ******************************************************************************************************* YES!
